i love love love that it was nathan, not harold, who came up with the idea of the back door to the machine, who wanted to save the people deemed not important, who we get to see have a bunch of guilt over what they did and who started saving people first. so often when the genius inventor has a partner they turn out to be a backstabber or someone who refuses to do the right thing while the inventor wants to. i was absolutely gutted when he was killed.
#for someone who only exists in flashbacks i'm having so many nathan feels#like he and harold have such a deep friendship and it was so nice to not have that ripped away by some dumb betrayal#especially since they introduce him as someone who's “just the face of the organization” and collects the awards and whatnot#while harold works by himself#and then as everything unfolds he's the one who thinks it's wrong that the machine is noticing and predicting other people in danger#and they're not doing anything about. fighting harold with it until he just builds the back door himself without telling him#the fact that he and harold were so. so. so close and losing nathan made harold dedicate his life to saving whoever he could#and he doesn't care if he dies doing it. he's already made contingencies in case he does so that someone can keep saving people#i love having my expectations subverted. i was fully prepared for nathan to turn out to be some kind of surprise bad guy but no#and their hub is literally where nathan had set up shop to save people!#oh god i'm crying again#person of interest#harold finch#nathan ingram#michael emerson#brett cullen
