as a realistic creepypasta writer (or at least, i try with how difficult it is), i completely agree with you. it's not okay at all to only interpret the characters as evil because of their mental illnesses, rather than saying they'd be abusive because they're serial killers.

it's literally up to each person in this community whether they wanna stick to a version of the stories they've heard before, or write/illustrate their own. it's practically impossible to follow a set canon unless someone has made a consistent one or you do it yourself in this fandom.

cause, these fictional serial killers can be as emotionally complex as you want, or they could have little to no depth if that's the person's preference. i personally prefer realistic characters but i do not give a shit if i see some slendermansion on my dash. i love the original stuff to death.

personally, i find it more aligned to my personal canon that jeffrey is more of an extreme asshole for defense mechanisms because of how many times he's been hurt. sure, he may be a serial killer, but he still cares for people that have managed to sneak their way past his stone walls. behind the hurt, he's a playful prankster that'll beat up anyone that touches you.

everyome has their own interpretation of the pastas because there's no canon!! I think i ranted about this in a post a bit back lol

but like I said I am a HATER and i dislike people who have a different opinion than me and I like whining about things that annoy me lol
