Colorado Rockies-Minnesota Twins Series Preview
6.10.24-Dakota Hudson RHP (2-7) 5.25 ERA Vs. Chris Paddack RHP (4-3) 5.26 ERA
6.11.24-Cal Quantrill RHP (5-4) 3.58 ERA Vs. TBA
6.12.24-Austin Gomber LHP (1-3) 3.38 ERA Vs. Pablo Lopez RHP (5-6) 5.45 ERA
The Rockies At A Glance- The Rockies have had a tough time this year and an (8-28) start didn't help. Colorado showed some signs of life with a seven-game winning streak in mid-May, but they are still worst in the National League West. The Rockies split a four-game series with the Cardinals in St. Louis over the weekend and head up to face off against the Twins. Elias Diaz has had another resurgent season and is hitting .305 to lead the team. Ezequiel Tovar has taken over the shortstop job and has ten homers and twenty-eight RBI. Ryan McMahon is one of the best defensive third basemen that you've never head of. The Rockies starting staff has a 5.39 ERA, which is worst in the Majors. Austin Gomber is finally figuring things out with a 3.38 ERA and Cal Quantrill owns a 3.58 ERA. Colorado also has the worst bullpen in baseball with a 5.24 ERA. The Rockies have been searching for a closer with Daniel Bard out with an elbow injury. Jalen Beeks has saved six games and former Twin Tyler Kinley has locked down four saves.
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins are home after a long nine-game road trip. They took two of three from the Astros before the Yankees swept them, and the Pirates took two of three games over the weekend. Manny Margot has been one of the team's hottest hitters lately with a .417 average over the past week. Royce Lewis has returned with a pair of homers and three RBI. Alex Kirilloff is hitting .155 since May and Matt Wallner has figured out his swing at St. Paul. The team might need to decide on calling up Wallner soon. The team hasn't decided on a starter for Tuesday's game. Pablo Lopez got pushed to start on Wedesday, so I wonder if we'll have a bullpen game. Caleb Boushley would make the most sense for a spot start if needed. Josh Staumont has thrown 11 2/3 scoreless innings since joining the Twins. Jorge Alcala has thrown eight straight scoreless innings.
What To Watch For- The Twins are (12-9) all-time against the Rockies. The Twins took two of three from the Rockies to close out the regular season last year. The Rockies were last at Target Field in June of 2022 when the Twins took two of three games from them. Dakota Hudson threw seven innings and gave up three runs in his lone start against the Twins. Chris Paddack is (2-0) with a 2.12 ERA in four games against the Rockies. Cal Quantrill is (5-0) with a 3.23 ERA in eleven games versus the Twins. Alex Kirilloff has two career homers off Quantrill. Austin Gomber has thrown 4 1/3 innings and allowed a run in his career against the Twins. Pablo Lopez is (3-0) with a 1.71 ERA in four starts against Colorado. The Twins return home and have some winnable games coming up against the Rockies and A's.

India’s Rise In Forex to $562.4 billion as of March: A RESULT OF FDI INFLOW
Tumblr media
India’s foreign exchange reserves reached a new high of $562.4 billion as of March 3, 2023, according to a report by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This marks an increase of $8.8 billion from the previous week. The country's forex reserves have been on an upward trend over the past few years, and this increase is a reflection of India's growing economic strength and stability.
One of the key drivers of this growth has been foreign direct investment (FDI). FDI is the investment made by foreign entities in a country's businesses or assets. In recent years, India has been actively pursuing FDI as a means of boosting economic growth and development. The government has implemented a number of policies to make India more attractive to foreign investors, including relaxing restrictions on foreign ownership of Indian companies and streamlining the investment process.
India's efforts have paid off, as FDI in India has been steadily increasing over the past few years. In 2022, FDI inflows into India reached a record high of $81.72 billion, up from $74.39 billion in 2021. This is a clear indication of the growing confidence of foreign investors in India's economic prospects.
There are a number of reasons why India has become an attractive destination for foreign investors. One of the key factors is India's large and growing consumer market. With a population of over 1.3 billion, India is one of the world's largest markets for goods and services. This presents a significant opportunity for foreign investors to tap into this vast consumer base and grow their businesses.
Another factor that makes India attractive to foreign investors is its skilled workforce. India is home to a large pool of highly skilled and educated workers, particularly in the fields of IT and engineering. This has made India a popular destination for companies looking to outsource their operations or establish a presence in the country.
The Indian government has also implemented a number of policies aimed at improving the ease of doing business in the country. These policies include the introduction of a single-window clearance system for foreign investors and the simplification of tax laws. These measures have helped to make India a more attractive destination for foreign investors, and have contributed to the growth of FDI in the country.
FDI has played an important role in India's economic growth and development over the past few years. In addition to boosting foreign exchange reserves, FDI has also helped to create jobs, promote innovation, and improve infrastructure in the country. However, there are still challenges that need to be addressed in order to sustain this growth.
One of the main challenges facing India's FDI landscape is the regulatory environment. Despite the government's efforts to simplify the investment process, there are still a number of bureaucratic hurdles that foreign investors need to navigate. This can be a deterrent for some investors, particularly those who are looking for a more streamlined process.
Another challenge is the need for further infrastructure development. While India has made significant progress in this area over the past few years, there is still a long way to go. Improved infrastructure is necessary to support the growth of industries such as manufacturing and logistics, which are key areas of interest for foreign investors.
Overall, India's growing forex reserves are a testament to the country's economic strength and stability. FDI has played a key role in driving this growth, and there are significant opportunities for further investment in the country. With the right policies and infrastructure in place, India has the potential to become a major destination for foreign investment in the years to come.

Reversal of interest rate cycle key to global economic recovery
Tumblr media
Since 2022 the global economy is witnessing a brisk paced interest rate hike across the board. It all started in an effort to contain spiraling inflation contributed by a variety of factors, mainly due to the escalation of the Russian - Ukraine war crisis. Global commodity prices scaled up quickly on back of the sustained war in Ukraine leading to a surge in inflation across the World. Global Central Banks including India's RBI have been hiking interest rates consistently to contain the ill effects of inflation spilling into the economy.
Since last one year, the effects of interest rate hikes to curb inflation have been paying off with the visible signs of inflation easing. In India too, the headline inflation has been cooling off since the last few months owing to relentless rate hikes by the RBI. Inflation and interest rate factors are pretty dynamic in the global economy with surge of inflation is always followed by rise in interest rates and vice versa.
Inflation, interest rates and global economic growth -
Inflation control's major side effect is the toll it takes on the economic growth. Relentless rate hike negatively impacts credit cycle leading to substantial curbing of economic activities as the economic participants wait for the interest rates to cool down. Private sector investments and consumption by people come down substantially during any interest rate hike cycle. Over the last year or so, the upward interest rate cycle has had a major impact on the economic growth across the global economy. Needless to say, many economies have seen their GDP growth rates getting slashed owing to a significant slowdown in their economic activities. In fact some of the economies in Europe and other parts of the World are headed to recession owing to the current macro economic challenges.
That said, the Indian economy has its head high despite being faced with tremendous amounts of inflation over the last several quarters. RBI has done a fantastic job of containing inflation and the resilience of the Indian economy has minimized the ill effects of interest rate hikes during the period. Indian economy remains a lone star in the otherwise shrinking global economic space.  For the global economy to limp back to normalcy, the inflation has to substantially cool from the current levels so as the surging interest rates. Only then the global economy can aim for some meaningful progress in the economic growth in the coming quarters.

May 4, TOR @ BOS, 5-11, Win
Gosh. We just swept the Blue Jays. And pretty decisively at that. Yeah, there was an error from Raffy and a couple of unearned runs. And Ryan Brasier gave up a run. And a couple of 0-fers. But really, those don’t matter as much as scoring a bunch of runs on a starting pitcher who DEFINITELY had our number last season. Kevin Gausman dismantled our lineup in 2022, going 3-0 and striking out 47 in 6 games whilst walking only two. So some trepidation by Sox fans going into last night was certainly understandable. But the Scrappy Rollercoasters of 2023 are in no way the Dumpster Fires of 2022. I’ve not seen a Sox lineup grind out at-bats like this since the Tito era. Am I going to be able to start enjoying these games with out the spectre of doubt creeping into my soul? Maybe not yet. But my goodness, we’ve climbed out of the basement onto the middle of the ladder with only the Rays (who obviously signed a deal with the devil) and the O’s (I mean seriously, wtf?!) above us. So there are plenty of bright sides.
Bello pitched a good game, far more efficient than Gausman and while he gave up four runs only two of them were earned. He struck out five and only walked one. Yeah, he gave up a dinger, but shit happens. Good job, Bello.
The top of the lineup was incendiary. Tapia, covering leadoff for Dugie, went 1-for-4 but still managed to score three runs and knock one in. What a total dude.
Yoshida, I feel, has figured out MLB pitching, going 3-for-5 with a dinger to start the game in the bottom of the first and two more RBIs after that. He scored thrice too.
Justin Turner continues to be good. I don’t mention him much because I’m rubbish, but he’s been a very solid DH. Last night he went 3-for-5 with a RBI and two runs scored.
Devers broke out of his mini slump, as he tends to do, with a dinger, a bunch of RBIs (4!) - he went three-for-five and seemed super locked in.
Jarren Duran took a break from rewatching the new Dune trailer and managed to overcome his homesickness for Arrakis to go 3-for-5 and knock in a run. The only reason he didn’t have more RBIs is that everyone in front of him kept clearing the bases before he had a chance.
Bernadino and Schreiber were lights out in relief with a hit and a walk between them over three innings combined. Considering the lineup they were up against, that is very good.
We won six in a row!
We swept!
The Yankees are in last place! Fuck those guys!

Minnesota Twins-Kansas City Royals Series Preview
3.28.24-Pablo Lopez RHP (0-2) 7.07 ERA Vs. Cole Ragans LHP (0-2) 6.75 ERA
3.30.24-Joe Ryan RHP (2-1) 3.79 ERA Vs. Seth Lugo RHP (2-1) 7.50 ERA
3.31.24-Bailey Ober RHP (1-1) 4.50 ERA Vs. Brady Singer RHP (1-1) 7.31 ERA
The Twins At A Glance- The Twins didn't have the best of Spring Training camps. They struggled to hit at times, the pitching wasn't great, and the bullpen sustained a few injuries. Ryan Jeffers had a good spring with a .346 average along with four home runs to lead the team. Matt Wallner had five hits in the spring, but three of those were home runs. Byron Buxton hit .314 and looks healthy for the first time in years. He was running the bases and playing center field like his old self in camp. There were hardly any jobs to be won on the position player side. Three starting rotation spots remain the same (Lopez, Ryan, Ober), but Louie Varland and Chris Paddack will round it out. The bullpen had too many injuries in camp. Jhoan Duran suffered an oblique injury and his timetable is uncertain. It doesn't appear to be long-term though. Caleb Thielbar dealt with a hamstring injury and is healing from that. Justin Topa has a knee issue and will be out. Griffin Jax will likely be the closer to start the year. Brock Stewart should see high leverage innings. Jay Jackson, Steven Okert, Kody Funderburk, and Jorge Alcala shoudl all see time when the team has a lead. The team is waiting to see how Josh Staumont is with a knee injury. Daniel Duarte will make the team if he cannot pitch.
The Royals At A Glance- The Royals were the most active team in the Central Division this winter. They acquired Michael Wacha, Chris Stratton, Will Smith, Nick Anderson, Garrett Hampson, and Hunter Renfroe. Maybe the biggest signing was extended Bobby Witt Jr. to an eleven-year, $288 million contract. He had a good spring with a .375 average, three homers and seven RBI. The Royals went .500 in spring training. Nick Pratto had a good camp with a .412 average, three homers, and ten knocked in. Michael Massey has been hampered by a back injury as of late and will start the year on the injured list. Michael Wacha should be ready to start the season after injuring his right middle finger on a line drive. Josh Taylor has a left biceps injury, Carlos Hernandez has a sore shoulder, and Jake Brentz is out with a hamstring strain. The bulllpen should be better with the additions of Will Smith, Chris Stratton, and Nick Anderson.
What To Watch For- The Twins went (9-4) against the Royals in 2023. Minnesota swept Kansas City at Kauffman Stadium to start the year then got swept by them in late-July. Pablo Lopez is (3-1) with a 2.70 ERA in four starts against the Royals. Cole Ragans has only faced the Twins once. He threw four shutout innings for the win on August 22, 2022. Joe Ryan is (5-0) with a 1.50 ERA in six career starts against Kansas City. Seth Lugo has a 2.57 ERA in four games against the Twins. Bailey Ober is (0-2) with a 5.23 ERA in seven outings versus the Royals. Brady Singer is (2-6) with a 5.90 ERA in eleven starts against Minnesota. Byron Buxton and Max Kepler each have two career homers off Singer. Baseball is officially back on Thursday. Hopefully the Twins have the same success as they had last year in Kansas City to start the season.

Is the recession coming in 2023?
Market recession is not just limited to GDP and industrial production. It should also include factors like spending, jobs, and income. Simply said, focus on the three P’s – Pronounced, Pervasive and Persistent downturn in the broader measure of those factors.
Each of us has heard about the recession; many of you might have faced its shortcomings while growing up. But are you aware of what economic recession is and why there are signs of unease in the market during these times? With many companies laying off thousands of employees in a row, a stagnant hold on investment growth, and a sudden break on all the multi-million-dollar funding PR, the recession is coming! However, booms and busts are an integral part of the economy. Therefore, the recession is always ‘coming.’
What is economic recession?
In 1974, economist Julius Shiskin defined a thumb rule for recession, which says it is the two consecutive quarters of declining gross domestic product (GDP).
According to the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER), a recession is “a significant decline in economic activity spread across the economy, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP, real income, employment, industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales.”
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI), the highest authority that defines the start and end of a recession, also said, “a recession is widely regarded as a period of prolonged decline in output experienced across much of the economy. To be more concrete, commentators often consider a recession to be in progress when total output (real gross domestic product) has declined for atleast two consecutive quarters.”
Market recession is not just limited to GDP and industrial production. It should also include factors like spending, jobs, and income. Simply said, focus on the three P’s – Pronounced, Pervasive and Persistent downturn in the broader measure of those factors.
Are we facing a market recession?
The World Bank downgraded India’s projected GDP for the current fiscal to 6.5 per cent. On hearing such projections, The International Monetary Fund (IMF) decreased the growth rate of India’s economic forecast for 2022 to 6.8 per cent in comparison to January’s projection of 8.2 per cent and July’s estimate of 7.4 per cent.
Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, the IMF’s economic counsellor, said, “The worst is yet to come, and for many people, 2023 will feel like a recession.” As per IMF’s reports, the global economy has witnessed multiple blows; the upcoming year’s expected financial recession is the result of fatigue from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russia-Ukraine war that drove up the food and energy prices, rise in interest rates, inflation and reputational risk.
How to survive a recession that is ongoing?
Surviving a recession has become a routine part of growing up. There are enough signs that highlight the arrival of recession, and once it comes, it takes up to months or years to go back. Below are some of the basic steps to be taken to survive an ongoing recession.
Be safe from risks – A recession is not the right time to take risks. Therefore, one should be cautious and aware of all the pros and cons before investing during a recession in any business venture.
Be tech-friendly – No matter how low the economy is, the technology sector will always grow. So, never be hesitant to learn new technology or invest in the right type.
Think and decide – Switching jobs during a recession needs the utmost thought. If you are working in a stable company, don’t consider quitting. However, if you are working in a company that might lose its relevance in the market recession, then consider opting for greener options.
Be ready to make hard decisions – No matter how hard a decision is, whether laying off at work, shifting to smaller apartments, or anything else, a recession calls for making tough decisions to fulfill your long-term goals.
Invest in yourself – Surviving a recession becomes easy if you learn to invest in the right type of infrastructure, technology, or people. Also, invest in yourself rightfully by filling your knowledge gaps to the core in the right manner.
Is it safe to invest during a recession?
Although recessions are risky, safe investing will make you grow even during a recession. Taking help from the right investment advisor will enhance your portfolio and ensure to have a risk-managed future. Our investment advisory company, Logical Nivesh, owned by Ashutosh Bhardwaj, SEBI certified research analyst, ensures to provide the best ways of investing during recession. Some of them are listed below –
Cash is the king – Selling premature investments to get cash in the anticipation of a recession might trap you as the markets rise. It is better to shift to well-positioned investments and keep a certain part of the portfolio in cash or highly liquid securities.
Defensive stocks are safe – Defensive stocks in the non-cyclical sectors, like utility stocks and consumer staples stocks, help protect your portfolio even in a recession. People often ask, “is economic recession coming?” and get tensed by it. However, companies that sell essential services and goods, such as shelter, food, electricity, etc., are non-cyclical and less exposed to economic ups and downs.
Buy quality assets – Avoid companies with high-debt loads and prefer quality asset classes to protect your portfolio during any recession. High ROI and low leverage are hallmarks of quality investments.
Prefer dividend stocks – Dividend stocks are the best helping hands for your portfolio during downturns. Even if the stock price falls, the company may keep paying dividends.
Actively managed funds – Surviving a recession can be easy if fund investors shift into more actively managed funds. As per research, most actively managed funds outperformed their peers by 4.5 per cent to 6.1 per cent in down markets after adjusting for risk and expenses.

Is the recession coming in 2023?
IS THE RECESSION COMING IN 2023?

Houston Astros top Philadelphia Phillies 4-1 in Game 6 to win World Series
Yordan Alvarez sixth-inning homer pushed the Astros — then down 1-0 — into the lead at Minute Maid Park.
Tumblr media
Yordan Álvarez blasted a three-run home run to lead the Houston Astros to a 4-1 victory over the visiting Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 of the World Series on Saturday, clinching the home team’s second title in six years.
Álvarez's sixth-inning homer pushed the Astros — then down 1-0 — into the lead at Minute Maid Park, before Christian Vazquez added an RBI single later in the sixth.
Through a translator, Álvarez said in Spanish after the game that the feeling of rounding the bases was amazing.
"When I was rounding second base, I felt the whole stadium moving," he said. "I think it was all the fans."
As Álvarez's 450-foot blast disappeared over the center field wall, Astros starter Framber Valdez jumped and wildly screamed in the dugout as fans in the crowd of 42,948 went into a frenzy waving their orange rally towels.
Houston manager Dusty Baker, who at 73 is now the oldest World Series-winning skipper, said he knew the title was within grasp at that moment.
Tumblr media
Houston previously won it all in 2017 and returned to the Fall Classics of 2019 and 2021, falling to the Washington Nationalsand Atlanta Braves, respectively.
The Astros finished the series winning the final three games after Philadelphia had captured Games 1 and 3.
Cristian Javier and three relievers combined for the second no-hitter in Series history in Game 4.
Justin Verlander finally got his first World Series win in Game 5 thanks to a clutch homer by Jeremy Peña and a leaping catch in the ninth inning by Chas McCormick — the signature defensive moment of this series.
It's the Astros second World Series win since 2017, but some see that victory as tarnished after a Major League Baseball probe found that the team had used centerfield cameras to monitor signs flashed by the opposing catcher during games at Minute Maid Park. Those signals were then relayed to Astros hitters by banging on trashcans.
The sign-stealing scandal cost then-GM Jeff Luhnow and manager A.J. Hinch their jobs.
This World Series win by Houston, in some ways, makes the 2017 scandal look even worse, according to Jacob Pomrenke, chairman of the the Society for American Baseball Research’s (SABR) Black Sox Scandal Research Committee.
“They were always a good team and certainly did not need to do what they did with the cheating scandal,” said Pomrenke, whose panel conducts ongoing analysis and examination of the sport’s greatest scandal, the 1919 Chicago White Sox.
“If you’re going to go to the World Series four time in six years and now win two — with one slightly tainted and one clearly cleaner — it shows they always had the ability to win a championship without getting involved in cheating.”
Many of the team's current key players were nowhere near Houston in 2017.
The team’s two most fearsome power hitters, Álvarez and Kyle Tucker, broke into the big leagues in 2019 and 2018, respectively.
The World Series MVP, Pena, is in his rookie campaign at shortstop, having taken over from Carlos Correa, a face of the scandal who left for the Minnesota Twins in free agency before 2022.
Tumblr media
Houston hired Baker as manager after the scandal and the universally respected skipper now has his first World Series ring after successful but title-less stints with the San Francisco Giants, Washington Nationals, Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs.
His 2,093 regular season managerial wins are tops of any skipper not in the Hall of Fame. Before Saturday night, the Cooperstown hopeful Baker also had the most wins of any manager without a World Series ring.
The Astros’ triumph on Saturday might have also exorcised Baker’s notable Game 6 ghosts.
He was at the helm of the Giants in 2002 when they lost the World Series in seven games to the Anaheim Angels. The American League champs staged an improbable rally in Game 6 to force that final game.
