Wild to me how aggressive people were wrt Moffat and misogyny when a lot of it was already present in the series prior to him but ignored because of the deification of RTD, and s8-10 paved the way for a female doctor by testing the waters with characters like River, Missy, Clara and the General

#doctor who #steven moffat #and i do think that there are legitimate critques but people acted like he was the sole problem #and i think the series took a turn for the worse with chibnall because even though we had a female doctor #she was constantly undermined by other paternalistic characters #i can't think of another doctor whose power was taken away so often #or compare 10 & 11's interactions which seemed like equals to 13 with prev doctors which felt paternalistic and like mentors #which is always hilarious because they're younger!! than her!!#which...yk not very surprising when you consider the very terfy/swerfy politics of broadchurch #and terfs/swerfs tendency to undermine women's agency and equation of womanhood to fragile white feminity #meanwhile people's second issue with moffat was that he made female characters more important and even powerful than the doctor
