Thank you so much for gathering this information, you are providing a valuable resource for hanfu enthusiasts! I love the sumptuous cuts and fabrics, but as someone often involved in physical labor, it isn't realistic for me. Are there any examples of clothing that might be worn by country folk who have to work in the fields and tend animals?
Hi! Thanks for the question, and sorry for taking ages to reply! (image via)
Tumblr media
Yes, there is hanfu suitable for country folk who have to work in the fields and tend animals. Historically, such people would have worn a type of unisex hanfu called 裋褐/shuhe. Shuhe goes by a few other names, including 短打/duanda, 短褐/duanhe, and 竖褐/shuhe. They all refer to a two-piece set of attire composed of a cross-collar top that extends to the knees, coupled with tied trousers. Both pieces were typically made out of coarse cloth. It is the basis of almost all underclothing, usually the clothing worn under armor, and the casual outfit of commoners and laborers (x). This outfit was generally worn by people doing manual labor, such as farm work, and by martial artists (x).
I wrote about shuhe in my post on casual/adventurer-type hanfu here. For more information on shuhe, I recommend checking out the following links:
Wikipedia article on 衫裤/shanku

Shuhe-making tutorial
A few images of shuhe in historical art & modern day (1, 2, 3, 4):

Shuhe understandably isn't as popular as other "fancier" hanfu styles, but there are still some available on Taobao, including the following:
Farmer-style shuhe for spring & autumn from 華夏节奏 (x):

2. Ming-style ramie shuhe from 淮边筱竹 (x):

3. Tailor-made Ming-style shuhe from 淮边筱竹 (x):

4. Ming-style quilted cotton winter shuhe from 淮边筱竹 (x):

For more references, please see my shuhe and commoners hanfu tags.
If anyone has more info/recs, please share! ^^
Hope this helps!

hello!! i love seeing your fatshion and fat art posts on my dash :]) they really brighten my day! how do you find these posts? I've gone back to the original source of them and they aren't often tagged with "plus size" or anything :o
Hi, I'm glad you enjoy the posts. I've created many strategies to find fat positive content on this website since, sadly, fat representation is very difficult to find.
The easiest strategy is to search popular fat positive tags, like "fatshion" or "fat positive." However, most people don't tag fat representation, and many fat-related tags are overrun by thinspo blogs, fat fetishists, and fatphobes.
Sometimes I search "plus size" and another word to try to find specific posts. For example, I queued posts with a Valentine's Day theme for Valentine's Day. One of the strategies I used for that was to search "plus size pink," "plus size red," "plus size lovecore," "plus size valentines day," etc. I have to get creative like this when trying to find content of specific groups of fat people. As another example, when I want to find content for fat Asian people, I may search "plus size hanfu," "plus size jfashion," "Vietnamese fatshion," and any combination of words involving fatness and usually either a specific cultural clothing or country. If I just use normal search terms, I likely won't find anything.
Sometimes I look at popular tags like "artists on tumblr" and scroll through hundreds of posts to find a single drawing of a fat person. Usually said drawing didn't use any tags for the fat representation. This strategy is extremely based on luck and will involve spending way more time before seeing any posts of fat people, but this is one of the few ways to find posts of fat representation that weren't tagged with words related to fatness. What I would give just to get people to tag their posts of fat representation, you have no idea. Even if no one else started drawing fat people, there would be a mountain of more fat positive posts to reblog if those posts were simply tagged in a way to make them possible for fat positive blogs to find.
Some tags are more likely to include fat people, like tags for Mermay. Fat people are barely represented, but some artists are willing to be slightly inclusive when drawing mermaids. The likelihood of size inclusivity also goes up with events like Mermay since some of the artists who participate will draw a different mermaid design for every day of the month. It's hard to not draw a single fat mermaid design when a person is drawing 31 mermaids.
When I find an old fat positive or fatshion blog, I'll usually comb through the entire blog for posts. Not only do I find posts that way, but I also usually find other blogs with posts I can also queue. This ends up with me going through a chain of old blogs and why you'll see us post content that was made anywhere from 5 to a whopping 12 years ago. I usually keep at least one post from each of these blogs in my queue at all times to remind me to continue searching the blogs for fat positive content. I've had some posts in the queue of Fatphobia Busters for two years because I keep them as reminders for what blogs I need to search. For every post we share, I try to thoroughly look through the blog of the op for any other scraps of fat positivity I can queue. This is another reason why some posts stay in the queue for months or years. Since fat representation on this website is abysmal, I usually only put posts at the front of the queue that were either made by blogs I've already combed, blogs that still have posts in the queue so I can search those blogs a different day, or if the post was queued by Mod Squirrel. I don't have a lot of energy to search blogs, which is why those posts stay in the queue for so long. That's also why you may notice certain blogs being posted a lot for a period of time—they're blogs I'm safe to post without missing any content I could have queued.
Tumblr has a pretty terrible search function, and I've basically never been recommended a blog by Tumblr that actually posted fat representation. However, the one helpful function Tumblr has actually been good at is the similar posts section called "More like this," which looks like this on desktop:
Tumblr media
It's to the right of whatever post you look at on a blog. On mobile, it looks like this:
Tumblr media
I looked at the same post for both of these screenshots. In the "More like this" (or "More posts like this") section, Tumblr will usually include other posts by the user, posts by other blogs who interact with the user, posts with similar tags, etc. etc. For whatever reason, I'll sometimes be able to use this Tumblr function to find more fat representation. As an example, Tumblr showed me the same grayscale drawing of a fat person in both of these screenshots. That drawing was posted by an entirely different blog and with no tags related to fatness or fat positivity at all, but the "More like this" Tumblr function is the only time that Tumblr realizes "Oh, for the past five years of running and modding for fat positive blogs, you've actually wanted to see posts of fat people and not all of the posts of thin people I've suggested to you all this time?"
Sometimes I'll try my luck with certain fandoms when I know the media the fandom is for actually has a fat character or if I know that the fandom is somewhat size inclusive. There are times where an artist who draws the media's fat character also has fat OCs or draws other fat people. For instance, I'll probably have more luck finding artists who draw fat people in the Magnus Archives fandom than I will in a fandom for a media that's very fatphobic or pretends thinness is an art style, like Hazbin Hotel.
If I find a fat person who posts selfies or photography of themself, I'll look at their tags to try to decipher what tags they use for posting those photos. They may have a specific tag just for their photos, like "my face," or they may tag all of their photos with a tag like "ootd," "melanin," "cosplay," "black girl magic," "lolita," "jfashion," etc. It's also important to make sure not to share any posts that have tags like "do not reblog." If a post has the tag "personal," I'll usually either skip it or ask the user if they're okay with the post being reblogged. This is especially important for text posts about fatphobia since sometimes a person just wanted to vent and doesn't want their post to be shared. Whenever I'm in doubt, I write a reply on the post and ask the op if they're okay with me reblogging it.
On some occasions, I'll see the url or tags of someone on our posts that makes me think they may have more fat positive content. When that is the case, I'll queue posts that a follower made. Said posts are usually selfies or text posts. Sometimes this means queuing a post they made about a specific product they sell on Etsy that otherwise isn't accessible for fat people, or this could mean queueing a well-written rant that they've okayed for people to reblog.
That's basically the gist of most of my strategies I can think of. You can see that running and modding for fat positive blogs involves a lot of work and strategizing just to find content. But you can help make it easier. If you:
Tag your posts of fat representation with fat positive tags
Send posts you find of fat people to fat positive blogs
Tell artists who draw fat people to tag their art with fat positive tags
Ask artists who only draw thin people to make their art size inclusive
Make posts about fatphobia and tag those posts with tags like "fatphobia" to make them searchable
Or even just reblog posts from fat positive blogs to help spread them and encourage those OPs to keep representing fat people
By doing those things, you help us a lot and also help more fat people see themselves in the media they look at.
If you do tag your posts for this purpose, I strongly suggest using more than just tags like "body positivity." That tag on Tumblr is full of mostly porn, thin people, and celebrations of weight loss, so I've given up on looking at that tag at all and would assume many other fat positive blogs don't use that tag either.
-Mod Worthy

ROMAN EMPIRE POLL!!!!
Tumblr media
OKAY so we know beyond a shabbadabbadoo that Jet Black is absolutely a Roman Empire Stan Dad™️. [Beyond just History Channel too - I firmly believe that man has a thorough understanding of the philosophy of Marcus Aurelius and share most of his beliefs].
But what about the rest of the crew? What’s their ‘Roman Empire’?
Let’s start with Faye because ladies first or something
Tumblr media
FAQ:
Serial Killers/True Crime category also includes things like the kidnapping of Jon Benet Ramsey, Casey Anthony killing her daughter and getting off on a technicality, Chicago Tylenol murders, the Unibomber, feral children, mysterious disappearances, etc.
Ghosts/Paranormal category includes aliens, cryptids, demons, reincarnation, ESP, and David Lynch himself
Chinese Hanfu Pieces might just be a me thing but I feel like Faye may just sit there and hyperfixate on Dream of the Red Chamber. This doesn't just have to mean Chinese, but any East-Asian period drama. Also probably modern K-Dramas because we all know Faye would eat that shit up.
Also I tried to keep it as non-pop culture and more-history oriented as possible. So I intentionally didn't include musicians or movies or TV outside of period pieces.
Spike, Ed, and possibly others soon to follows! (Let me know who to do!!!)

Thank you so much for your help last time! I uh... Appear to have misplaced another two videos I was convinced I'd reblogged from you. One is from a relatively recent reblog spree and the other I thought I had reblogged ages ago but apparently not??
The first one, that will probably be easier to find for you, was a girl saying that all cute young girls like wearing cute dresses or sundresses (don't recall the exact word) in the summer, so she puts one on and then starts doing martial arts moves while in it.
The second is a bit more difficult to describe. It's a girl, and I'm not sure if also a man, walking through what looks like an open hallway in an ancient building (?) and the main point is her, or them, wearing hanfu from different eras that transition as they walk. I think it started in the Warring States period, I'm sure it included the Spring and Autumn era, and I believe it stops at Tang dynasty.
Thank you so much for your help in advance!
Btw do you have a tag for ancient makeup videos? It's something I find super fascinating
Here's the first video you described.
The second one I'm not so sure about, but I have a #hanfu and #guzhuang tag you can check out (there is a lot of crossover but the video you described would definitely be #hanfu). #Guzhuang also includes #feitian stuff and fantasy dress (or hair/makeup) while #hanfu is more historical leaning. Those are my only tags for those kind of videos.
I don't post about makeup specifically. The only two I can think of related to makeup are here and here.
A list of tags I often use on this blog can be found linked on my pinned post (tagged accounts list is a little out of date tho). I can accommodate requests for content warning tags but will only add category tags if I feel like it.

— a submission for 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐋𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑'𝐒 𝐉𝐎𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐘 collab hosted by @haithamuse!
Tumblr media
◇ characters ◇ zhongli ft. al haitham
◇ tags ◇ selfship coded, be respectful; don’t like don’t read, lil blurb at the end written from zhongli’s pov (third person), zhongli x meirin (@/zhongrin), al haitham x esther (@/haithamuse), fluff, married couple shenanigans, academic rivals / enemies-to-lovers shenanigans, writing centered around the teahouse!au
◇ a/n ◇ so... a little background (or more like a mini story here lol)... i first discovered yuan yang (which is basically coffee mixed with tea + milk) when i first studied abroad. no idea if that was even the correct pinyin but that's what i saw on the menu so i'm going with it lol absolutely did not like it at first bc it tasted weird. but then i got a second cup… then a third… then a fourth…….. this is how addiction starts kids
while it’s not my absolute favorite and i don’t normally go for it unless i'm specifically craving for it, i thought it was a fitting title for these teahouse-related shenanigans and the 'implication' that coffee (me) and tea (zhongli) make a good drink when mixed somehow hahah
lastly, i had so much fun with this, esther!!! thank you for hosting this lovely collab therefore allowing me to have an excuse to write about my selfships more yay ALSO happy birthday!!! 🎂🎉 i hope you enjoyed reading this silly self-indulgent chonker of a writing and liked the little 🎁 i included at the very end <3

❦ 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧𝐬 ❦
zhongli learns to brew coffee from me and i learn to brew tea from him. it’s as much of a fruitful exchange as our regular bonding activity (read: him telling me stories and traditions of olden liyue and the art of tea making as i stare dreamily at the way his lips move and the soothing lilt of his voi- ok i'll stop now-).
i might have watched a little too intensively as zhongli tamps the coffee grounds because??? the veins on his hands???? they pop even more????? hskdjskdjlsdjldfhdkshd
oh that note, as he watched me try to measure the tea leaves to brew for the first time, he realized that i have a small mole at the base of my pinky. it has since then become one of his favorite spots to kiss.
zhongli mostly dresses in hanfu whenever tending to the teashop because i said i love seeing him in them it matches the aesthetic of the traditional-esque place. his hair is either down or braided with a few fresh flowers slipped in (courtesy of me hehe).
that being said, he still helps out in the funeral parlor from time to time! the parlor does need its best consultant and hu tao is practically one of our many granddaughters at this point…
if the patrons hear a loud “NAINAI YOUR FAVORITE GRANDDAUGHTER HAS ARRIVED!” they know the tea house is about the get rowdy lol
“director hu, kindly refrain from saying such things outloud, there has been a misunderstanding spreading in liyue saying about us being secretly adepti couple whose descendants are living all around the harbor-” “now now, yeye, is that how you talk to your loveliest, adorable-est granddaughter?” “……….. *sigh*”
xiao drops by every now and then because zhongli insists, and i know he obeyed because it’s the one and only rex lapis’ request, but i hope someday he does it of his own volition - that is, because he actually enjoys visiting us.
ever since we got married, he also adores selecting traditional dresses for me to wear (seems like menogias taught him a thing or two, bless him), adding them to my wardrobe collection wordlessly and only smiling when i confront him about it while wearing said new clothes. he knows my fashion sense is lacking that 80% of the time i’d rather spend my energy doing something else than clothes shopping so he takes that matter into his own hands!
lowkey also because people who know him would take one glance at the geometric patterns and color schemes of said clothes and immediately go ‘wait those patterns and accessories look familiar… oh, of course, that’s unmistakably zhongli xiansheng’s wife-’
scarves aren’t really a popular fashion choice in liyue but whenever the weather gets a little too cold, i would happily ‘bundle up’ with a self-heating, occasionally purring, golden-brown colored ‘scarf’ with a scale-like pattern around my neck.
(no, you most certainly did not see it move. move along now.)
vortex vanquisher is mounted behind the reception desk’s wall as a decoration. you know. just in case. :)
the teahouse has a few private rooms which were built over time as we were able to expand out/up. they all have different themes and we have names for (almost) all of them; ranging from liyue’s local specialties to subtle references of zhongli’s adepti friends. some popular ones include:
═ 𝑐𝑜𝑟 𝑙𝑎𝑝𝑖𝑠 room
orange/gold themed. a geologist’s dream. has a massive display case of a collection of raw cor lapis rocks along with some pretty pebbles. the pieces of furniture inside the room are made of charred sandbearer wood, the darkened brown making it a perfect complement to the bright and shiny cor lapis decors and embellishments. i think this is probably our most expensive room from the patrons’ view… (actually it isn’t, since zhongli found and mined those ‘expensive’ gems himself...)
═ 𝑔𝑙𝑎𝑧𝑒 𝑙𝑖𝑙𝑦 room
soft blue/grey themed. the cozy room couples as a homage to guizhong. the bell used to call a waiter/waitress is a close replica of the cleansing bell. we also have a guzheng on display. madam ping loves this room and would help to take care of the guzheng and even play the instrument for us sometimes.
═ 𝑐𝑟𝑎𝑛𝑒 room
white/sky blue themed. there’s a huge crane art piece hung at the center of the back of the room’s walls. it's filled with a number of amusing contraptions and blueprints that to normal people's eyes, look like some kind of abstract painting. a room heavily inspired by cloud retainer’s aesthetics. most of the adepti who visit us would use this room (much to its original muse’s annoyance) because it’s located the furthest from the public seating area.
═ the 𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 / first private room
aka the ‘confession room’. we have no idea how that label got there….... actually. no, we do. one time, a regular patron asked us to book the room so he can propose to his lover. since they’re a close friend of ours, we agreed to help him plan and decorate the whole thing…. and it made headlines in the local papers somehow. rumors then begin to spread that if you go to that specific room to propose you’ll definitely be accepted and your marriage will be blessed…
honestly, there’s nothing too special about the room. it was our very first private room that we intended to use for our private break room, so it was built smaller than the others. the decorations lean towards simple and sophisticated, and we had some of our favorite trinkets scattered all around the little area.
legend says that sometimes when the shop isn’t busy, lucky patrons would be able to hear a beautiful duet of a flute and an erhu coming from the room. though they’re not at a level of a professional musician, the melody brings peace and warmth to the wary hearts…

“mei, my beloved, i’m here!!!!”
zhongli looks up from his cup of tea, blinking slowly as he tries to register the foreign-sounding voice and the words in the loud greeting. while the endearment was a familiar title attached to his wife (her close friends tend to be rather forward and affectionate, from what he observed), it didn’t sit right with him when it came from a stranger. who on earth are this lady and her companion?
as if registering his alertness, a specific 'decoration' lightly vibrates from its spot on the wall. yet it stilled the moment he heard a familiar gasp and cry of happiness from his side.
“esther!!!”
hugs, pleasantries, and excited arrows of questions are swiftly exchanged. zhongli watches the two with a soft smile before glancing at the woman’s companion, who gave him a stiff nod. their two guests seemed to be about the same age... perhaps they were lovers? no, they seemed a little too distant for that. but there was something between them - that, he could at least tell.
mei seems to have just noticed the extra company too, for she was slightly taken aback and quietly relayed the question to the woman with a confused expression and a timid, “and this is…?”
“oh, he’s just, you know, some guy.”
“’some guy’?” his wife tilts her head in question, eyes observing the man’s attire (momentarily he feels like berating the young man for dressing up so provocatively - that is until he remembered his beloved’s remarks the other day about his choice in his archon-wear), “….. oh! is he the ‘al haitham’ you’ve been writing to me in our letters-”
“MEI.”
“hm?” the silvery green strand of hair on top of said male’s head twitches as if it was a whole being by itself, “what’s this? you write about me to your friend? i’m most flattered.”
with a pair of fiery eyes and both hands on her hips, this ‘esther’ girl turned towards her friend(?), “oh, you’re most welcome. i told her about how aggravating and insufferable you are, mr.i-have-perfect-scores-on-all-my-subjects.”
“truly? and if i am so aggravating and insufferable as you say, then pray tell, what stopped you from ditching me back in sumeru city?”
“because, unfortunately, the stupid archaic liyuean language’s professor paired me up with you of all people for this project!! and there’s no way in hell i’m letting you sit idle while i do most of the work! mind you, i can definitely achieve a perfect score by myself, but the entire rainforest section of sumeru will burn to the ground before i wilfully let you coattail my achievements!”
“based on the most recent test, i doubt you could. unless your definition of a ‘perfect score’ is a mere 99.8%, to which i would have to refute, seeing as i managed to achieve a 100%.”
“oh my god i’m about to pop a blood vessel- then what about the previous test before that, huh? did you forget who got a 100% AND an extra credit for that, you arrogant little-”
“ahem. dear, why don’t you escort your guests to the glaze lily room? i’ll bring you some tea shortly,” zhongli effortlessly moves to stand behind his wife, hand comfortingly placed on her back as he smiles politely at the two. there is nothing but warmth in his gestures, but they both had clammed up, suddenly feeling like misbehaving grandchildren who were being scolded by their grandfather.
his beloved, on the other hand, appears to have found this scene amusing, despite not being one to be comfortable with conflicts in general.
“yeah, good idea- by the way, this is my husband, zhongli,” had he was in his adeptus form, his tail would’ve thumped against the floor at the proud tone in her introduction. instead, he settled with a gentle nod in this mortal body, “’li, this is esther - the one from sumeru - if you remember me talking about her-”
“of course i do. i remember everything you tell me.”
“that you do,” she softened, hand coming up to caress his jaw lightly, and he resisted the urge to follow the warmth as it retreated, touch too fleeting and brief to his liking, “i’ll wait for you in the room, then?”
“take as long as you need to catch up with your friend. i can watch the store.”
“that’s alright, we can close the shop for a bit. i want you to get acquainted with her and this… friend of hers. besides, didn’t you two say you’re here for... what, some liyuean language project? i’m quite sure my very knowledgeable husband would have some valuable input on that.”
mirth fills her expression, and the playful nudge of her elbow onto his sides made him chuckle. way to take a jab at his age, he mused.
“i am in no way as knowledgeable as the esteemed students of the sumeru akademiya, but-”
“is that true? you know this language?”
the former archon raises his eyebrows as the two men exchanged glances. though people might mistake the sudden challenge as arrogance, he can clearly see the thirst for knowledge in the clear green-red tinted eyes.
a man defined by and attracted to competency.
… ah, so that’s how it is.
“i may be a little rusty, you must understand. they are rarely used nowadays, so i am quite out of practice.”
the fingers seeking out a smaller set beside him moves in an unconscious motion, but the way the daintier appendages curl around his almost reflexively made a genuine smile bloom on his expression, “if what little of my knowledge can help, then i will gladly extend my assistance, especially to my darling wife’s treasured friends.”
“oh you,” she snorts and rubbed his arm with her free hand, “he’s being humble. you’ll see.”
“you flatter me, dear.”
esther’s grin only widened at the interaction. she gives her friend a wink and an abstract motion with her fingers, “handsome, humble, and smart? you better keep a leash on this one.”
zhongli sneaked a glance at the geo choker on her wife’s neck before moving to her dark-colored eyes. redness colors the softness of her cheek as their gaze met, and the corner of his lips twitch threateningly. she bashfully runs from his gaze to roll her eyes at her friend, before grabbing her shoulders to steer them both towards the inner hallway of the private rooms.
“hush, you. come on now, off we go!”
as the two girls launched into an excited series of chatters, zhongli exchanged one last respectful nod with the other akademiya student and silently watched as he trailed behind the two. he doesn't miss the way al haitham's tense posture lessened, the edges of his sharp eyes softening as he specifically observed his friend. it’s a familiar look. one that he’s seen several times throughout the course of his long life.
zhongli chuckles as he starts preparing the osmanthus tea for their guests, all the while thinking about the matching clothes they would have to get tailored for in the future, when the invitation to attend the older version of those akademiya students’ matrimony event inevitably reaches their mailbox.
....
hell give it a few years. they seemed like a rather stubborn pair.

My thoughts on Shang Simla
Thanks @thebleedingwoodland for tagging me in their posts here and here. Unfortunately I don't have much time atm, probably can't contribute much to the discussion. I'll try my best to explain my thoughts in the easiest and quickest way.
First, I never held much expectation for EA. Shang Simla is more like a friendly gesture to include Asian/Oriental cultures into Sims3 world. However, I never regard Shang Simla as a Chinese world, let alone any specific period. The minute I saw the torii ⛩️ とりい icon, as a Taiwanese visiting Japan many times, I knew Shang Simla would be a hybrid of most ancient (North East) Asian cultures even before sending my sims there. However, I don't think people back in 2009 had such high awareness or recognition for other cultures as we do today. They simply projected their impressions for the eastern world onto Shang Simla. So I would rather take this as a chance to introduce the right knowledge to simmers from other parts of the world.
What EA tried to present in Shang Simla is an ancient world, so honestly I don't blame them to provide the braid hairstyle from Qing dynasty. Yes, it is a symbol of repression, but it is also a historical fact. That's what people during that period of time would look like.
As for the outfit, honestly I think it's too much to ask, considering its 4000 year-long history and all the complicated details.
Tumblr media
Yep, and that just covers the most basic types, there are numerous variations based on the occasion/age/social status/occupation...etc.
If you're wondering where those fancy outfits you saw on TV drama or games are, I would say they belong to the fantasy genre, like:
Tumblr media
Note: for illustration only.
If you want to create a sims3 story with solid historical background, not fantasy or fictional, DON'T use these sources as your reference. Try googling artworks from that period, or related historical drama, those authentic ones.
Also, it's really important to notice the difference between Hanfu 漢服, Wafuku わふく and Hanbok한복. I'm no expert at these fields so I would only provide here the most basic types to give you a rough idea:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Ts3 CC creators I recommend include but not limit to:
Chinese: M&T 模拟人生单纯蛋糕店(M&T SimsCakeStore)/ 清霜童子@qingshuangtongzi
Japanese: kewai-dou / @m0m0-ka / @murfeelee / noiranddarksims
Korean: @amethyst-sims / ghostsyj
As for the martial arts outfit, the difference lies more on the sport events than nationality since there are corresponding uniforms now. For instance:
top to bottom: Judo柔道 / Karate空手道 / Taekwondo 태권도 / Tai Chi 太極 / Kung fu 功夫裝
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Of course, the sleeve-less kungfu clothes EA provided is a big no-no, a modernized version apparently.
Tumblr media
Last but not least, during the ancient period, Chinese culture had great influence over the neighboring countries including Korea and Japan. That's why you may find it very difficult to tell which from which sometimes. Hope the illustrations above can help.
To be honest, I rarely let my sims visit Shang Simla. It's a weird world to me. Too much nonsense I'm afraid. Most of the time, I tend to build my own version, with specific period and custom content to make it more authentic and realistic.
Oh and DRAGON! Almost forgot. I think this is simply because THERE ARE TWO KINDS of DRAGON. One spits fire while the other controls the rain, basically two different species I believe :D
Western dragon VS Eastern dragon
Tumblr media
Gonna stop right here before making this post too long to read. Let me know if there's any questions. 😘💜
*Correction- Shang Simla is supposed to be a modern Chinese world, not an ancient one as I previously thought. I don't think of it as a modern world probably because, as we all know, modern life for Chinese people are not that different from the western one. In fact, Shang Simla should look much more westernized/modernized to reflect reality, even for a rural area. Besides, in the modern times only farmers wear bamboo hats. I can tell which hanfu style implies which period easily but I just can't really identify what period Shang Simla should belong to. To me, it's just a modern world with some randomly chosen Chinese / Asian / oriental elements.

random things about me
tagged by my darling @bettsfic! and someone else, i forget whomst.
favourite color: turquoise and purple. no i will not choose
last song: the Paris acoustic set version of "Cornelia Street"—it's so incredible y'all. by the third chorus Tay is transformed into a rock star
last movie: Spring Fever, with Qin Hao and Chen Sicheng—my little review is here. an amazing indie film. Qin Hao in drag! i think the last movie I saw in a theatre was Lost in the Stars? or Barbie maybe.
Tumblr media
currently watching: just finished the Thousand Autumns donghua and i'm still not sold on Yan Wushi, though Shen Qiao has my whole heart (and Wu Lei did an amazing job voice acting! i couldn't even recognize him). I'm on episode 4 of Mysterious Lotus Casebook but i might take a break to re-start a DMBJ series i haven't finished yet, either TLT2 or TLT2.5. OR possibly Mystic Nine (honestly just because i miss Zhang Rishan after Sha Hai).
currently reading: Sha Po Lang. ugh it's SO GOOD. i want volume 2 NOW. Cheng Geng is NOT HAVING any of this your-highness stuff.
currently working on: my 20k Guardian wip (yet another ye olde Haixing fix-it, but it wouldn't leave me alone) and a misbegotten piece of pingxie pwp filth. i'm trying to clear the decks so i can go back in december to my angsty iron triangle epic (but it's so sad!) and hopefully new heihua as well. though i still need prompts for that!
currently obsession: always the tomb boys—and that somehow includes Li Lianhua and Fang Duobing, because honestly it never gets less weird seeing Xiaoge and Wu Xie in hanfu and long hair.
Tumblr media
and hey, if you want to do this, please consider yourself TAGGED!

Dear Author, is there a list of hairstyles you could share that fit the setting of your work? I am trying to imagine how my mc would keep her hair, but I would very much appreciate some references! I would also ask if we will be able to pick a hairstyle in-game, or if that's something you left our so we can run with our imagination. Thank you for answering and helping me out, I hope you're keeping well :)
I will leave exact hair-style up to the reader, since writing an exhaustive list would exclude far more than I can include, and flavor text will mostly only pertain to hair length.
As for refs, I'd recommend looking up wuxia or gufeng hairstyles! Here is a google image I pulled up as an example (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
Tumblr media
You can also check my fashion tag for more inspiration too~
Also, again, I've always been more about aesthetics over historical accuracy for gufeng/wuxia/xianxia media, so if you want more historically accurate hairstyles, there are a few other hanfu blogs who have great info!
I hope you stay well too, Nonnie! <3

This is for East Asian hairstyles in general but idk where else to ask this(and this does include traditional Chinese fashion): How much of women’s (or men’s though I would guess mostly women) hairstyles was composed of wigs? Feel free to just answer this in relation to Chinese hairstyles specifically if answering for any others deviates too much from the blog purpose.
Hi! Thanks for the question, and sorry for taking ages to reply!
Tumblr media
Historically, it was quite common for Chinese women to use wigs to create their hairstyles, as many historical hairstyles were not meant to be done with real hair -- although I don't know the specific percentage of women who did so. Wigs became prevalent in China starting from the Spring and Autumn period (771-476 BC) when they were popularized by upper-class women, and were widely used by women until the 20th century, when hairstyles became simpler. Wigs could be made from real human or animal hair, other fibers, paper, or wood.
The following posts/links discuss wigs in Chinese history in more detail, please check them out!:
Historical wigs (with images of artifacts) by @fouryearsofshades
My post addressing the use of fake hair in historical Chinese hairstyles with more info/images by @fate-magical-girls
Specific wigs during the Southern dynasties and Ming dynasty by @chinesehanfu
The history of wigs in China by New Hanfu
The history of Chinese hairpieces by Five Thousand Years
Chinese traditional hairstyles & hairpieces by National Clothing
As for men, they typically put their hair into a bun and encased it in some kind of covering (cloth, hat, cap, headdress), so there was no need for them to use wigs. However, as I explained in this post, some men would insert a wig/towel/other material inside their hat/cap to give it more structure.
To this day, wigs/hairpieces/extensions are necessary and commonly used in creating traditional Chinese hairstyles.
For more information and references, please see my wigs tag for all posts related to wigs and hairpieces.
If anyone has more info on this topic, please share! ^^
Hope this helps! (image via)

Intro?
Hi! I'm Tav! (known to some of you more commonly as Leaf). Also for clarity, I've been Tav for the past ten years, so I was here first or something. I'm a part time plant on the internet, who is currently doing a PhD in Plant Biology. My educational training is in the agricultural sciences so I occasionally reblog stuff about that as well. The agricultural training is why I'm a plant btw. My plantsona is a Golden Barrel Cactus bc I Commit To The Bit. If you ask me how I can type on the internet I will tell you its magic! I occasionally write fic on ao3 here and mostly reblog whatever I come across that's grabbed my attention. You can find what I'm writing/working on by checking out my writing which should be relatively up to date.
I also do multifandom exchange which is really cool! Feel free to send asks re: multifandom exchange related stuff!
Right now my fandom of interest is CQL/MDZS. This is a Nie Brothers stan blog which is probably how most of you (who don't know me from other places already) found me? I think? If that's not the case WELCOME. Here we love and support NHS (blorbo) and NMJ (Da-ge).
HOWEVER while I don't always Naruto on main, I am a plant who has been writing Naruto fic for like, 6+ years now so occasionally there's Naruto on main. That's how it is here. A list of relevant tags that I keep for blog organization:
art by friends - when I originally started reblogging art to this blog ages ago, this was mostly populated by reblogging the art of friends, which is why my general art tag is now "art by friends" even if I don't know the artist bc it FEELS WEIRD to have a "art by friends" and "art by strangers I don't know on the internet"
writer memes - where I keep my collection of pain inducing memes about writers that I relate to. Other writer related stuff can be found in: writer stuff, writer woes, or fandom stuff. laugh rule - not necessarily memes, just stuff I laughed at that I can be counted on to have a good time looking at again.
tav watches cdrama - my running list of gifsets/cdrama rambling from dramas that I have watched/am currently watching!
meta and my meta will have related things that are meta that I either want to engage with or that I wrote. Some of it probably doesn't actively belong in meta but it became too serious a shitpost for me to like, not put it there.
I will occasionally reblog hanfu under a variety of tags! Your best bet is probably to search my blog for hanfu, women's hanfu, hanfu accessories, or aesthetics to find photographs of people posing in GREAT clothing. Aesthetics also includes photosets of cool places that I like.
I have a large running list of relationship tags that are simply too numerous to keep a list of so I won't edit this post to include them bc it's too hard sorry.

2022 Creator’s Self-Love Extravaganza
Rules: It’s time to love yourselves! Choose your 5 favorite works (fics, art, edits, etc.) you’ve created this year and link them below to reflect on the amazing things you’ve brought into the world in 2022. If you don’t have five published works, that’s fine! Include ideas/drafts/whatever you like that you’ve worked on/thought about, and talk a little about them instead! Remember, this is all about self-love and positive enthusiasm, so fuck the rules if you need to. Have fun, and tag as many fellow creators as you like so they can share the love!
Tagged by @bubblesthemonsterartist tho I daresay I am fashionably late at this point, more than two weeks into the new year. Did I forget? Maaaaybe. Which brings us right to the main problem;
I barely remember. Like. 2022. At all. Things happened, I’m sure, but it’s as if there’s a fine layer of mist atop my memories, stopping me from really seeing them. Last year wasn’t really very kind to me. For every up, three downs followed, and between two failed surgeries, a bout of covid, and then whatever the hell kind of flare happened in the autumn… yeah. Idek. It is what it is.
As such, I can’t really comment on my art as like, a whole process, this year. It just existed in the ‘now’, which is presently the ‘then’. I know I beat my submission record from last year, but it felt like a meaningless victory. Despite everything, I can feel it in my hand now, when I draw, that some progress has been made. Subconsciously perhaps, but it’s there.
Onto the ranking then! (I just had to pull up the archive cuz fuck if I remember what I posted, and when)
1.
*deep sigh* we all saw this coming, didn’t we? As much as I love, I curse this image, for in hindsight it felt as if all my creative energy for the entire damned year went into this one piece! Like how dare! But yes it is one of my best redraws ever, and more so than the characters, I feel like I added to the background something even better than the original. There, I said it.
2.
Omigod this entire thiiiiiing. Were it not for the redraw, this would be the top spot. I can’t explain, so many ideas are left in the brain for countless hours, days, months, YEARS. This was two years in the making, and never before did I manage to recreate something that had the exact same vibe as it looked in my imagination. Especially because I’m not a comic creator, hashtag compulsive disclaimer lol. Also while I was drawing it, seeing people go from “hmmm what’s this?” to “wait is that-?” and then “ooooooh it is the lead-up to The Thing” was priceless.
3.
A last-second outlier comes in third. I admit to making this in a hurry, just to have something really nice to show for december (a month which is usually a highly productive month to me, but 2022 didn’t let me have that either) and as such, since I was struggling, both with a deadline, and a lack of real inspiration, I feel like. I managed to improve, somehow. Call it magic, but this looks noticeably different to many of my other colored pieces.
4.
To be perfectly honest, this was a sketch. People might not think it one, for it has details, a color scheme, and even effects - but at the time I posted it, this was just a colorized sketch in my mind. Tumblr disagreed. And I was left in awe watching this first get reblogged within the fandom, then beyond, then go through a hanfu appreciation blog, and finally reblogged with a truly tender chinese poem attached that said person felt gave them the same vibe as what I had drawn. The people spoke, and I was both awed and humbled, and I learned a valuable lesson in humanity relating to art.
5.
Unlike the others, this was a conscious attempt at something different. I can’t really say why it should go in the fifth spot, but it does; i spent a lot more time than usual on composition, colors, and most importantly, mood setting. And putting characters so solidly into the middleground can be a challenge in itself for me, as I run the risk of getting storybook-ish. Which would’ve been disastrous for a scene like this.
Honorable mention;
Coping through art. @bubblesthemonsterartist has the honor of inspiring this, or like, being the one to “give me” the go-ahead to channel some of my experiences through the characters and story-telling in general. Back pain is something I know all too well, and it was well and truly therapeutic. I also got to do another test of “can I retell this scene, even if I switch part of the cast and premise?” And it seems I did. I will always remember @what-plant-metaphor-am-i ‘s tag; ‘# I feel like I just watched an entire episode XD’ <- never has my inner storyteller been more validated.
There, that wasn’t so hard! Sometimes I’m really thankful for the internet, and timestamps, and kicking my memory back into gear etc… anyway, since I am so woefully late to the party, I’m not tagging anyone specifically; if you wanna be fashionably late too, you know who tagged you~
