reminder for southern california that now is a wonderful time to buy some native wildflower seeds and to throw them somewhere in your yard (where nobody uses herbicide or pesticide) so that you'll have flowers in the spring... (lupine, desert bluebell, elegant clarkia, etc). if you throw them on wet soil and tamp or rake them down so they stick to the dirt, and do it right before a solid pattern of weekly rain and cool weather, you probably won't have to water them!
