how have i played through the beginning of majora's mask so many times and yet every time i start anew i'm shocked and confused that link is a deku shrub for the first cycle

#i've never even made it that far into the game (i don't think i've ever left clocktown lmao)#so pretty much the ONLY part i've played is when link is a deku shrub #and every time i'm like. wtf is this????#majora's mask #legend of zelda #also was there always a notebook with information on all the quests and people and schedule?? i have no memory of this
