Ive been helping mum with trip planning, and yesterday, her friend said something that got me thinking
she'd gone to a bday party where there was an autistic boy and she commented on what a mess he made.
and i kept thinking oh poor boy it sounds like he's not having his needs met.
she said the kid's parents take him to a lot of drs, but tbh, at least in my experience theyre not even that helpful.
cause usually the goal is for the kid to behave as nt or as close as possible.
like if the kid is non verbal they want him to talk.
when there are so many communication options
he could learn to sign. hell he could just shake his head yes and no. could learn to write, or to use buttons or morse code.
i dont have all the details of this case but sadly usually they often refuse accommodations and as a result they get a kid with a lot of tantrums and meltdowns, usually cause there is little to no communication and the needs arent being met.
if you let people communicate in whatever way is more comfortable a lot of that could be avoided.
so autistic people get labelled as dificult. and it can be so fuxking hard to get accommodations.
