one of the ways in which I feel most strongly that phandom is a bit of a pastiche of an actual queer space is the way in which people discuss non-monogamy around here
#not trying to start anything i just often feel like this is not really a queer space#it feels like shadows on the cave wall compared to my experiences being active in an actual irl queer community#volunteering at a support space for queer youth etc#i go to my local gay bar or queer youth place and there's several poly folks there on a given night#and i feel like a lot of you have never talked to a poly person irl lmao just based on how a lot of you discuss polyamory and monogamy#as concepts#idk food for thought i guess#another thing is that with any online space there's more of a hyperfocus on labels and descriptors#because you're not actually interacting with entire people. only little fragments of them through their posts#and there's the fact that the entire thing is a popularity contest at the end of the day#i can't rly explain it there is something chronically online about the way that monogamy is discussed on here#plus the fact that the entire internet hates poly folks for some reason. idk it's interesting to me#and I'm not speaking on dnp when i say this lol realistically they're not open. it just wouldn't make sense for a bunch of reasons#but I'm just saying this almost romanticization of the concept of monogamy is interesting to me#also just to make sure I'm not accidentally pissing on the poor obviously being gay doesn't mean you have to be poly#most gay people aren't and plenty of straight people are#but it is more common among queer people particularly queer men. and it's more normalized in queer spaces generally#maybe it's an age thing as well i must remember a lot of you are too young to drink in the US#anyway I'm muting that breeding post lmao because why are people doing jealous Dan on my own damn post 😭 please release me
