Bittersweet Chocolate:
 Jin had his arm around your shoulders as you watched the movie.  Warmth tingled along your back and spine as you smelled his cologne. Dang it, he made it hard to concentrate…
 Jin was your best friend…  You’d known each other for years; you’d even set each other up on dates…  In fact, the last serious relationship you had with a guy had been because of Kim SeokJin.  You had dated Kim NamJoon for over a year and a half before you’d eventually gone your separate ways, but the relationship had been a good one overall…  Now, a year had gone by and there’d been no one else.  You were starting to… you could feel yourself… You let out a huge sigh and sank deeper into the couch, slightly away from Jin.
 “What’s up?” he whispered, not looking at you as he reached for the popcorn in your lap.  You handed it over.
 “Nothing… just stress…” you said softly.  Stress… that was an understatement.  You looked up at Jin’s profile and watched him chewing the popcorn… the muscles in his jaw working before swallowing and making his adam’s apple bob along his throat.  You couldn’t believe the state of hell you were living in.
 Your worst nightmare had happened.  You’d fallen for your best friend.
You blinked away sudden tears, not letting them fall, and focused on the movie again.   Even though Jin was both of your friends, he’d been a point of contention with NamJoon.  Not the reason you’d broken up, but there was always a side of NamJoon that resented the fact that he was equal with Jin in your life.  You always told him that he meant more to you than Jin, which was a lie and you knew it… He’d known it too.  But it wasn’t that big of a deal, because Jin was a friend.  You’d never seen him as anything more than a friend, and he’d never seen you as more either.  It was a great platonic relationship.
 You weren’t entirely sure when it had started to happen… Your breakup with NamJoon had been hard, really hard… though you knew it was headed there a couple months before it actually happened.  And it was mutual… it really was.  But that didn’t mean you weren’t hurting.  Jin had been there for you like never before.  He’d come over three to four times a week, he’d call and text almost constantly, he’d cook you meals and bring them over so you wouldn’t have to think about it…  It all annoyed you at first, but it started becoming normal.  He’d even stay the night, just laying in bed and holding you, helping you sleep.  Nothing else ever happened… You didn’t want anything else to happen…
 ...at first.
 When you began noticing yourself noticing him that way, it had been about four months after your breakup with Joon.  You’d chocked it up to needing a rebound; your emotions weren’t clear because you were simply trying to transfer them to the nearest available guy.  And because he was sweet to you, because he was attentive and caring and warm… and freaking gorgeous… you let it go as that.  It was a crush that would eventually wear off because it was just superficial.
 You told yourself that until about two months ago, when you went out on a date with someone else… that Jin had set you up with.
 The way your heart had sunk when he’d suggested it, how tears had pricked your eyes when he handed you the guy’s number with a smile on his face.  The smile had destroyed you.  For 10 months it had been just the two of you.  Sure you had other friends… but you rarely saw them.  Not like you saw Jin.  He was even keeping stuff at your place… but…
 Two months of hell… that’s what you were dealing with.  Two months of watching, feeling Jin pulling away from you.  He was obviously done with just hanging out with you, and you couldn’t blame him.  You looked up at him again and he was looking at you, his brows furrowed.
 “Are you sure you’re ok?” he brought his hand up to cup your cheek, then your forehead.  “You’re not sick are you.
 “I’m fine!” You pulled away from him, turning your head.  He leaned towards you… you leaned further back… and the bowl of popcorn started to slip.  You both reached for it but it fell, completely covering the floor in popcorn.  You didn’t have much time to think about that though, because Jin had caught you and kept you from slipping.  His arm around your waist, hand just under your breast as he gripped tightly, he looked into your face from centimeters away.  You swallowed hard and tried to find your feet…. There they were… Planting them on the ground, you pulled away from him and stood up.
 “Y/N, seriously… what’s with you?” he asked looking up at you from the couch.  “You’re like, insanely tense.”  You almost shook as you bent down and started picking up popcorn, but Jin’s hand on your shoulder stopped you.  You shook your head.
 “It’s… nothing really… I’m a bit stressed from work… and I haven’t been sleeping well…”  Your mind searched frantically for excuses, anything that would sound vague yet plausible.  Jin squeezed your shoulder then bent down and started helping you pick up the spilled popcorn.
 “Need me to come over tonight?  I can stay with you if that’ll help you sleep better,”  His fingers brushed yours while picking up the buttery kernels and you struggled to stop your hands from shaking.
 “No, that’s alright…” you said, trying to control your voice.  “You have a date tonight.”
 “True…” he said, “but I can come over after.  Seriously, you seem to sleep just fine when I’m here.”  You did… that was the problem.  And the fact that he knew you did was a whole other problem.
 “No… go on your date.  Don’t worry about me…” you stopped as Jin put his hand on your head.
“I always worry about you, you know that!”  He ruffled your hair and laughed, making you have to force a laugh as well.
 “You really don’t have to,” you said.  “And I’ll be fine!  Enjoy your date.  You need to go soon, anyway…”  You looked over at the clock and saw it was 6:30pm.  “You’re meeting her at 7, right?”
 “Yeah,” he said, picking up the last of the popcorn and putting it in the bowl as he sat back on his heels.  “I should probably head out…”  He hesitated for a moment before shaking his head and standing.  He held a hand down to you to help you up, and you took it.
 “What wonders shall you shower upon your unknowing date this time?” you asked, not really wanting to know… But you were pretty much expected to ask.
 “There’s a new place that just opened… only serves chocolate, or things made with chocolate… ”  You groaned and he put an arm around you.
 “A chocolate date… seriously?  What star did she fall from to receive such attention?” You walked with him to the door.  He didn’t answer you.
 “Well, if it’s good I’ll take you tomorrow.  How’s that sound?”  You just nodded and crossed your arms.  Jin reached for his coat on the hook by the door and put it on.  Reaching in the pockets he took something out.
 “What’s that?” you asked, seeing the small silver bag.
 “You don’t think I’d go to a chocolate shop and not get you anything?”  He smiled and handed the bag over to you.  You didn’t really know what to say as your fingers brushed his as you accepted the bag.
 “Thanks!” you mustered up enough energy to seem enthused.  “I’ll enjoy them!”
 “Don’t eat them all at once though!” he said as he started out the door, “Those things were expensive! Spread them out!”
 “Sure! Whatever!” you said, pushing him out the door and laughing.
 “Y/N, I’m warning you…” he pointed a finger.
 “Have fun on your date!” you said, smiling, holding up a hand to wave.  He winked at you and started walking away.  Your smile faded pretty quickly, and you shut the door, looking down at the silver bag in your hand.  You opened it up and looked inside.  There were three large, individually wrapped candies twisted in shiny silver wrapping.  Three chocolates were expensive?  You wanted to try one immediately, but you put it off.
 You did the dishes… put on a load of laundry… threw out the floor-popcorn… made your lunch for tomorrow… All of which only took a couple hours.  By 9pm you had nothing to do but think of Jin out on his date.  At this point, he was probably taking her home… she’d probably invite him in… You looked over at the silver bag on the counter and sighed.  Chocolate might actually help your mood a bit.  You reached into the bag and took one, unwrapping it as you walked to the couch.  The chocolate itself was a dark round ball… probably a truffle.
 You bit into it and your whole body shivered at the taste.  It was dark, bitter… but the cream inside had rich sweetness that complimented the bitter hard shell of the outside.  It melted in your mouth almost immediately and you moaned with the pleasure of it.  However much Jin had paid for these, it was definitely worth it.  You licked your lips, then let your tongue dip into the cream inside the shell, scooping it out.  As it melted on your tongue you closed your eyes and sighed.  Your whole mood had shifted… you felt lighter… happier…   You finished the truffle off in two more bites.  Standing up from the couch, you started to walk over to the counter to get the rest of them.
 ‘Don’t eat them all at once!’ Jin’s voice echoed in your head.  You stopped at the counter, trying to ignore the memory.  It had been so good!  You’d never tasted chocolate like that before…  You reached for the bag… or at least tried to.  Your hand was so heavy...
 You felt an overwhelming wave of exhaustion, your eyelids drooping even as you stood at the counter.  What was happening?  You moved away from the counter and started down the hall.  Suddenly, the only thing in your mind was the desperate need to sleep… You had to go to bed… and now.
 You stumbled through the hallway to your room, literally falling into bed. You rolled to your side, let out a sigh and immediately fell asleep.
 ~
 You opened your eyes and immediately knew you were dreaming.  Every color was so vibrant, like it couldn’t really exist.  You were standing on a beach, and the sky was overcast.  Even though it was gray, the vibrancy of the water made everything seem so bright.  You were barefoot and waves crashed and drove forward, just barely reaching your toes.  The water felt warm and you stepped forward, letting it completely cover your feet.
 You hardly ever dreamt like this… It was relaxing and beautiful.  You started to walk along the beach, which seemed never-ending to either side.  In the distance there were a couple lounging chairs, one taken by someone.  You walked a little faster and saw that Jin was sitting back, sunglasses on, holding a fruity drink of some sort.  Your heart sank a bit… You were really dreaming about Jin again?  It was always so hard to dream about Jin, because they were either incredibly good and you were upset when you woke up, finding they weren’t true… or they were horrible, not being able to find him, or him leaving forever, and you’d wake up sick and depressed…  He turned to see you coming and waved at you, lifting the drink in salute.  You waved back.
 “Took you long enough,” he said, taking a sip.  “I’ve been waiting forever…”  You sat down, and immediately a drink appeared on the table next to you.  You didn’t sit back or respond in any way.  You just watched the waves and felt the warm wind in your hair.  Taking a sip of the dream drink, you sighed and dropped your head.
 “What’s up, Y/N?  You seem down…”
 This was so weird… Jin NEVER talked in your dreams…  It was usually just shared emotion, or looks… or sometimes…  You closed your eyes, blood heating at the thought of those sometimes dreams.
 “I am down…” you said softly, your voice sounding strange to your ears.
 “Can I help you?” he asked.
 “No… it’s something I have to deal with myself,” you said, as if all of this was real.  Suddenly thunder rolled above and it started to rain.  You knew you were getting wet, but the dream you couldn’t really feel it.  The water started churning angrily, side to side.
 “Let’s go for a swim…” Jin said, standing and taking off his shirt and revealing tan, muscled skin.  Your throat went dry and fear gripped your heart.  He couldn’t go swimming now… not with the water so dangerous.
 “No… we can’t…”  But even as you spoke he started walking towards the ocean.  You looked down at yourself and you were suddenly wearing a red bikini… You looked back at Jin, now knee deep in the waves.  “No!” you called… “Come back!”  But he kept going.  You stood and followed him, wading into the water as he dove under a wave.  The thunder crashed again and you saw lightning in the distance.  You were becoming frantic, and the waves were growing wilder… churning one way then another.  One crashed into you and you went under.  You pushed off the sandy floor and got your head above the water.  You could see him standing almost shoulder deep in the distance.  He looked over his shoulder and smiled, but you could see a huge wave coming straight for him.  You lurched forward with supernatural speed...thank god this was a dream…  And reached him just in time.  The wave was about to crash over both of you, but then his arms wrapped around you.
 Suddenly the water went still, completely...unnaturally still…  You looked up into his face and Jin smiled down at you.
 “What are you so worried about?” he asked, and you felt your lip tremble.  He cupped your face and placed a gentle kiss on your forehead.  The clouds above dissipated and the sun peaked through here and there… before it covered the entire sky in blue hues.  His hand slid down your spine and you shivered.
 “I’m… you were…” you started, and he watched you, waiting.  “I couldn’t reach you… you were too far ahead.”  He smiled.
 “You’re calling to me… I can’t hear what you’ve said…” he started to sing.  He would do this time after time when you were together… and it made you smile that dream Jin also did it.  “Were you falling behind?” he asked.
You nodded, and he pulled you close.  Closing your eyes, you took a deep breath and smelled the salty air mixed with his skin.  He felt so warm… so close…  your heart ached knowing it wasn’t real, but you didn’t care.  You kissed his shoulder, and he squeezed you tighter.
 “You’re on your date right now…” you said softly.  “Eating chocolate.”
 “Yep,” he said, stroking your hair.
 “I bet she’s pretty…” you said as you let your arms rise to wrap around his waist.
 “Yep…”
 “I should have told you to come over afterwards…” you nuzzled his neck.
 “I wanted to…” he nuzzled your temple.
 This was so nice… so serene and perfect… Feeling his arms around you this way… the water around you… your skin touching his.
 “I’m going to miss you,” you kissed his neck.
 “I’m not going anywhere,” he answered, kissing your temple.
 “Yes you are…” you said, backing away and looking up at him.  “You’re not going to be mine anymore.”
 “Was I yours?”
 “Yes… for a while…” You dropped your head.  “But not anymore…  we’re… going back…”
 Suddenly you were both standing on the beach again, clothed and standing apart.  The clouds came returned, blocking the sun.
 “Back?”
 “Back to being friends…”
 “We are friends…” he answered with a smile.
 “But we were…” Thunder and rain began again.  We were more…”  Despair clogged your heart and he was now standing about ten feet away from you.  The wind whistled around you and he reached for you.  He was saying something, but you couldn’t hear what it was.  The look in his eyes was piercing, intense in a way that made the dream seem impossibly real.  Tears slipped down your cheeks as the rain fell in sheets, blocking him from view.
 ~
You opened your eyes to see a storm outside your window.  It was dark, but it was obviously daytime.  You sluggishly reached for your phone to see that you’d slept till 10am… 13 hours!  You turned to lay on your back and stared up at the ceiling, a tear slipping from the corner of your eye and running in a line down your temple.
 It had seemed so real… you could almost still feel his arms holding you.  He’d been so gentle… so tender… and you ached with longing for that connection.  You wiped your eyes and looked back at your phone… You had a message from Jin.
 Jin: Hey? Lunch?
 You: Maybe… It’s my day off but I’m tired…
 Jin: I should have come over.
 Your mind refused to answer that.  You needed some semblance of normalcy again.  Jin was Jin… not Dream Jin.
 You: Bring something over then.
 Jin: What do you want?
 You: Anything you want is good.
 Jin: Sushi it is then.
 You groaned.
 You: Anything BUT that is good!
 Jin: Too late! ;)
 You groaned again and rolled onto your side staring at his words.  Your stomach felt sick.  He only ever wanted to come over right after a date when it went really well.  It was a ritual on both sides.  After your date with NamJoon, you’d spent almost 4 hours at Jin’s the next day, talking about every detail.  You buried your face in your hands.  He’d want to gush about it, tell you everything… and you weren’t sure you could handle it.  You felt so on edge, so drained emotionally!  You had to get up and get ready though… he would be here in about an hour.  Lunch after a date usually started at 11, which didn’t give you a lot of time.  By the time you’d showered, brushed your teeth, dried your hair and got dressed, it was already past 11am, which meant he’d be here any minute.
 Wearing a long sleeve blue pullover and a pair of jeans, you walked into the kitchen and saw the silver bag on the counter.  That chocolate!  It had been so delicious… but…  Had it drugged you?  You picked up the bag and examined it.  There was no label, no indication of what kind of chocolate it was, where it was from, or what was in it.  Was it so expensive because it had heroin in it or something?  You laughed a little to yourself, remembering your intensely vivid dream and set it back on the counter.  The dream couldn’t have been a side effect of the chocolate… that’d just be weird.  You probably fell asleep because you’d been exhausted… you just hadn’t realized how exhausted.
 A knock at the door made you jump, and you ran to open it.  You smiled at Jin as he stood there with pizza box in hand.
 “It’s not sushi pizza… right?” you asked letting him in.
 “Sushi pizza… that sounds… amazing!”  He moaned and you laughed at him.
 “It sounds disgusting!” you said, going for the fridge.  You pulled out a couple cokes and walked over to where he sat on the couch, pizza open on the coffee table.
 “Pepperoni… the safe choice…” he said, taking the coke from you.
 “The ONLY choice,” you said, opening yours and taking a sip.  You sat down next to him, but not too close, and reached for a slice.  Time to get this over with… “So… your date went that well, huh?”  Jin smirked at you, mouth full.  He swallowed before answering.
 “Seriously… she’s fantastic,” he said, taking another bite.  You forced yourself to swallow past the lump in your throat, then smiled and forced enthusiasm.
 “That’s great!  Tell me about her,”  You tried to sound interested, putting on the smile and adding the correct tone inflection.  Inside you felt sick… it was as if the pizza you’d eaten were turning rotten inside your stomach, but you grabbed another slice anyway.  Jin threw his head back and sighed.
 “I loved talking to her,” he said.  “We didn’t say a lot, but it meant a lot, you know?”  You nodded and took another bite, feeling like it was turning to ash in your mouth.  “She’s gorgeous too… I love her hair,” he picked up another piece of pizza and downed almost half of it in one bite.  He chewed a bit but still talked with his mouth full.  “She’s just so sweet!”
 “Speaking of sweet,” you said, taking a drink of coke, “...how was the chocolate?  Did she like it?”
 “I think so,” he said.  “She didn’t have a lot, but she seemed to like what she ate.”  He looked directly into your eyes.  “Did you like it?” he smirked.  The memory of the taste mixed with the look in his eyes made your heart stop for a moment.
 “It was only the best chocolate I’ve ever had in my life,” you said emphatically.  “Seriously, what was in that stuff!?”
 “I know right!?” he said.  “How many pieces did you have?  You ate them all, didn’t you!”  He was suddenly accusing, but only jokingly so.
 “Just one! Just one!” you smiled.  “I promise!  I had one and fell immediately asleep!”
 “Sure… bring me the bag!” He pointed at the counter.  “Proof!”  You rolled your eyes, stood, and got the bag off the counter. Walking back you pulled out one of the two remaining chocolates before handing the bag to Jin.  He eyed you warily.
 “Dessert!” you said.  You couldn’t get the memory of the taste out of your mind, so why not go ahead and have one?
 Jin looked into the bag, then back up at you with a wicked grin.  He licked his lips, making your mouth go dry, and reached into the bag, pulling out the last piece.
 “Um… excuse me!” you said, setting your chocolate on the coffee table and lurching towards him and reaching for the candy.  He leaned back, holding it out of reach as you fell against him, chest against his, face inches from his mouth.  Your heart rate sped up and you couldn’t breathe.
 “You can learn to share,” he said with a slight chuckle.  You put aside whatever flutterings were going on inside you and reached again, still not getting it from him.
 “Oh come on!  You gave these to me!” you whined.  He laughed and twisted, trying to get away, but you were practically climbing over him.
 “Which is why you should share with me!” he yelled.  Without warning, he grabbed your wrists and held you above him.  You still struggled, trying to get the chocolate from his grasp, and he pulled one of your legs between his and flipped.  All laughter fled as Jin hovered above you, your wrists pinned next to you on the couch.  He was breathing heavy, as were you… and time seemed to stop.
 “You want it that badly?” he said, panting, his voice suddenly low.  You swallowed and nodded.  He removed his hands from yours and began unwrapping the chocolate.  You couldn’t move… you could hardly breathe, as he brought the unwrapped chocolate to your lips.  Your hand twitched, then reached to take it from him, but he pulled it back, looking at you playfully. His hand came back to your wrist, holding it down.
 What was going on?  You relaxed your hand again and he brought the chocolate back to your mouth, letting it lightly rest on your lips.  Hesitantly, you opened your mouth and bit through the hard shell.  Almost immediately you closed your eyes, letting the chocolate melt on your tongue and you moaned.  You opened your mouth again and let your teeth sink into the soft center, pulling more into your mouth.  You felt your back arch, and let your tongue lick the truffle cream from the center.  Your eyes looked up into Jin’s above you, and your mouth froze.  His eyes were dark… burning… his mouth parted slightly.  He pressed the rest of the chocolate into your mouth, his fingers brushing your lips.  You don’t know who instigated it, but Jin’s fingertip was in your mouth.  You closed your eyes again as you sucked the slightly melted chocolate from the tip, letting your tongue trace up and down the edge.
 You met his gaze again, and he pulled his finger from between your lips, slowly.  You looked at his hand, and there was a little bit of chocolate left on his thumb.  He moved his hand to his mouth, and you watched as he licked, then sucked that little smear of chocolate from his finger.  It was too much.
 Almost with a cry, you struggled to get up, pulling your legs from between his.  Jin was startled, so he let you.
 “Y/N,” he said softly, pleading.  You stood from the couch, but almost immediately fell backwards, your head going dizzy.
 “I… I just…”  You brought your hand up to your forehead.  “God, I’m so tired… why…”  You looked over at Jin, suspiciously.  “What’s in that stuff?  I’m…”  You could barely keep your eyes open, and Jin’s arm was around you.
 “Are you ok?  What’s happening!?”  He shook your shoulders, and you opened your eyes, looking back into his.
 “I’m…ok... I need to lay down…” you said, trying to stand.  Instead, he backed up, and pulled you onto the couch.   It was comfortable…  You lay your head on his thigh and closed your eyes.  Your body was so heavy.
 “Should I call-”
 “No…” you mumbled, feeling his hand rest on your head.  “Just… let me sleep for a few minutes…”  He seemed to relax a little as you curled onto your side, facing his stomach.  It had been so sudden again… but this time you were less afraid…
 Because Jin was there… running his fingers through your hair.
 ~
 You knew this place…. This was TaeHyung’s apartment…  You walked through the living room full of people, nobody noticing you.  The scene was familiar for some reason.  It was like an itch at the back of your mind that you couldn’t scratch.  Then you saw yourself… You were wearing a strapless knee length blue dress that hugged your curves.  Your hair was a little shorter…  and you were talking to someone.
 Your breath caught as you remembered the last time you wore that dress at TaeHyung’s apartment.  It had been the night you’d met NamJoon for the first time.  You looked around the room, not seeing Nam or Jin.  Walking past the kitchen to the hallway, you squeezed by groups of people in conversations.  Down the hall and into the first bedroom, you found them… NamJoon and Jin.
 “Dude… come on…  She’s gorgeous!” NamJoon was saying.  Jin had a furrow between his brows.
 “I don’t know Joon…” he said, running his hand through his hair.  NamJoon pushed.
 “I don’t see what the problem is… you introduced her to Mark of all people last year… Can’t you set me up?”  Jin’s face looked almost tormented.  NamJoon couldn’t see it, but you could… you knew him.
 “She’s not really looking for anything right now,” Jin said, trying to explain.  “Seriously, I don’t know if it’ll do any good.  You can just go talk to her on your own…”
 “Yeah right,” NamJoon said, and you were shocked. NamJoon was always so confident.  “I know how much weight your words carry with her… Mark told me.”  Jin sighed and crossed his arms over his chest.  “If I don’t have your ok, it’s a no-go.  Come on man…”  Nam’s voice got serious.  “I’m being serious here… I’m not just in this to fool around.  All I need is a decent shot…”  Jin was quiet, thinking.
 “It’s just-”
 “Unless you want her…” NamJoon said.  Jin’s face shot up, his eyes widening.
 “That’s not…” he stammered... Jin was… flustered… You couldn’t believe the look on his face.  You’d seen this look before… you knew what it meant.  “That’s not it,” he said, finally smiling.  “It’s fine… I’ll set it up.  Just go talk to her.”
 “Thanks man…” NamJoon said, putting his hand on Jin’s shoulder and squeezing.  “I’m gonna go get another beer.  Want something?”  Jin shook his head and NamJoon left the room.  You stayed, watching Jin’s face fall.  He sat on the bed and buried his face in his hands.
 “Jin…” you whispered.  But he couldn’t hear you.  This was just a dream afterall…  But the look on his face… He stood, picking up a small pillow off the bed and hurled it hard against the wall.
 “Damn it!” he said in a whisper that could have been a shout.  He took a deep breath, his head down.  You watched him wipe a tear from his eye as he whispered, “Shit…” under his breath.  He squared his shoulders, resolute, and walked out the door into the hallway.  You stood there in the bedroom for a minute, trying to comprehend what you were seeing.  NamJoon was wearing that red shirt you loved so much… the one with the paint splatters… it’s the one he was wearing when you met him.  Jin… he was in a black button down shirt and dark jeans… the ones you’d helped him pick out.  Is that what he was wearing that night?  How were you seeing this?  Was this real?
 No…. it was just a dream… It was hazy and other voices seemed to run together with an echo… It’s the second time you’d been so absolutely aware that you were dreaming…  but you had to see where this went… was there more?  You walked back into the hallway and made your way to the living room.  You saw yourself talking to NamJoon, while Jin stood by the kitchen, near you… watching past you and NamJoon.  His face was tight, brows together, and more serious than you can remember seeing him.  Your heart ached at the turmoil in his eyes.  He took a deep breath, put on a bright smile and walked towards you and NamJoon.  You followed.
 “Hey!” Jin said, throwing his arm around NamJoon’s shoulders and looking at you.  “I see you’ve met Joonie…”  Past You laughed.
 “Joonie, huh?”  Past You smirked and looked at Joon from under your eyelashes.  You wanted to kick yourself… literally.  Couldn’t you see past Jin’s smile?  It was so obvious!
 “NamJoon’s a great guy….” Jin said, messing up his hair before dropping his arm.  “If he asks you out, you should totally say yes…”  Jin dodged Past You’s foot as it stretched out to kick him.  He backed away, pointing at NamJoon and giving a thumbs up.  Past You smiled and winked.
 You thought you could throw up.  You watched as Jin made his way to the front door and left.  Had he really left right afterwards?  You hadn’t noticed… you had been so enthralled by NamJoon’s charm.  You hurried out the door, standing on the landing as you watched Jin making his way to his car.  Stormclouds rolled in as you ran down the stairs, across the courtyard, into the parking lot and stopped.  Jin was sitting in his car, head down, knuckles white as they gripped the steering wheel.  As the rain began to fall, his head still down, you watched as his hand made a fist and began to pound the dashboard… once… twice… a third time.  He lifted his head and started the car.  You ran to it as he started to back up, but he took off just as you made it to the parking space.
 He couldn’t hear you yell for him to stop.  He couldn’t see you wiping away a tear.
 Because none of this was real… It was just a dream.
 The rain falling seemed to blur the surroundings, melting the sky into the buildings… then into the street.  You were left in a cold gray world… the silence stealing your breath.
 ~
 You woke up with a start… You were alone on the couch, and a little disoriented…  not to mention incredibly emotional.  You pushed yourself up slowly and pushed your hair out of your eyes.  Looking around, you found Jin sitting in the chair next to the couch watching you.
 “Five more minutes, and I was going to call an ambulance,” he said seriously.
 “How long was I out,” you muttered, sitting up straighter and taking in a deep breath.  Your mind was beginning to clear, the foggy haze of the dream dissipating in the light of Jin’s smile.
 “Almost 30 minutes,” he said.  Only 30 minutes?  You reached for your warm can of coke on the coffee table and took a sip.  Jin stood and you looked up at him, not really knowing what to say.  What could you say after a dream like that?!  “Are you ok?” he asked.
 “I’m ok…” you said weakly, looking down at the last piece of chocolate resting on the table.  “I… I think I might be allergic to this or something…  I fell asleep immediately after eating it… both times.”  Jin frowned.
 “That’s weird…” he said, walking over and picking up the shiny wrapped chocolate ball from the coffee table.
 “I know, right?” you said, shaking your head. “I’ve slept so much… I don’t know if I could handle it again.”
 “What if we split it?” he asked.  You looked at him warily.  “Not now, of course, but tonight.”
 “Tonight?” you asked, standing.
 “After what just happened, I’m absolutely staying with you,” he said seriously.  Your mind went back to earlier… before you’d passed out.  To Jin hovering above you as you sucked on his fingers… to your legs intertwined… his hand pinning you to the couch as he fed you chocolate that had your insides turning to lava when it hit your tongue.  You could feel yourself blushing, and you glanced at him. He was watching you with a strange expression, before he smiled and tossed the chocolate into the air and caught it again.
 “What do you want to do?” he asked lightly. It was as if earlier had never happened… had it? Had it just been a part of the dream? Some crazy thing that started the moment the chocolate had touched your lips? But….  You shook yourself and smile up at your best friend.
 “I'm up for whatever! What'd you have in mind?” Jin smirked evilly at you and you knew exactly what he had in mind.
 “Oh come on… really?” He wiggled his eyebrows at you.  You smiled.
 ~
 SmorsgasBoard Game Night happened probably once every year or so. And it turned out today was the day! You started with CandyLand, because it was tradition… then you moved on to Clue, Scrabble, Boggle, Sorry, Monopoly, and finally ended with Life.  The whole thing took hours, and it was well past 7pm by the time you were tallying your life tiles.
 You smacked Jin’s hand as he not-so-sneakily tried to steal an extra tile from the box.
 “You have tried to cheat every game!” you yelled.  “You forfeit a tile!”
 “Absolutely not! I didn't actually cheat…. I just tried… I'm only penalized if I succeed…” he argued.
 “What kind of logic is that!?” you laughed as he hid all his tiles from your searching fingers.
 “The logic of a winner!” He laughed and grabbed your wrists, keeping you from taking the stupid tiles.  Your heart was racing, but you ignored it and stayed playful, friendly… normal.  You relaxed, and he looked at you, his grip tightening.
 “What? I'm giving up!” You said, stretching out your fingers in defeat.
 “I don't trust you…” he said with a smirk.
 “I'm not the one cheating!” You laughed, trying to pull back.  He pulled you forward and you were suddenly inches from his face.  He looked at you oddly, and leaned close, his lips almost touching your ear.
 “Then… how about we each take one…” he whispered, sending shivers down your neck.
 “Deal!” You spoke a bit too loud and he let you go with a smirk.
 “Spots… all over you!” He said laughing. Oh no…
 “Don't say it…”
 “Cheetah!!!” He pointed at you, and laughed. “A cheater at heart, I swear.”
 “It's not cheating if we both do it…” you said with a smirk, trying not to laugh at his stupid pun.
 “Right is right, and wrong is wrong… doesn't matter if it's done by one or multiple people…”  And with that, he'd gone philosophical.  He was right of course… but you couldn't say you'd only agreed because you’d wanted so badly at that moment to kiss him, that you’d have said anything to get him to let go.
 So a cheetah you now were.  Sigh…
 You and Jin each grabbed a tile from the box and quickly tallied your money.  You’d both retired in Millionaire Estates… you’d both been married… you with three kids, Jin with two…   You’d been an Accountant, while Jin had been an Actor.  Amounts were tallied, life tiles counted, and….
 “YES!!!!” you yelled out, raising your hands above your head and falling backwards onto the floor.
 “Oh come on!!” Jin said, laughing.  “You only won because of that last tile you took!”
 “We… WE took…” you said, sitting up again.  “I am the winner of the SmorgasBoard!!!”  You fell backwards, kicking your legs in the air really fast.  While Jin had won Candyland, Boggle, and Monopoly, you had won Clue, Scrabble and Sorry, leaving Life to be the tiebreaker for the overall winner.  You sat up again, looking at Jin’s pout and giggling.  “Loser still makes dinner?”  Jin’s pout turned into a grin.
 “Thank God I lost!” he laughed, slapping his knee.  “You clean up; I’ll see what you have.”  You stuck your tongue out at him, and he licked his upper lip, making you suck your tongue back into your mouth quickly and Jin winked at you.  Ok… he was starting to act that way again…
 Jin complained about how you had ‘absolutely nothing’ in your house with which to cook, but somehow ended up making an amazing meal anyway.  All through dinner you tried to keep up with the conversation, while also trying to figure out a way to not share the chocolate with him.  It wasn’t that you wanted it all to yourself, though it could have been… it was that good… But it was more because of the dreams you had when you ate it.  You couldn’t let SeokJin see that part of you.  You still wanted to be his friend, you wanted him in your life… but if he knew about your feelings he’d back off.
 “Tell me more about your date!” you said during a lull in the conversation.  “You gonna call her?”  Jin let his fork play with the remaining food on his plate and got a goofy smile on his face.
 “I am…” he said.  “I… I think I’m serious about this one.”  Your heart dropped.  You absolutely couldn’t share the chocolate with him now… He looked up and into your eyes, and there was a meaning there you couldn’t understand.
 “When are we gonna eat that chocolate?” he asked.  “It’s almost 9pm… should we change into pajamas now or….”  He wiggled his eyebrows at you and you rolled your eyes.
 “Put the dishes in the sink,” you said, standing.  “I have to go to the bathroom.”
 “I hope everything comes out ok,” he said, his face serious.
 “Eeew!  You’re gross!”  He laughed and started picking up the plates.  You walked down the hall, went into the bathroom and shut the door.  You pulled the silver wrapped chocolate out of your pocket, feeling your hand tremble.  You didn’t know what it would do… you were scared to pass out again… you were scared about what you would see… but you couldn’t let Jin eat it.  You quickly unwrapped it and shoved the whole thing into your mouth.
 You gasped at the heady sensation of the chocolate melting onto your tongue, the soft creme filling every corner of your mouth.  You chewed, swirled your tongue around and over the harder pieces as they liquified and dripped down your throat.  When you had finally swallowed the last of it, you opened the bathroom door and immediately fell, your hands bracing against the opposite wall as your knees hit the floor.
 “Y/N?”  You heard footsteps and looked up to see Jin at the end of the hallway.  “Damn it!” he shouted and ran to you, kneeling beside you.  “I told you we’d both take it… you never listen to me!”  His angry words and tone were at odds with the gentleness of his hands as he cupped your face.
 “I… had to…” you said, your words starting to slur as you fought to keep your eyelids open.
 “I bet you did,” he muttered, and you couldn’t quite understand what he meant by that.  Putting an arm under your legs and the other around your back, he lifted you up, bracing you against his chest.  He carried you to your room and laid you on the bed, climbing in beside you and caressing your face.  You lifted a hand weakly, and he took it in his.
 “I… I’m sorry…” you said, your eyes closing.
 “It’s ok… I’ll be here when you wake up…” he said, his words echoing in your head.
 “I’ll stay with you…”
 ~
 You opened your eyes to find yourself sitting in the middle of a tree-lined path.  The dirt beneath you was dry and soft, the trees green with branches full of blossoming yellow flowers… what were they?  Acacia trees… The blossoms swayed in the breeze, sending bright yellow petals floating down to the path.  You stood and looked behind you, then in front of you.  You weren’t sure what to do… so you started walking.  You walked for what felt like forever, not entirely sure if you had gone the right way…  and then you saw him.
 Far ahead of you, you saw a man in a white shirt and khaki slacks standing at a fork in the road.  His broad shoulders gave him away immediately, but you’d have known it was him anyway.  It had to be Jin.  You started running, needing to get to him quickly.  You were almost to him when he turned and you slowed, eventually stopping a few feet from him.
 He was glaring at you angrily.  His eyes were fierce and you could feel yourself starting to tremble.
 “Jin…” you whispered, not really knowing what to say, but needing to say his name.
 “What do you want, Y/N?!” he growled angrily.  You flinched and stepped back.  Through everything, you hadn’t been prepared for his anger.  You’d never seen him like this.
 “What do you mean?  I’m here to see you…” you said, somehow knowing it was true.  Jin sighed, dropped his head, then looked up again, his eyes on you. He seemed frustrated, but resigned.
 “What do you want, Y/N…” he repeated, softer.  Your heart ached and didn’t know how to answer him.  He looked down both paths, and then you could see it.  The trees stopped here, the path to the left was lined with large beautiful deep red tulips, while the path to the right was lined with orange and yellow marigolds.  You backed away from both pathways, looking up at Jin in question.
 “Can’t we just stay here?” you asked, looking around at the beautiful yellow acacia blossoms.  However, now looking at them made you sad.  You looked to the left path… the red tulips were lush and full, petals flecked with dew.  Their fragrance alone was enticing…  You looked down the right path and started to shake.  The flowers were beautiful yes, but you almost wanted to cry looking at them.  You looked back at Jin, who was now standing and facing you, hands resting in his pockets.
 “We can’t stay here…” he said, holding his hand out to you.  You backed up a step, and his face hardened.  “What do you want, Y/N!?” he shouted angrily.  You didn’t know what to say, what to do.  You were scared, so much so that you could feel your body starting to shake.
 “I… I want to stay here…” you said, starting to cry, “...with you…”  His face softened and he reached his hand towards you again.
 “I’m not staying here…” he said, his smile sad.  “I’m leaving… that way…” and he pointed towards the left path… the red tulips…  You looked down the right path and the marigolds, and you wanted to run away.
 “But I want to stay…” you said, pleading, “...with you.”
 “Come with me…” he said, taking a step towards you.  “Please…”  His hand fell to his side and you shook your head.  You wanted to… but you knew this was a dream.  You turned around, back to him and covered your face.
 This was just a dream… leaving with him meant nothing… but it meant everything… and you didn’t know how you knew that.  But it was only a dream… a dream…  Your head shot up.  It was only a dream! Of course you could go with him!  You had to! You turned around... but Jin was gone.
 “No…” you whispered.  “Jin!”  You called to him and started running down the left path with the tulips.  “Jin!  Where are you!?  I’m coming!”  You ran around twists and turns and you still didn’t see him.  Tears were running down your face.  You had to get to him… you had to… it was important.  Finally, you saw a peak of white near the ground ahead of you.  There he was, sitting against the trunk of a single willow tree surrounded by red tulips.  He looked up, his face surprised.
 “Y/N…” your name whispered on his lips caused you to stop in your tracks.  “You… you came…”  He stood up and simply looked at you.  You studied his face… tear tracks marked his cheeks and he had the ghost of a smile on his lips.  “What do you want, Y/N?” he said with a laugh.
 “I… I want you…” you said.  And you meant it… you meant it with your entire being.  The willow tree faded, leaving only a mountain of red tulips where it had stood… and Jin ran to you.  You wanted to cry with joy… even though you were unsure.  When he reached you, he slowed.  He took your hand in his, and with the other, cupped your cheek and wiped away a tear.
 “You want me…” he said softly, almost in wonder.  You nodded, and Jin leaned down and pressed his mouth to yours.
 ~~~~~~~~~~
 Jin jerked awake, his heart swelling.  He knew you’d be awake within moments and turned to watch you.  You had chosen him… you were afraid… but you’d chosen him anyway.  You had a tear resting on your cheek, and your breathing was starting to speed up.  He blinked away his own tears and smiled down at you.
 That first dream had been amazing… finally getting to hold you that way… feeling you kiss his shoulder… feeling your skin pressed to his own.  When the storm had calmed, he had been so happy.  But you hadn’t understood… you’d run… you’d pushed him away.  But even so, you were fantastic… he’d loved talking to you… you were gorgeous, and sweet, and he loved your hair and your face and everything about you.
 The second dream was a surprise…  He hadn’t know the chocolate had affected you that way, and hadn’t expected you to fall into it so suddenly.  He’d wanted to lick the corner of your mouth where a small smear of chocolate had been… he’d wanted to tasted inside your mouth, running his tongue over yours in search of any last drop.  He’d wanted to not have to rely on the chocolate.  But after you had passed out, he had as well.  He’d watched you as you watched his past self.  He was embarrassed, scared, and angry all at the same time.  He should never have given in to NamJoon.  He’d had plans… plans to finally make you his, even though you seemed to only see him as a friend.  But he’d let his insecurities get the better of him… and he underestimated NamJoon’s attraction to you… your chemistry.  It killed him to see you with Joon.  To know he was touching you… tasting you… making love to you... He closed it eyes to drive out the images.  He’d seen you glare at your past self, then run after him.  As the rain began, he felt hope…
 You were supposed to take the final piece together… it would have fully shared his feelings… you’d have felt them as strongly as you’d felt your own… but you hid.  You’d taken it alone, and more than anything, it had scared him senseless.  What if you ran away again?  What if you didn’t choose him?  And when you’d stood there, tears in your eyes wanting to stay on the path instead of choosing him, he had wanted to shake you.  When you turned your back on him, he’d thought he had his answer.  He had disappeared for a moment… become nothing… before reappearing under the willow tree.  And there he let his tears fall.  But you had appeared… you’d called out to him… you had wanted him.
 He looked down, and his eyes met yours as you looked up at him.
 “Hi…” he said softly, reaching out to caress your face.
 “Hi…” you said weakly.  He kept touching your face, letting his fingers trail over your cheeks, over your hair, pushing it behind your ear, down your jawline to your chin and back over your cheek again.  Your breath caught and your lips parted.
 Jin leaned down hesitantly, and placed a soft, lingering kiss on your lips.  When he pulled back, your eyes were closed, and another tear leaked out of the corner of your eye.  He wiped it away and you opened your eyes again.
 “Am I…” you swallowed, “...is this a dream?”  Jin smiled and leaned down again, kissing you more fervently.  When you kissed him back he felt like he was flying.  He dug his hand into your hair as he lay next to you.  The kiss slowly came to a stop and he pulled away.  You were looking at him in shock… then you smiled.
 “It’s… It’s me…” you said, as a sob hit you.  “I’m the… chocolate date…”  You covered your mouth as another sob hit and Jin laughed.
 “Of course you are, dummy….” he said, poking your forehead.  He sat up, pulling you with him, and dried your tears with his sleeve.  “How could it be anybody but you?”
 “But how-”
 “It doesn’t matter…” he cut you off, leaning in to kiss you again.  “You finally see me…”  He pulled you into his arms and buried his face in your neck.  Your arms wrapped around his waist, and you kissed his temple.
 “We’re really doing this…” you said, pushing him back and looking into his eyes.  “Because if this doesn’t-” and he cut you off with a passionate kiss.  His tongue delved into your mouth, and you moaned, pressing yourself against him.  He pulled back again, panting for breath.
 “This is it… you chose me…” Jin kissed your forehead, your eyelids, your nose, then your lips again.  “I will always choose you… we just fit...”  You swallowed and nodded as a tear fell down your cheek.  Jin leaned in and kissed it away.
 “How long was I…” you blinked and studied him, “...were we asleep?” you asked.  Jin just couldn’t stop touching you, his hands lingering at your waist before trailing up your sides to your neck.
 “I think we’ve slept long enough…” he said huskily.  The look in your eyes changed, and you bit your lip, apprehensive.  “Come here…” he said softly, pulling you against his chest and letting your head rest on his shoulder.  You let out a long sigh against his neck, making him shiver.  Then you bit his neck.  He groaned and bit his lip, his hand digging into your hair as you lightly sucked the spot there.  You looked up at him and smiled.
 “You taste even better than that chocolate…” you said, licking your lips, and Jin practically growled as he pounced, pressing you into the bed as he devoured your mouth.
 You had both slept enough… and he spent the rest of the night… and part of the next morning… proving just how perfectly the two of you fit together.
 The End
