My Limsa Lominsa Candle

The marine city-state of Limsa Lominsa the city where many journeys start in FFXIV, and where many friendships are first made in the game. Limsa's main aetheryte in the lower decks seems to always be the "chat room" of the game for better or for worse, or even for... awkward.

My character in particular tends to awkward up this space by showing off his abs with a strategically placed sun minion and a /beesknees dance between duties. :X

After putting some clothes on, and then taking them off again because this glam is da bomb dot com, as the kids say. (they probably don't.)  I took to the tomes, and google, to start research on how best to capture the pirate city in scent.

I wanted it to represent water, of course but also have a woody scent. I wanted the candle to have the immersive sensation of being on the dock, the scent of spices in cargo and somehow tie in pirates. I pondered this while role-playing as a pirate and ignoring a citizen in need. (as one does)

I felt inspired to incorporate leather and tobacco as notes to capture the grog swilling aspects of the pirate life.

For the essential oils I choose cedarwood to capture the woodiness of ships and docks. I wanted to pair it with spicy notes and something reminiscent of sweaty pirates, so I though Patchouli would bring in that more masculine energy (without the fisherman B.O..) and I wanted something reminiscent of cargo on a sea vessel. I found a great partner in Allspice oil. Allspice is sort of pepper that has historically been traded in central America and the Greater Antilles. It was perfect for bringing in a Caribbean cargo feel.  To further the pirate aesthetic some tobacco and clove to bring the rough and tumble energy of the chaotic pirate life.

When selecting a leather fragrance to add, I used the Bucaneer's Tricone for inspiration and thought of what that would smell like. After a couple tries, I was happy to find a realistic oil that really smelled like leather hide and it was perfect for smoothing out the spicy notes. I choose a deeper blue for the wax color to reflect the ocean vibes, and this candle has been a favorite among our FFXIV community since. ^^

(Brightness and warmth to represents the Fourth Umbral Moon (eighth month/August) governed by Rhalgr The Destroyer God of Lightning. Persimmon is a fruit found in Gyr Abania along with Persimmon Tannin found in Rhalgr's Reach. Persimmon is also known as a "fruit of the Gods" as it is often grown around temples in Japan, a nod to the Temple of the First. this scent has a very slight spice to it underneath, think sangria, but the top notes are mainly Persimmon/Orange- a slight touch of bamboo and clove elevate the scent to be a lot more upscale than your typical citrus scents and is unisex in nature. The feelings evoked are optimism strength, and celebration.)
