WIP Wednesday

Here’s a bit from  Baz and Simon’s second date which will appear in The Longest Time, the sequel to PTA:

Simon

We walk around, holding hands, looking at the flowers and talking. Baz likes the dramatic ones. There's one little plant that's all bare except for some oval, intensely purple berries, and a big rangy thing with blossoms the size of my hand with crinkly white petals and fuzzy yellow centers, and a line of shrubs that tower over us in clouds of rust-red fluff. He knows the names of all of them, too – I think Baz likes knowing things. I like the ones that are smaller and sweeter. There are some leafy stalks topped with bright pink four-petaled flowers and another thing with big flat clusters of tiny little pinkish-white blossoms. He knows the names of mine, too, and for some reason that makes me melt inside.

I’m basing the garden they’re going to on an actual one in my city, and I went there for research and inspiration. The photo above is of the berries Baz likes (flax lily aka Dianella tasmanica).

I’m not sure who’s already gone, and I’m a little loopy so I may forget people, so forgive me if I err in either direction.
