anyways. so tsukasa has bad memory and this is canon. however, consider: toya having a good memory. a great one, even.

Tsukasa lightheartedly complains about his memory issues to his friends, but it does bother him more than he lets on. He often finds himself envious of Toya's practically photographic memory, how Toya can listen to a song once and be able to nail the tune almost perfectly most of the time, how Toya doesn't seem to have to study, how Toya can recall things that happened years ago with significant clarity. He hates feeling jealous of someone who he considers basically a younger brother, but often he can't help it.

Meanwhile, Toya wishes he could forget. Toya wishes he was like Tsukasa, how Tsukasa can get a bad grade on a test and still be able to smile and laugh later on that same day, because he's already forgotten about it. How Tsukasa could hit a wrong key when they were younger and forget all about it by the time the performance was over. But what Toya is most envious of is how Tsukasa doesn't seem to remember anything that upset him as a child. Of course, Tsukasa remembers Saki being in the hospital, but he doesn't remember any of the specifics from when they were kids. He doesn't care to, either, since "she's out now, so why dwell on the past?"

Toya feels like all he does is dwell on the past. He wishes he could forget as easily as that, leave his past where it belongs and live in the moment like Tsukasa does. Toya remembers the bad things that happened to him with much stronger clarity than the good things that happened to him, so much so that just thinking about those memories is almost like reliving them.

One day, Tsukasa tells Toya how he's always thought Toya's memory is really cool, and how he wishes his memory was that good. Toya accepts the compliment, but he thinks about that by himself for several weeks. He can't even fathom why Tsukasa would want that when Tsukasa obviously has it so much better than him.
