the truest test of characterization is if you're able to successfully write a character as having different music taste than your own
#joking mostly lol but this really is fascinatingly prevalent#it's one of the weirdest little quirks about reading a lot of fanfiction to me#so so so So many times ive been reading a fic and the character's taste in music will feel very strongly colored by the author's#vs like. really considering what interests and likes/dislikes truly gel with the character's personality and history as presented in canon#it breaks immersion but in such an interesting and funny and idiosyncratic way that i can't really get mad at it#i think the most memorable example i can think of is when somebody wrote elena from vampire diaries as being really into dr. dog
