Anyway of course twas the right thing to do, I mean I would feel terrible if I knowingly got someone sick, it as just that this really feels like the piss icing on top of the shake cake that has been my life lately. And I know in the grand schema of things I'll be fine, and I'm actually incredibly privileged and lucky, but that doesn't mean I'm always happy, that I'm not entitled to feel myself sometimes.
This has just been a really tough year. Really at the beginning of the year I wasn't loving my work. I was working at Gopuff and really not very happy there, it was a lot of chaos and I was very slow and getting my work done, which is a reoccurring theme for this year. Fortunately I was pulled off and got to take the lead on my very first project. I could have done better at this project, but there were a lot of unusual circumstances. For one I didn't have a lot of insights into all the APIs I would have to work on, and many of them turned out to be quite bad to work with. I also had a brand new developer to mentor, so that slowed ous down quite a bit as well. also I had I PM that wasn't great at his job, so needless to say, I had a lot on my plate.
Then my mom called and said she had breast cancer. That was really scary and stressful.She got a double mastectomy and is actually doing quite well, but it was pretty taxing to say the least. I went down there for over a week and had lots of stressed out conversations, r ut that might have been the extent of w y time commitment. The emoutional commitment was A lot higher I suppose. Also around that same time I found out that the t ompany I work for is shutting down. Only the annoucement was't just that simphnz. The announcement was really "hey we're going to be firing everyone at the comany in some form at some point in the next few months." From there It was a pretty anxiety inducing hodge-podge of mixed messages and confusing phone calls, so I really never knew what was happening and when exactly I was losing my job. This was super stressful. Also having to interview and start talking to prep for interviews and practice technical questions was super stressful. My actual project I was working on was still super stressful and requiring a lot of work at that point too, so I felt like every part of my life was full of stress and drama.
Anyway It was really tough but I like to think I pulled everything off. I maneged to get 3 new job offers all around the same time and I took the one that I was most excited about and the one I genuinely thought was going to be the best fit and what I was most excited about.
But I was wrong. This company turned out to be a total disaster and I was never happy there. More stress.
Also my mom was diagnosed with cancer a second time. More stress.
Then I got fired. More stress.
And now it's cold and winter and I don't have a job and it's the freaking holidays and now on top of all of that fucking bullshit I'm goddamned sick with a goddman cold? I mean, thank god it wasn't anything more serious, but At the same time it's just like "anything fucking else? what else can I expect" Jesus Christ I can't wait to say goodbey to this abouslutely shitberg of an awful day.
I'm not going to get into it now, but a big part of stress related to all the job stuff is the fact that I have come to realize that I've really wrapped a huge part of my identity and my self-esteem in the fact hat I thoughst I was good at my job. And intelletually I know that I still am, but it might be fair to say that my gut isn at as sure anymore.
and i don't know, it as just alot. I just want . I don't know what I fucking want anymore. I want to get a good fucking night's sleep and I want to stop feeling so goddamned stressed all of the time and I wish that I had a job I love again.
