7 Days Desert Tour from Casablanca: The Best Holiday in Morocco

I embarked on a 7 days tour from Casablanca, anticipating an adventure that would immerse me in Moroccan culture, history, and natural beauty. This wasn't just any trip; it was a carefully curated journey that promised to be unforgettable.

Day 1: Casablanca – Meknes – Volubilis – Fes

The tour began as I was greeted at the airport and whisked away to explore Casablanca. Visiting the majestic Hassan II Mosque set the tone for the day. After a delightful lunch, we drove to Meknes, a former imperial city, before marveling at the ancient ruins of Volubilis. By evening, we arrived in Fes, where I spent the night in a charming riad.

Day 2: Exploring Fes – Guided Tour of the City

Day two was dedicated to uncovering the secrets of Fes. Walking through the medina, I felt transported back in time. The guided tour took me to the Mosque of the Andalusians, the famous tanneries, and the Medersas, showcasing the city's rich Arab-Muslim heritage. Another night in Fes allowed me to soak in its vibrant atmosphere.

Day 3: Fes – Ifrane – Midelt – Erfoud – Rissani – Merzouga

We set off early, heading towards Ifrane, often dubbed "the Switzerland of Morocco." The journey continued through the picturesque Ziz Valley, leading us to Erfoud, renowned for its fossils. By evening, we reached Merzouga, where a cozy desert hotel awaited us.

Day 4: Explore Merzouga

The desert's allure was undeniable. I explored Merzouga, visiting Khamia village and enjoying lunch with nomads. As the sun set, I embarked on a camel ride across the dunes, eventually arriving at a desert camp. That night, under a star-studded sky, we enjoyed a traditional Berber dinner by the campfire.

Day 5: Merzouga – Todra Gorges – Dades Gorges

The day's adventure began with a breathtaking sunrise in the desert. After returning to the village, we journeyed to the stunning Todra Gorges. The towering cliffs and serene valley were perfect for a hike. Post-lunch, we traveled to Dades Valley, famous for its rock formations known as "monkey toes."

Day 6: Dades Gorges – Ouarzazate – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

Our desert tour from Casablanca took us through the Valley of Roses to Ouarzazate, where we visited the famous Ait Ben Haddou kasbah. Crossing the High Atlas mountains via Tizi n’Tichka Pass was an adventure in itself. By evening, we arrived in Marrakech, ready for the next day's explorations.

Day 7: Marrakech City Tour – Casablanca

The final day included a guided tour of Marrakech. From the lively Jemaa el Fna square to the serene Majorelle Gardens, the city's charm was irresistible. We also visited the Koutoubia Mosque and the modern district of Gueliz. In the afternoon, we returned to Casablanca, concluding the tour from Casablanca.

Marrakech, un jeu de questions – réponses

MOHAMMED BAKRIM // Il y a quelques temps déjà des amis du site Made in Marrakech m’avait fait subir un « interrogatoire » autour de mes rapports à la ville ocre. Aujourd’hui celle-ci sort doucement et sûrement du traumatisme post - 8 septembre en sauvegardant ce qui fait son âme. Je propose ici de larges extraits de cette interview express dont le temps n’a cessé de confirmer les impressions et les sentiments que j’ai à l’égard de la ville emblème du Maroc. - Vous venez assez souvent à Marrakech ... Durant une bonne partie de mon enfance et de ma jeunesse, Marrakech était une énigme réduite à une étape sur ma route vers le village de mes origines au cœur du Souss. Une escale avant d'affronter le Haut Atlas. Marrakech était pour moi des images nocturnes avec un ciel merveilleux ou encore un souvenir de chaleur torride à la place Jamaâ El Fna. Une fascination qui a nourri mon imaginaire. Et puis grâce au cinéma (le FIFM, l’ESAV…) je suis devenu pratiquement un Marrakchi puisqu'il m'arrive d'y venir assez souvent. - Que représente Marrakech pour vous ? Une certaine sérénité ; un rapport particulier au temps et à l'espace donc un mode de vie original. - Quelle est la place de l'art dans la ville rouge ? L'art est une composante ontologique de la ville ocre ; elle est elle-même une œuvre d'art. - Quels sont vos endroits favoris à Marrakech ? J'aime Jamaâ El Fna la nuit ; la médina tôt le matin redécouverte chaque fois avec émotion avec un ami qui en connaît tous les symboles, Youssef Ait hammou ; Gueliz vers la fin de l’après-midi et au-delà de minuit quelques endroits de Marrakech by night où il y a de la bonne musique. - Ce que vous aimez le plus à Marrakech ? Le ciel bleu tôt le matin au mois d'avril ; une tolérance innée chez sa population. - Et ce que vous aimez le moins ?  Les embouteillages, le bruit infernal des klaxons… je trouve que cela ne sied pas à une ville qui invite à la contemplation et la marche méditative. - Comment vous imaginez Marrakech dans 10 ans ? Une métropole moderne sous le regard vigilant du Haut Atlas. -  Avez-vous une anecdote à nous raconter ?  Une fois j'ai été invité par l'Institut Français de la ville pour un débat sur le cinéma, et la nuit on était invité au Riad Denise Mason qui est aussi une maison d'hôte. Il s'est trouvé alors que j'ai été le seul à y passer la nuit alors que pendant le dîner on n’avait pas arrêté de dire que le Riad était hanté et de me raconter des histoires sur le retour de la défunte qui revenait visiter les lieux. Du coup toute la nuit je n'ai pas fermé l’œil en attendant l’apparition d’un moment à l’autre de Denise Masson !!! -  Un dernier Mot ? L'emblème gastronomique de Marrakech est la fameuse Tanjia dont le degré de réussite dépend du savant dosage entre ses différents ingrédients. Il me semble que le devenir de la ville impériale dépend aussi du dosage intelligent entre les différentes tendances qui la traversent.
