#i really love(d) Washington D.C.#i mean i went Spring 2009 so the vibes are definitely different now#but it was a helluva time#i got separated from my school group and was lost at the Vietnam War Memorial#the history of the design and Maya Lin is really worth digging into or revisiting if you covered it in the 8th grade#but it's not a memorial you can really get lost at - it's a v-shaped wall#like the FDR Memorial would have made more sense as a -getting lost- location#idk they put the whole 8th grade class on a bus from Chicago to D.C. and as a current 8th grade teacher - absolutely no way#i flew with two cats to Germany and it was THE WORST#but i'd do it before i'd ride a bus for HOURS with my current students#i wouldn't be able to sleep#i'd be swiveling and monitoring and completely unable to relax
