Im gonna sound really incoherent beacuase I had this idea last night right before falling asleep and I'm writing this at six in the morning after just waking up but.

Pre forsaken azuretime + Spawn cult stuff based VERY loosely on the cat cult web comic Jumalanpelko (Go read it it's So Good. And here on Tumblr too)

So they were doomed from the beginning. Like from the second they met. The Spawn demands sacrifices, and the higher priests of the cult can do nothing but give them. It needs two souls, with one stab. One to swallow whole, one to infect (elevate, in the cultists eyes, this is the 'second life', truly but an infection).

But how do you remove two people's souls while only killing one? You bond them real close then make one kill the other, of course. So the cult has indeed been making 'bonded pairs' over the years, just to always have a duo to readily feed to the Spawn. There's been a bit of everything over in different duos, platonic, romantic, hell, some even were outright siblings, the only requirement is that they bond so closely they can be considered 'to share a soul'.

That was the case with Azure and Two Time! Well... Kinda. They just naturally got really close, and since the actual couple the priests chose wasn't advancing quite fast enough, and the It was growing restless, they just changed their focus to our favorite little freaks.

And we all know what happened don't we. Yeah? Yeah.

Long story short, the Spawn is not a God, but some eldritch parasite that likes slurping up souls, and Azuretime was doomed from the start and they had NO idea!

Azuretime gets more tragic the more Spawn cult hcs I read. Yoinking this headcanon.

THIS IS SO GOOD TBH LIKE?? do you think azure knew? that from the moment he realized how close they were, that he knew that one of them would have to be sacrificed? do you think, deep beneath the want to keep two time close no matter what the spawn says, that he too wanted that second life for himself? if so, how much of that past longing was amplified in the present due to the spectre? is he truly killing two time because he hates them, or is he doing it for the sake of getting that "second life" for his own?
