U often say u prefer later seasons over the earlier ones but i dont like much about the late seasons. It's not scary anymore, it's more about side characters than the brothers, and the brothers don't have the same passion for each other like they used to. What do u like more now than earlier seasons?
Hi Nonnie! Yes, it’s true I prefer the late seasons over the early ones, and there’s many reasons I do. I understand that it’s not the popular opinion, but it is mine and I respect the opinions of others.
For one, I never watched it for the horror element... to me its never been scary. Early seasons, though very entertaining and I certainly didnt hate them, just seemed like the Saturday afternoon cheesy horror flicks we used to watch as kids. My daughter refers to that era as “Tales from the Kripke” hehe. My interests are more for drama, psychological, mystery, and relationships. SPN has all of these so even though I was never impressed by the “horror” element, I loved everything else. I loved Sam and dean very early. These boys were adorable and had amazing chemistry.  I enjoyed their interaction since “Woah easy tiger” so this is what hooked me.
About the brothers not having the same passion for each other that they used to, I would have to agree, but I see more passion now than before. No, theyre not fist fighting and slamming each other into walls anymore, but that’s fine with me. I never liked how easy it was for Dean to punch Sam, sometimes for ridiculous reasons, and Sam just stand there. This gives people the impression that Dean is mean and Sam is a wimp, which isnt true for either. Now, however, they have grown, They are still much closer than real brothers, they love nothing more in the whole universe than each other and theyve even gotten to a point now where neither will let the other kill themselves to save the world. They are no longer leaving each other, they know where they belong now and I love it.
I admit i would like the show to be all about the brothers like it used to be, but i know they brought in side stories because J2 requested more time off, so I accept and respect it.
I dont like every character, nor every story, but I like that it progressed and got bigger, I dont think the show would be fun at all if nothing progressed except their age. I also love that personal elements were added. Sam and Dean seem much more real now than they did 10+ years ago. They have fears and flaws, quirks and hobbies,,,, its not like watching The Hardy Boys where the story is always more interesting than the brothers. I used to watch that show when I was a kid (theyre more famous for the books) and it was a fun show about Jr Detective brothers, but the very best episode was when Frank, the older brother, got seriously injured and almost died. Joe, the younger brother, was beside himself with worry and grief. It was the only episode I remember that focused on their relationship and not the case. I wished more episodes were like that, and thats what I love about SPN and its more prevalent in the later seasons than the early ones.
I think its fine that everyone has their favorite seasons, show runners, eras, episodes and whatever, I just really hate hearing the new stuff being trashed unnecessarily.
Thank you for the ask... my box is always open :)
