“VIVID RHYTHMS”

Growing up in Denmark, Mikael Brandup says his biggest source of inspiration was the graffiti and street art of Los Angeles. Moving to LA was a huge decision but he says his time there has been a dream come true. Brandup says one of his first gigs after relocating was doing live painting at an Art Share L.A. event, so it was a special honor when the institution turned to him a few years later as it went through a rebranding. Brandup’s goal in repainting 9,300 sq. ft. of the Arts District campus on S Hewitt St was to share his belief that anything is possible and reflect Art Share L.A.’s vision of “giving artists the space to dream, grow, and create  @mikaelbrandrup/  @artshare_la/

“INNER VISIONS”

Brandup spent his early years in Denmark filling notebooks with sketches and developing his graffiti on plywood panels in his backyard. With hundreds of graffiti walls painted in southwest Copenhagen the “explosive colors and geometric shapes” of his work today still reflects elements of his history creating complex combinations of forms and letters.  In 2017 the artist, now based in Los Angeles, visited St. Petersburg, Florida for the annual Shine Festival and created this representation of his artistic vision on the side of @DeepBlueFitness, between Arlington and First Ave N.  @mikaelbrandrup/  @shineonstpete/  @ilovetheburg
