“Wait! Please don’t leave! I’m not going to hurt you!”
Narrowing his eyes at the human, the mercreature stayed submerged beneath the rolling surface of the sea, his head from the nose up the only part that surfaced, watching the golden haired human carefully, almost intently. Humans were dangerous, vicious creatures who could not be trusted. They hunted and killed for fun, for the pleasure of it. Branded his fallen kin as trophies for other humans to see. And here was this human, leaning towards him with curious eyes. One that had actually helped him.He had been in the rockpools, traversing the deep underwater tunnels that lead to them. It had been the first time in a while since he’d been in this shallow waters, collecting clams and muscles to take back for food. It was late, and it was dark and he’d lost track of the time, enjoying the solitude that he didn’t notice the surge of the tide coming in, and the heavy rocks that had tumbled and pinned his tail painfully to the sharp walls. By the time he’d gotten the majority of it loose, the siren’s fingers were torn raw and bleeding from the sharp rock and barnacles. That’s when he’d noticed the sound of footsteps, and a figure approaching. Human. Standing there, staring at him with big blue eyes. And the human had actually helped him. Leaning over to shove away the remainder of the stones pinning him down. Once free, the mercreature had first ducked down into the inky water, intending to get away, but the tone of voice from this human caught his attention. He’d never really seen one before, not this close. Meeting the human boy’s blue eyes, the siren blew a few bubbles in the water, unable to return the boy’s speech to him. ‘Why? For what purpose did you help me?’
