it's insane how postcolonialism is everywhere once you start noticing it, it's in any piece of media i touch lately, in so many experiences i have,
#i'm reading a novel atm about an algerian-french linguist studying irish gaelic during the troubles...#even two different colonial powers at play there#i'm watching lupin which is about a senegalese-french man#i can't forget the laugh of the guy who taught us some arabic and berber in the hotel in morocco when we asked him places he'd like to go#like he was a student like us working a summer job in the hotel and we had all had a hard time chosing one place to name#but he laughed like it was obvious and immediately said spain#half the tourists in the hotel were spanish there's ferries from morocco to spain#but this law student who'd even studied in the north had never been#the assignment i jst handed in was about food crops and the history of slavery in the set up of the food crop industry during colonial rule#like once you think about it... the whole construct of colonial power and influence irreversably changed the course of so many histories#like the world is absolutely only the way it is because colonialism happened. but we barely learned anything about it in history in school#to unravel all the situations and lives where it plays a role is impossible but only through trying do you get a feel for how present it is#idk this is all very abstract i'm sorry if i'm not telling you anything interesting but i could write essays and papers about this#i get why it's a whole research field i really do#*t
