Gareth is great (when wasn't he?) and gets some of thenmost affecting moments in the play#in particular a monologue he has near the dead centre in which he recounts a childhood encounter with a relative suffering some unspecified#mental illness. it's a wonderfully written‚ beautifully played bit of theatre‚ as his adult self seems to be reliving the disturbing#meeting over once again‚ the memory evoked by the action of the episode: a question of whether some disturbing events are a product of a#sick mind‚ or have a supernatural basis. that question is most pressing on Gareth's character‚ and it is he (although ostensibly an outside#observer) who seems most troubled and most shaken by the close of the tale.#and he does all that while sporting outrageous facial hair and STILL sells it. a true professional
