"That’s what happens when you don’t bring protection. Idiots."
"What do you mean, ‘protection?’"
During development of Mass Effect 1, Noveria’s Aleutsk Valley had several encounters and enemies that were eventually left on the cutting room floor. Here’s another one where I’ve spliced the leftover audio files together.
After defeating a group of hostile krogan in the valley, Shepard comments on how lethargic they seemed. Wrex explains that krogan feel the cold more intensely than other races, and has a final request to get out of the weather (which is an ambient comment not directly tied to the conversation).
Every squadmate has recorded lines for this encounter. It was probably intended to be a short cut-scene with dialogue options.

i got the random urge to add some jaw harp to the sunny theme. only instrument i know how to play. some of the timing is off because i had a lot of issues making this and my joints can only handle so much rn
unsurprisingly i had to once again join a modding discord to find the relevant information i need instead of that information being listed somewhere that'd be easy to access. hell world moment
Hello! I'm loving Breaker Whiskey, it's so beautiful and it's also making me better at Morse Code, lol. I've got a question about episode 60, though, what's the music that's mixed into the morse and static? It sounds like a very old recording, and I love that sort of thing. Thank you for sharing your shows with us!
ahhhh this makes me so happy!! I LOVE that it's getting people into Morse Code, that thrills me.
(some spoilers below about episode 60 of @breakerwhiskey, including additional explanation from me that you may or may not want)
yes, the music mixed into episode 60 IS an old recording! it's a song played on a phonograph - I use a service called Splice to get a lot of the sounds I've put in a bunch of my shows, and there's a pack that's all sounds from vintage audio devices. there's a few of those sounds mixed into episode 60 - a phonograph song, the sounds of wax cylinders being played, and a recording of Thomas Edison explaining the phonograph - all of them distorted to be mostly unrecognizable.
the song file itself is just called 'phonograph song' - I think a bunch of audio engineers just recorded whatever they could off the vintage resources they had - but as far as I was able to glean from the lyrics (they're not that much clearer even undistorted) it's an 1860s confederate rallying song, which I thought would be just about the worst possible thing that you could hear played at random over a radio frequency. I wanted the sounds all together to be menacing, and Whiskey has talked a lot about the myth-making of America vs. the cruel reality, so it felt on theme.
that said, the phonograph sounds were chosen mainly for the literal quality of the sound - that tactile, fuzzy wax static - rather than any true story importance. there are story-relevant sounds mixed in there, but I'm not going to tell you what they are or what they mean!
I'm almost at the end of the p3p and I gotta say...
This remaster kind of sucks.
It's been a lot of fun to play the game as Kotone, sure, but that's because I've already played FES. I feel like in choosing to port the PsP game they really ganked the experience of persona 3 for new players because FES is without argument still the best way to experience this story. Not to mention the fact that they totally skipped out on porting The Answer which is the REAL ending to the game. Why is Elizabeth in the arena game? She's still trying free Door-Kun. Why did I call him Door-kun? No one under the age of 30 is gonna know.
It's only 20 dollars so I'm not like...super put out that the visuals, the audio and just about everything not directly related to customizable difficulty levels and the female protagonist are lackluster but I am kind of sad that a lot of the coolest parts of my favorite Persona game are just like...not there.
