So Many Plans...
I really want to switch the beetles off of sand and into a small bioactive to try to get them to breed. It’s a bit of a pet project of mine since I’m interested in being able to offer captive bred blue death feigning beetles in the future. Right now from what I understand they are all wild caught and no one has been successful in breeding them, though I have seen some anecdotes on forums about people getting larvae. However, since there’s never any photographic proof I’m inclined to believe that they're tall tales.
Anyways, they aren't my only plans. I still want to put Aries in a larger bioactive when I have the funds (the nice front opening setups are expensive, but I am a short person so those would be best for me), but at the moment that probably isn't going to happen soon (Maybe the beetles could live with him since they are both desert species and function as cuc as well? idk).
I want to try again with the Haldeman’s shield back katydids as well. I had to stop that project because of the need to move and living in a dorm for a year, but I was able to successfully breed them and hatch out the nymphs. The problem was that while I was able to successfully keep the adults, the nymphs never fared as well or grew as fast as the ones I saw in the wild, so there was probably some mistake on my part that I’ll have to rectify. Those are another project that will have to wait though since I think I’ll have to try breeding grasshoppers and crickets to feed them.
The hissers are going to need a better arrangement as well. The temporary setup I have at the moment works... but it’s not the best. They are currently sitting next to the dubia’s heat tape for warmth but I worry that in such a small bin that they might get too hot. I think they are probably the most urgent project, and maybe I’ll work on getting them something better tonight.
