guess who's finally caught up on the specials!
first, i don't have a ton to say about legend of the sea devils...i suppose i am in the underwhelmed camp on this one. it really felt like there were some editing issues because the performances were on point as usual? i am continually impressed by mandip and jodie and the doctor understanding yaz but having to let her down was handled so well and interestingly? these two continue to be the highlight.
onto the power of the doctor!! i have a lot to say so here we gooo
as soon as the word "seismologist" was uttered i knew there was going to be some doctor who geology fuckery
honestly though not as bad as it could have been
nothing compares to kill the moon never forget never forgive
most of my feelings revolve around jodie and sacha and how electric those two continue to be on screen
the slow weaving of the master's web around the doctor actually worked and built suspense
also all the master does is come up with overly complicated plots so the overworked busyness of it didn't bother me
shout out to everyone's favorite quarry in wales
(just kidding i assume there are multiple quarries in wales that they film in)
ACE! TEGAN! KATE!! honestly i just love seeing their faces and 13's reaction to her past and knowing she didn't really do right by them is worth the price of admission
i really loved that they each got their own moments with their own doctor!
i loved seeing all the classic doctors too just anything that solidifies 13 as part of that legacy makes me emotional
i get not wanting doctor who to be entirely callbacks and self referential, but it has so much history that what's the point if it doesn't get to occasionally
and the companion group therapy!! (i see you there ian!!)
okay back to the story
13 just let yaz have a gun...she ain't messing around with the master
i do feel like there was still a darkness in 13 that was only glimpsed but never properly explored? like what if the gun had been the first step to something more drastic this episode? 13 went to some great places this season but i still think there was room to dig a little deeper into how powerful and terrifying the doctor can be
but then again i'm so glad she got to end as she was, optimistic and hopeful and not mired in a tragedy of her own making which probably would have hurt me more
to me it fits with where jodie wants her doctor to sit
like hers was a very aspirational and communicable doctor (relatively so and not without her faults) so it made sense that she got to properly express her feelings to yaz and give and request space to say goodbye
okay i'm still getting ahead of myself
the dancing to rasputin is the whole reason i watch this dumb show
i do think there was a missed opportunity for sacha and jodie to play each other
the path they chose worked and sacha and mandip killed it but also there was the opportunity for a proper body swap
they had them in the separate boxes and everything and they just sailed right by
but it did mean that yaz got to soar!!! literally the master puts himself into this situation thinking he'll be the replacement doctor, but yaz gets to be the doctor! which is really want we've been working towards for a while!!
i mean i've thought for a while yaz could take on the master and win so validating to watch that
ngl seeing graham again got me emotional
anytime jo martin's doctor appears it makes my day
the master being the one to take the doctor out and yaz carrying her back into the tardis was just chef's kiss
and is 100% in line with dhawan!master's mutually assured destruction attitude
her goodbye with yaz made me cry
like full on bawling on the sofa
i don't want them to have to say goodbye
i don't want to have to say goodbye to them
literally where is yaz's alternate universe 13
speaking of
whoever suggested putting "and introducing david tennant as the doctor" in the end credits deserves a raise
but also more on that later what on god's green earth are you going to do with that god tennant and tate are lucky i love them

Tag Game - First 10 Lines
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and  tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, don’t be shy and  share anyway.
hi @picnokinesis and thanks for the tag! let's pretend it hasn't been an entire month since you tagged me, and that i didn't spend a whole 15 minutes trying to remember my password to this account before giving up and resetting it. sounds good? sounds good.
i don't exactly have 10 doctor who fics, i don't think? we'll see how far we get with the wips floating around my onenote, and if it's not 10, i'll pad it with other fics -- it'll be a guess the fandom sort of thing, fun for the whole family (although, if you do guess the fandom from one line, i'll be genuinely impressed). starting with the completed ones:
you're the one that i need, i'm the one that you loathe ; nebulously mid s12 thoschei one-shot
“I think it should be me who kills you.”
2. it makes me who i am (i burned it all but i'm doing fine) ; canon divergence where 13 thinks to dive into the matrix mid s12 and sort of uh. breaks her own mind, it's fine, she's alright. thoschei one-shot.
She stands alone, and watches the flames dance.
3. on the catfish and its adaptive capacity in adverse temporal conditions ; you guessed it, mid s12 thoschei one-shot. 13 pays a visit to O for ScienceTM. it doesn't go great.
This is arguably not the most brilliant plan the Doctor’s ever come up with.
and now for the wips. titles are temporary and, were i to finish any of these, would probably change 3-6 times before actually being posted
4. i've loved you for a hundred years (certainly fucking feels like it) ; human au spydoc one-shot that got away from me a bit and that i never ended up finishing.
There's a star in his kitchen.
5. the enemy of my enemy, and other cautionary tales ; i don't even know what this was going to be, but it was going to involve a team-up with Jack and the Master, and some shenanigans. maybe even some hijinks? hard to say.
"So," Jack says, wondering why the hell he's still standing here, "explain to me again why I should care?"
6. driving lessons ; a tentatively thasmin one-shot set between s12 and flux, exploring how yaz learnt to pilot the tardis as well as she has, aka 13 teaches her something instead of apologizing every time she behaves like a dick. might still finish this one, actually
"Want me to show you how to reset the chronion collector brackets?"
7. help is on the way ; a jack/13 one-shot set after once, upon time, because how could i not bring jack into the aftermath of whatever the hell happened in that episode
She holds it together for a remarkably long time, all things considered.
8. another night and i'll see you (another night and i'll be you) ; power of the doctor one-shot, exploring whatever the fuck happened with that doctor/master combination. got distracted from it, but honestly would like to go back to it at some point because seriously, the implications
He— she— they— are bleeding.
the other doctor who wips are not at a stage where they have opening lines, so bonus round!
9. a day in the life, and other team building exercises ; okay, this one's an easy fandom guess, but it's not about to be posted any time soon, so shouldn't give me away
"Warden," Camilla says, with all the neutrality only a lifetime can teach, "is that a knife?"
10. quick study ; teaching one's teammate to drive when one's teammate also happens to be an alien with a bit of a kleptomaniac streak
"This just seems so unnecessarily complicated."
and that's 10! this was very fun, thank you again for the tag! I don't really have many mutuals on this account, but if you see this and are interested, consider yourself tagged! i love reading these tag games

Finally got round to watching the Doctor Who episode from last night. Here's what I thought. It's going to be a very disjointed review because I'm typing it out with no real order other than what comes out of my head first. So apologies for that.
So basically, in short, didn't hate it, thought it was pretty good. Also finally starting to like Yaz a bit more. Not to say I didn't like her before, cos I did, but in series 11 and 12 there was just something that didn't click with me as it did with Ryan and Graham. Still, glad to see her allowed to shine a little more.
Some parts did seem a little weird in terms of pacing. Like when the alien (forgot his name and how to spell it - I'll remember it later), knocked down Dan's door. Didn't feel impactful at all, but that's not the script per se, that seems more like a directing and editing issue to me.
I do like Dan, and I'm looking forward to seeing how he fairs the rest of this series.
I love how the Doctor is looking into the Division and wants answers. I wish she wasn't keeping things from Yaz, though. I get why, but like Yaz said, they're friends. The Doctor would probably find it a lot less lonely if she actually opened up to people occasionally. But I suppose you can understand why she doesn't. She's been hurt too many times to allow herself to fully open up.
The Flux thing seems interesting. Reminded me of the reality bomb plot from the end of series 4. I doubt they are, but I wonder if they may be connected?
Found the conversation between the two Sontarans a little weird. Just didn't feel that natural when the one on the ship was commenting on the others appearance...just felt unneeded. Not a huge fan of the Sontarans. I know they're a classic, but I just don't vibe with them
Who the fuck is Claire? And how does she know the Doctor and Yaz? I get time travel (duh), but I'm interested in her story and how she fits into everything. Also the Weeping Angel. She knew that she couldn't take her eyes off it, so she's encountered (or at least read or been told about) them.
The bit and the end with Dianne (?) and the house...um what?
The creepy crystal face aliens...they seem interesting. There's an apparent history there between them and the Doctor, looking forward to seeing what that is. I bet it all leads back to the Divison and the Doctor's life before they wiped her memory.
Oh! The TARDIS scenes. The moving of doors, what's up with that? It must be connected with the Flux, but I feel that might get added to and explained more (I hope). Liked seeing the vortex power again. Been a while since we've seen that. She didn't say it came directly from the heart of the TARDIS, but I'm assuming she smashed the heart open? Seems a little dangerous to have it so easily accessible given what it can do. But I suppose you would have to know it was there
Overall, a fairly decent episode. Hell of a lot going on and a lot to process. Few pacing issues and bits that just felt a little off to be, but good overall. Looking forward to seeing how the series pans out over the next five episodes.
