returning to leave a couple of mixed reviews on French art from past weeks

“Water Lilies”, Céline Sciamma's debut movie from 2007, really good. I think Sciamma is great at offering a glimpse on the world of (queer) teenagers (and even younger kids) without it ever feeling too judgmental or saccharine, and her first movie is proof of that. Then again maybe I'm just biased because I'm a basic ass lesbian and this movie is a such a clear mirror on events from my teenage years that took me a long time to understand

“L'Envol”, Alcest's new single: boring ass song based on vibes and nothing else, which is not nearly enough for eight (!!) minutes. I can't live on atmosphere alone and I know Neige can write cool riffs, I wish he remembered too. Not optimistic about a new album if this is representative of the contents
