newwwww chapter of our hearts know deeper seasons than our memories!
Nancy finds herself being more social once summer hits. Her apartment gets stuffy, and the longer days make her want to stay out, to see people, to feel a little bit like she’s living again, exploring the world rather than just trudging through it on her way from place to place. She’s been avoiding most of the people who used to make up her social life. The lunch meetings and formal dinners are all the same, but as soon as there’s anything more intense than a wine menu, she leaves. Because as restless as she is, she can’t bring herself to go out for anything that isn’t strictly work. She starts a project with Heather Holloway—just a few readings to see how they get along—and she feels guilty when Heather asks if she wants to hang out one night. She tells Nancy she hasn’t been dancing since she started dating Billy Hargrove, and now, fresh out of that trainwreck of a relationship, she just wants a night where she can feel free again. She’s sweet, and Nancy doesn’t think she’s out to get trashed tonight, but she doesn’t think of freedom when she thinks of dancing. Or maybe the problem is that she thinks about freedom a little too much. She thinks about pressing close to Robin, holding her in her arms, looking up at her and wishing desperately that Robin would kiss her. Dancing with Robin was a mistake, clearly. Dancing without her doesn’t sound much better, though.
