This is going to be a bit of a repost of a thread I made on Twitter. lol

Yeah, okay, so… Here's Momo 🤍

Here's an impromptu (slightly outdated) post about why I spent a long time thinking about her back when I first made her. :o)

These two were more like beta versions of what I was going for before I made my logic and emotions personifications.

They are personifications of how I tend to see my Logic and Emotions. The Yin and Yang of my mental journey of being a complicated human being that's working through what I can.

I think because of my fondness for them, my subconscious wanted to still do something with the concept as a whole. That's where this version of my logic came into frame.

It was a vent that got the ball rolling for this thought process for sure. I'm really glad for it too. :o)

I guess as time went on, I noticed that I had a better time drawing with more cutesy designs. I felt E and L (the beta versions) weren't the full grasp of how I'd see my brain people. As that thought rolled, I actually had the feeling that something was missing..

And then I had this thought.

I've always had a hard time with expressing things. I have a history of people calling me overbearing or coming off too strong when I honestly thought I was just being nice. I guess I had a gremlin energy I hadn't known about.

Enter Momo.

So, with all of that coming to mind, my brain transformed E the hypersensitive cyclops to the mischievous, overtly "passionate" Momo. As well as the serious and collected L to the super introverted and curious Lala.

Yeah, they felt cool to me. Oh, and about that dominate stance that Momo's demonstrating here...

May it be strong emotions or just because she thinks it'll spook others, she's all about the different forms and shapes she can make. The only reason she's capable of this is because her sacrificing an eye to have a mouth. Lala was against this for obvious reasons, but Momo wanted to feel the words she had instead of thinking. She wanted to scream and laugh and more physically. However, their forms were only meant to have eyes and talk telepathically. The loss of an eye started corrupting her body and well..

She turned into the character she is today. The black parts that shift and change around on her body are Lala's pieces she put into Momo to keep her together. So far, she's okay. Lala hopes it doesn't get worse and painful, but as Momo likes to say "No pain, no gain."

And that's the gist of it! lol Thank you for reading this far! I had a lot of fun with this and I wanna draw Momo and Lala more as time goes on :o) I'm still thinking about them as time goes and I want to do more, but I'll see what the future holds lol Thank you again!

The gold accessories were created by Lala to make sure she had a handle on Momo. If the accessories were to ever be badly damaged or break, Momo would wreck absolute havoc with reckless abandon. The triangle motif was cute "friendship bands" trope.

I recently finished reading The Moe Manifesto: An Insider's Look at the Worlds of Manga, Anime, and Gaming by Patrick W. Galbraith. I was particularly interested in this book because it contains interviews with two creators involved with Showa magical girls -- Sato Toshihiko (佐藤 俊彦) and Nunokawa Yuji (布川ゆうじ). Nunokawa was involved with several shows in the Studio Pierrot Magical Girl Series, including Magic Angel Creamy Mami (魔法の天使クリィミーマミ), Magic Star Magical Emi (魔法のスターマジカルエミ), Magic Idol Pastel Yumi (魔法のアイドルパステルユーミ), Magic Stage Fancy Lala (魔法のステージ・ファンシーララ). Sato was among the creators of Magical Princess Minky Momo (魔法のプリンセス ミンキー モモ).

Both of them basically say that they never anticipated adult of male fans of their series, and were quite surprised. Nunokawa goes so far as to say that they didn't know how to make money off of the adult fans at first. Nunokawa also says that he believes the enduring power of the magical girl trope lies in its association with opportunities for peaceful change. I tend to agree with that, although I wouldn't want to limit the potential power of the archetype just to that.

Sato mentions Idol Angel Welcome Yoko (アイドル天使ようこそようこ), an early Heisei magical girl I don't hear about very often.

Overall, I enjoyed the bok, and I do finally feel like I understand what moe means which is nice. I do feel like Galbraith shrinks from the most intense question in that field, which is why there's so much focus on youth, but I do understand why.

Here's another magical girl analysis post but this time focused on 80s magical girl anime. Some elements I'm looking out for in the "magical girl formula" are: 1. Animal Sidekick, 2. Transformation sequence, 3. main romance subplot, 4 saving the day, 5. Special Attacks, 6. Becomes someone older, 7. Becomes an Idol, 8. Magical powers.

Lalabel 1980

While Lalabel is another magical anime centered around a witch with magic powers there are some things that are different from the magical girl anime of the 60s and 70s. For one, while she can use magic with a wave of a hand, she has a magic wand that she uses as well. I was only able to see 3 episodes but even still I enjoyed this anime a lot. Kind of like Meg-chan she lives with a human family that basically adopt her. She lives with two grandparents and gradually becomes friends with their grandaughter Teko. And of course she has an adorable animal side kick.

Minky Momo 1982

I swear Minky Momo really did start trends for 80s magical girls. Before I go over the magical girl tropes, I need to talk about the theme song. It is so catchy and will get stuck in your head. Like Lalabel, Minky Momo has a magic wand and is trying to fit in with the human world. She is a princess from a magical land called Fenarinarsa and has 3 animal side kicks. With her magic wand she has the ability to transform into an adult woman with any occupation. She also has a transformation sequence. In each episode, she uses her powers to help others/save the day. While I do recommend this anime, the ending is tragic...

Nanako SOS 1983

I was only able to see 3 episodes but regardless it was a pretty unique from the other magical girl anime I've seen. Nanako rather than being a witch or a princess, Nanako is girl who gains superpowers through a science experiment. She is basically "supergirl". She saves the day, can fly, and can grow bigger. What's sad though is that through this experiment she lost her memories. :( Poor Nanako.

Creamy Mami 1983

This was my absolute favorite 80s magical girl anime and I was so sad when I finished the series. All the songs are amazing. The opening, the ending songs, the songs Creamy Mami sings in episodes, the instrumental soundtrack, just beautiful. What makes Creamy Mami unique is that she starts the trend in 80s anime of an average girl that is given the power to transform. It kind of reminds of of Hana no Lun Lun. Two animal sidkicks finds a girl named Yuu and she transforms into a pop idol singer named Creamy Mami. It was Jem and the Holograms before Jem and the Holograms lol. It also starts the trend of having a romance subplot. Yuu has a crush on a boy named Toshio but he has a crush on Creamy Mami, not knowing they're the same person.

Persia the Magic Fairy 1984

Another good magical girl anime with a catchy theme song. It centers around a girl named Persia from Africa. They don't specify where in Africa but reminds me of the areas in Kenya where tourists go on safaris. Anyhow, she moves to Tokyo with an adopted family, two parents and older twin brothers. The same time she goes to Tokyo, she is given magical powers very similar to Minky Momo. She can grow older and have any profession. Her animal sidekicks are a lion named Simba, and three kappas. This is also the same anime with the out of nowhere John Lennon cameo...

Magical Emi 1985

Magical Emi is another really good one. And yes the theme song is good. The animation is amazing. It centers around a girl named Mai who is very clumsy but is given the power to turn into an older girl who is a very good musician and becomes famous. Her sidekick is a talking flying squirrel. There isn't as much of a romantic subplot but she has a crush on a boxer named Shou.

Pastel Yumi 1986

I mentioned Creamy Mami and Minky Momo having a catching theme song but this one takes the cake. Both the ending and opening song are SO GOOD. Yumi is a an average girl who is given magic powers. Instead of transforming into someone older, she is given a wand and whatever she draws can come to life. I was not expecting to love this anime (especially when they did her so dirty at the end of the first episode. :( :( ). However it ended up being my second favorite 80s magical girl anime next to Creamy Mami. Other than that, she follows the trope of being a kind hearted girl who uses her powers to save the day. There's sort of a romantic subplot?? Yumi has a crush on an older guy named Kyouhei and his younger brother Kenta has a crush on Yumi. Kenta and Yumi are the same age though and are a much better fit imo.

Fashion LaLa 1988

Instead of a series, this was movie about a girl who transforms into a fashion model. It's sort of like Creamy Mami, where she can change outfits with magic, there's two animal sidekicks. The soundtrack is really good. Also is it just me or does Lala look kind of like Minako?

I could be just seeing but I swears they have the same hair and eyes.

I want to be able to proclaim “We did it!” - Claire, 2023

I’m so grateful for Claire. She didn’t have to share with us the darker and painful experiences she’s been through because those are her very personal feelings and she has a right to her own privacy.

But she chose to anyway. And not just for her followers but also as a way to organize her own thoughts, understand herself and figure out what she wants to do with her channel.

She says she doesn’t have any particularly big ambitions or aspirations but I always saw her earnest wish to take good care of her kitties, to spread awareness about animals’ health and to give people joy through her videos as something that makes her incredibly extraordinary as a person.

And it’s quite amazing that even after all she’s contributed, she still thinks it isn’t enough and wants to do even more and better.

I’m glad I found her through Creamheroes and became one of the many hundreds of thousands who support her. She gives me so much hope and inspires strength back into me despite the bleakness of this world.

And if that helps brings her closer to fulfilling those words she wants to achieve, to let her know that all her efforts were worth it in the end, then nothing can make me happier as a fan.

Au ra horns and scales look very nice now. Somehow they made his nose more blocky (guess people complained about them smoothing it down too much?), metal horn tips are still basically same color as his horns and his irises (which are white on him) smaller so now his "glowy" look is gone. That is to be expected tho: his eyes are literally the result of me fucking around with character creation options until I came up with that visual illusion of them glowing (his actual limbal rings are a dull shade of violet and have never ever glowed). Sad I have to part with that, but I'm sure I can somehow make them fun and unsettling again if given enough time to test it out.

Here I'll admit that I wrote a long text about how Momo's face looks weird, realized that the ligthing was super unflattering and went to get new pic, immediately realizing they are not that different. It's just that the shadows around their lips, nose and eyes act very weirdly. Any direct light on their face, and they get big eyebags, much wider nose and lips that jut out in a permanent duck face. Not that big of a fan of the red on the tips of their horns or the general darker shade of scales on neck, but I am a big fan of the new limbal ring look with that white eye. Also the glow in the dark effect of limbal rings all au ra apparently now get.

Feeeesh~ Last pic is duller bc shade, the shadows from that hair just fell so weirdly and at this point I don't have the patience to wait for the leaves/sun to move. When turned towards sun the shadow on lala chins seems to go lower than it used to (under the mouth, as opposed to above it like before) which makes them a bit more pouty looking, but overall I'm happy about my little menace looking all nice and round. And her lipstick finally not looking so out of place.

And lastly, Ryne. This one has different enviroment for last pic, just so you can see the placement of that chin shadow I talked about above. I do not know why her mouth is such a tight line in the last pic, nor why her eyecolor seems shade or two darker (tried it out on every light/enviroment, no changes), but I guess she's acceptable. Just have to change that mentioned eyecolor. Shape of her eyes seems to have changed a bit too (I suspect eyelashes being different), but not sure if I'll just keep it that way.
