Toonami Night Review: MHA’s “All Might”-y Debut on the Block!
Last week a show that we fans have been requesting for some time finally premiered on the block, and as expected, it was great! Everyone had a blast with the first episode, and we’re looking forward to seeing Izuku’s journey towards becoming a hero. Big things comes to those who wait, and our patience definitely paid off. Not much else to say on the matter, just really happy it’s on the block now. Haven’t seen the whole series, so I’m looking forward to crossing this off my list while I try to get a head start on the manga.

Moving on. After re-reading my last review, I have decided that for now on I’m just going to blend the review of last week’s run and the recap of the shows together. Not only will this save me time and make the post less lengthy, but I needed a change to make writing these posts feel less of a chore. So without further ado, let’s begin the rundown!
As always we began with Dragon Ball Hour. In Dragon Ball Super, Goku, Vegeta, and Bulma return to the present and try to figure out a way to defeat Goku Black and Zamasu. Fortunately Piccolo comes up with a possible solution, and Goku begin mastering the technique to contain the foes. Then in DBZ Kai, Goku learns it’s hard to maintain Super Saiyan 3 when alive, but it’s all good as Good Buu is tagging in and taking on the evil Kid Buu.
After that, My Hero Academia makes it premiere on the block, as we’re introduced to Izuku “Deku” Midoriya, a student without a Quirk but still has hopes in becoming a hero. We then go to the ball game in FLCL, as Naota hits it out of the park, and by that I mean an exploding satellite with a bad ass guitar! After the game, we then watch Jotaro finish a game of poker against Stand User D’Arby in Stardust Crusaders, beating him and saving his friends’ souls.
We then moved onto Hunter x Hunter, we Killua finally frees himself from Illumi’s brainwashing needle, and in time to defeat the rabbit chimera ant Rammot. Meanwhile, Gon manages to turn down Palm and barely escapes with his life thanks to Killua, as well as Palm’s crush on Master Knov resurfacing. We then head over to Black Clover, where a Royal Rumble gets interrupted by a sudden Zombie Apocalypse in the Kingdom.
After some zombie fun, we watch the Five Kage Summit get interrupted by the Akatsuki in Naruto Shippuden, with Naruto being found by Tobi. After that we blast off into Space Dandy, where Dandy, Meow, and QT suddenly have to deal with multiple version of themselves from alternate universes, including one depressed emo Dandy that’s just wants to die.
After laughing off to some dark humor, we jam to Cowboy Bebop, where we’re shown a little bit of Spike’s past, as well as introduced to... Vicious! After that showdown, we then ended last night’s run with Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG, as things start getting complicated. Aramaki and Togusa have to save the Prime Minister from a political coup, while Gouda’s manipulates Section 4 into attacking Section 9 as they enter Dejima with the plutonium, all the while the Tachikoma’s detect a nuclear submarine nearby.
And that concludes the review of last week’s run of Toonami! Looking forward to tonight’s run, as we continue on with episode two of MHA, as well as get our guns blazing on FLCL! And speaking of FLCL, looking forward to the marathon of it in a couple of weeks, as well as the premiere of FLCL 2 next month!
Good times keep on going for Toonami, and I’m looking forward to seeing what else this year has in store for our favorite late night anime block! So until the next review, Stay Gold!

Toonami Weekly Recap 5/05/2018
My Hero Academia EP#01 - Izuku Midoriya: Origin: In a world where most of the population is gifted with special powers known as "Quirks", Izuku Midoriya is a young boy who always dreamed of becoming a hero, despite not having a Quirk himself, until one day he is attacked by a villain and is rescued by no other than All Might, the most famous hero ever and his idol since childhood.
Black Clover EP#21 - Capital Riot: Asta defends Noelle from her siblings at the decoration ceremony, and the other nobles try to put him in his place. Meanwhile, Leopold and Fuegoleon seem to have taken a liking to Asta, which causes an argument between Fuegoleon and Nozel.
JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders: Battle in Egypt EP#35 - D'Arby the Gambler, Part 2: D'Arby prepares his and Jotaro's game of poker by splitting up Polnareff and Joseph's souls into six poker chips each he will use to bet with, giving Jotaro a set of six to represent his own soul. Jotaro shows off how precise Star Platinum's eyesight is by predicting the deal of the cards, and catches D'Arby as his about to cheat by second dealing, leading Jotaro to pick a boy near the café to deal for them. Jotaro loses three chips in his first hand against D'Arby, and in the second hand D'Arby is dealt four kings, but Jotaro appears to have not once looked at his cards. D'Arby begins to worry, as he knows the boy and everyone else in the café are in his employ, and the boy is sure he has dealt Jotaro a bum hand, but Jotaro raises all of his soul and Avdol's soul on his bet, while using Star Platinum to get himself a cigarette and a drink. D'Arby believes he is bluffing, seeing his bet and raising it, betting the rest of Jotaro's soul and all of Joseph and Polnareff's souls. Jotaro sees his bet with Kakyoin's soul and then raises with the soul of his mother Holly. D'Arby, unsure if Jotaro has managed to use Star Platinum to change out all of his cards to a better hand, mentally folds as he goes catatonic. All of the souls he won in bets are released, allowing Joseph and Polnareff to recover as Avdol looks at Jotaro's cards, realizing that he had been dealt a bad hand. Jotaro admits he never once looked at his cards to keep his cool, but laments that they will not be able to interrogate D'Arby for information on DIO.
Hunter x Hunter: The Chimera Ant Arc EP#94 - Friend × And × Journey: Divided between his drive to flee and his will to protect Gon, Killua find himself in a dire situation until he realizes that he is under the effect of one Illumi's needles, easily killing Rammot after he breaks free from it. Meanwhile, Gon's date with Palm turns to the worse when he claims that he can't stay by her side. As Shoot returns to check on them, Morel and Knuckle confront Cheetu, one of the Chimera Ants on the run.
Space Dandy EP#14 - I Can't Be the Only One, Baby: When the crew of the Aloha Oe brings a cow to the Registration Center, Scarlet suggests that they should consider looking for another career. While Dandy, QT and Meow later discuss the matter, Dandy pulls out a long stray hair from his head, which drags them all to an alternate dimension, where they encounter upgraded versions of themselves. This starts a recurring event when the crew of the Aloha Oe keeps finding more stray hairs known as cosmic strings, sending them to various dimensions, where they find versions of themselves which parody other anime series. When they finally pull a cosmic string that sends them back to their dimension, all the other versions are accidentally brought back as well. Because strange events start occurring in their own dimension, especially after meeting an odd version of the trio, all versions of Dandy decide to fix things by burning all the cosmic strings, sending all incarnations back to their respective dimensions. However, the odd version of the trio replaces the original crew of the Aloha Oe in their own dimension.
FLCL EP#04 - Full Swing: Haruko proves to be a star baseball player with phenomenal hitting and pitching skills, nearly single-handedly defeating the Mabase Martians, who are coached by Naota's grandfather Shigekuni. Naota, however, refuses to swing when he is at bat (it is implied that he does not want to be compared to his brother, who is a professional baseball player) and gets hit by one of Haruko's pitches. At home, Kamon and Haruko indulge in odd behavior that inflames Naota's jealousy. He meets Commander Amarao for the first time, who warns him about Haruko. Commander Amarao works for the department of Interstellar Immigration alongside his subordinate Lieutenant Kitsurubami. He discovers that a satellite damaged by one of Haruko's hit baseballs is rapidly falling towards Earth. It homes in on a sudden burst of light from the N.O. channel in Naota's head that is triggered by his anger towards his father, and targets Mabase. Naota confronts Kamon and hits him in the head with a baseball bat, only to discover that he has hit a robot impersonating his father. He finds the corpse of his real father and revives him with hot water. After receiving a message that Commander Amarao had asked Naota to pass on to her, Haruko takes Naota to the top of the Medical Mechanica plant, where she extracts a Gibson Flying V guitar from Naota's head, which she calls his "bat". She then leaves as the falling satellite heads straight for Naota. It unfolds into the shape of a baseball glove and launches a bomb that looks exactly like a baseball. Naota swings his "bat" and manages to halt the bomb, which begins to detonate. Haruko returns to rescue him by swinging her guitar and knocking it back into space.
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG EP#24 (50) - IN: Aerial Bombing of Dejima – NUCLEAR POWER: The Chief Cabinet Secretary formally relieves the Prime Minister of her duties because of her decision to call on the UN to mediate in the Dejima crisis. Along with Aramaki, Proto and Togusa, the PM is moved under guard to an abandoned room of the building. Although the PM and her Section 9 escorts are split up they are not out of the fight; Aramaki produces a small-caliber firearm and Proto, Section 9's bioroid, manages to gain access to the net, where he finds Section 9's Tachikoma units. Through them, Proto gains access to the building blueprints and up-to-date information on Section 9's Dejima operation, as well as the location of the Prime Minister. With this information in hand, Togusa and the Chief set out to rescue the PM and put the brakes on the Dejima situation before things get even worse. Elsewhere, The Major and the rest of Section 9 (Batou, Borma, Saito, and Paz) manage to infiltrate Dejima Island in their captured military chopper, but before the team can safely disembark a number of Jigabachi aircraft fire on the helicopter, disabling the rotor. Kusanagi bails from the chopper before it crashes, intending to locate Kuze, while the rest of the team is tasked with presenting the "missing" plutonium to the UN inspection team. Unfortunately, Section 4 has been dispatched to retrieve the missing plutonium as well, and they mistake Section 9 operatives for militant refugees, resulting in a shootout across the streets of Dejima as both sides attempt to secure and present the plutonium. Meanwhile, Kuze leads a small band of refugees armed with Stinger missiles to the docks of Dejima island. The quartet manages to shoot down the E2C Hawkeye responsible for the communications jamming signal over Dejima, and allow the refugees to gain access to his cyberbrain once more. From the refugees Kuze learns of the developing situation: the Army and Navy are attacking the island with airstrikes, missiles, and naval artillery; they have also deployed radiation scrubbers in the air in and around Dejima to prevent any fallout from the nuclear material the refugees have from escaping the area unchecked. For the moment, Dejima Island is safe from invasion because the only land bridge into the facility has been destroyed, but the army has begun to move portable bridge equipment in to rebuild it. As Section 9 races against the clock to stop the fighting, the Tachikomas monitoring the Dejima situation make a disturbing discovery.
