A Little Stack Of Wheat - 5-string banjo (free tabs)
Here's a new arrangement I made for A Little Stack Of Wheat, a traditional Irish hornpipe. This is mostly in a two-finger style, but I'm also brushing some chords with my thumb once in a while. Free tabs are available in my banjo club this month! Thanks for watching! https://kylegrayyoung.gumroad.com/l/kylesbanjoclub

Performers:
ANNA Crusis Women’s Choir
A child of the 1970’s grassroots feminist movement, ANNA was founded in 1975 by Dr. Catherine Roma. Her 8-year tenure built the foundation for ANNA’s musical passions and commitment to the peace and social justice movement, pulling together women from all walks of life and becoming a model for women’s choirs across the country.
ANNA Crusis Women’s Choir — women joining voices to build community, one performance at a time. Guided by a feminist sensibility to the richness and multiplicity of human experience, and to the power of collective creativity, ANNA strives for musical excellence to empower, challenge, and uplift its members and its audience with music that inspires and transforms. WIth over 70 singers, ANNA is diverse, vibrant and exciting. ANNA is every woman.

No Good Sister
Born out of a mutual attraction to all things Americana, Philadelphia trio No Good Sister’s dynamic songwriting and timeless three-part harmonies prove why they’re rising stars. Singers Meaghan Kyle, Jess McDowell and Maren Sharrow collaborate on familiar folk themes, resonating reliably, making it no surprise they can be found in front of audiences at venues like World Cafe Live (both in Philadelphia and Wilmington), The Bitter End (NYC), Club Passim (Boston), have been voted Best New Artist at WSTW’s Hometown Heroes Awards (2014), named 2015’s Artist to Watch by Ticket to Entertainment, earned a coveted Quad Showcase at the North East Regional Folk Alliance (2014), and at the iconic SXSW (2014). They are also 2015 Philadelphia Folk Festival Main Stage alums!

Ashley Phillips
Ashley Phillips is a singer/songwriter/guitarist steeped in the tradition of Soul music. She describes her sound as APSoul: acoustic guitar led, soulful and spiritual storytelling that is both universal and timeless. As a vocalist, her pure tone dances between light and lyrical, earnest and compelling. Her often percussive and rhythm-driven guitar playing creates a full sound that adds depth and supports the delicacy of her delivery.
You can get your tickets here!
Sarah and the Arrows
Sarah and the Arrows emerged out of mutual and musical admiration between friends who were fortunate enough to overlap in the folk circles of Philadelphia, PA. Sarah and the Arrows includes Sarah Napolitan on the guitar, Rosie McNamara Jones on the violin, Stacy Weathers on the banjo, and Lee Vuotto on the bass. The group predominantly plays the original songs of Sarah Napolitan, as well as some by Stacy Weathers. The group also enjoys covering a wide variety of songs known well in contemporary, folk, and country circles.
You can get your tickets here!
Silverton
Silverton builds songs from the ground up, experimenting from all angles until it just feels right. The result is multi-layered harmonies, catchy melodies, and rhythmic interplay. The band released their first, self-titled, debut EP in October, 2013, within which listeners hear simultaneous nods to folk, funk, jam, and pop. Since the EP release, Silverton has been developing new material and packing DIY house shows as well as established Philadelphia venues like Johnny Brendas and Bourbon and Branch. In February, 2015, WXPN chose “Artichoke” as a Philly local song of the day, and in August, 2015 the band was honored to be selected to play the Philadelphia Folk Fest!
The band is named after the town in Oregon which elected the nation’s first openly-transgender mayor. A Radiolab episode documents the town’s story in a touching tale of acceptance and change against all odds.
From Silverton’s heart to yours: be good to one another.

Troy emailed: "Hi Marc, I finished the epic Pub Songs podcast from Sherwood. That was a lot of fun! Thank you. I feel like I don't say that enough. It's a blast to follow your musical world.
Along the same lines, the Heroes CD is incredible. It's been getting regular play on the commute from work. Thank you for that too. I got a grin when you mentioned it on the podcast and said "you probably don't have this album."
I follow your blog via RSS feed, as I have for years. Sometimes the old ways still work. Anyway, I just read the one about social media not sparking joy for you. *raises hand* Right there with you on that one. I hear more and more that employers won't hire someone without a social media presence. Does it truly matter? I've never thought so. Sounds like you're coming to the same conclusion after years of being in the trenches on that. Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the idea of immediacy, but everything seems to be immediate online. As they say, when everything is an emergency, nothing is an emergency. Unless you're one of these YouTube stars making bank on ad revenue for having millions of followers. Maybe then I'd get the need, but I don't follow any of those types.
It's a weird balance. People tell me I'm old for not being on Facebook. Many in the younger generation don't bother with it either. Not sure where that leaves me. But I know what I like. I seek out podcasts and music. That's how I found you years ago. I've never had a reason to second guess. It takes all types in the world. It's like that in any business too. It just seems to me that musicians make music. As Spock told Kirk, it's your first, best destiny. Anything else is a waste of material. ;)
I admire that you're willing to try new things, and I can't imagine how much of it comes down to marketing. In the end, you've built a solid product with a solid brand, and you continue to do so. It speaks for itself.
I did have one old school idea... have you thought about broadcasting your podcast feed on XM radio? Or even on local FM bands (in conjunction with local Ren Faires and cons)? Then the radio stations feel the need to advertise for you. Radio is where music lives, right? You probably have considered it, but it never hurts to toss an idea out there. I've wondered why, as popular as Ren Faires are now, why there is no Ren Faire Radio. But then... this is what you do in podcast form, isn't it? Is radio not the great granddaddy of all social media? Orson Welles knew it. Freddie Mercury knew it. 80 years on, has it really changed so much?
Apologies for rambling. In any case, this is a long-winded way of saying that this old school music fan appreciates you efforts. I have for years, and I will for years to come. I hope your move to Atlanta goes smoothly. All the best to you and yours."

The On The Stage Series gives audiences the opportunity to see their favorite performers, up close and personal, with artists and audience together on the historic Colonial stage.
During a solo journey to the Azores Islands in 2011, Dana Louise, a visual artist, taught herself to play guitar. The daughter of Ezra Idlet of the Grammy-nominated Trout Fishing in America, Dana forged the beginnings of her sound, practicing amidst the archipelago’s lava rocks and dragon trees. Back in the States, she began singing and songwriting professionally, touring regionally and internationally, and is currently touring her debut album with Trout Records.
Joined by the Glorious Birds—Adams Collins (vibraphone and 5-string banjo), and Ezra Idlet and Keith Grimwood (Trout Fishing in America/guitar, percussion and bass)—Dana brings her vibrant, melodic vocals and finger picking to a body of complex songs. Drawing from jazz and bluegrass, carrying a contemporary beat, the sound is roots-rooted flung-into-the-future folk. Dana Louise and the Glorious Birds work to leave their audiences glowing with the magic music can bring: genuine human connection.
