Given that goth culture in Japan didn't emerge until the late 90's as a pivotal facet of Harajuku culture and that YGO itself takes place during the 90's (the manga timeline spanning from 1995/1996 - 1999) it is a very real possibility that Yugi himself was a huge figure in goth subculture and may even have the same iconic status as Elvira and the Addams'

Basically please imagine a bunch of baby goths absolutely idolising him growing up because he always appears in tournaments wearing all those belts and thick eyeliner and studded boots and chockers etc and he's just completely oblivious to the fact that he's The King of Goth™️

#yugioh #yugi mutou #it's a very fun headcanon for me I have many thoughts about yugi's goth style and how it develops over time #for instance: if I could do art well I would show my own hc progression of his gothness #during the course of the series and how he starts doing an eye of horus sometime after pegasus' island #starts taking atem's advice on wearing more jewellery #definitely gets himself some fingerless fishnet gloves and a long leather skirt with multiple chains hanging off it #and the chains are all decorate with like mummies and coffins and bats and things #he has an ankh earring he wore for atem but keeps post-canon as a reminder of him #I'll stop now before these tags get out of hand
