i'm a tumblr whitey who doesn't even know who drake and kendrick lamar are (an exagerration, i know drake did the hotline miami song wtf ever) but i listen to lots of hip hop i just don't listen to new music, takes me so long to decide if i really like some music/bands/artists that by the time i get into them they're old or already have a discography to pore through. as a baby white boy i had some cognitive dissonance, i loved Fresh Prince but thought other rap was all violent nasty stuff, maybe that's kinda fair since like Kid Friendly rap was his brand

but uh in middle school friends got me into Gorillaz, high school i discovered MF Doom via Danger Doom his collab album with Danger Mouse via Adult Swim, or I discovered that album at least. Brother got me into Wu-Tang which got me into Tupac and Biggie and Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg meanwhile emo side of me got into Linkin Park and Beastie Boys which Linkin Park got me into Jay-Z via the banger collab album Collision Course, got myself into Eminem at some point prolly cause of Weird Al lmao which got me to 50 Cent and Dr Dre. Somehow stumbled on Dilated Peoples which nobody talks about but it was chiller more socially conscious stuff with R&B samples that got me into Fugees, Tribe Called Quest, Talib Kwali.

idk if you wanna get into hip hop just get into hip hop its easy

try things, listen to people, eat glue

just don't only listen to what's on the radio
