Suddenly reminded of how 12+ years ago, my granpa’s landline was 1 digit off of the local big hardware store, so half the calls he got were when someone misdialed and got him instead of the store. However, he was a) very patient and b) a literal rocket scientist with a special interest in DIY housebuilding and electrical work, so if somebody called up with a project, he’d just... answer all their questions and give them advice on planning, tools, materials, and safety. Wonder how many ‘70s-’00s patios and renovations and repairs were based on my granpa’s advice and some hapless Canuck Tire associate with no idea who “that helpful old guy on the phone” was.
