for someone who has never and probably will never lived anywhere near them, wildfires freak me out to an irrational degree
#was just finishing a book by an australian got to the bit about bushfires#specifically about deciding whether to leave or fight them and ways to fight them#aaaaaaaaaah#it even shows up in the original novel that is basically All The Author's Complexes; the climax is the defeat of an urban fire#which triggers the exact same aaaaaaaaaah#but then was just reading Floridians talking about hurricane evacuation and was reminded#so it's maybe the 'disasters that must be fled' part at least in part?#none of the natural disasters I've lived with (tornado and blizzard primarily) are things you flee#there's some flooding near where I live now but not at all frequent and flooding alone doesn't freak me out like that idk
