btw when u talk about the icc and israel u should know that they were one of the 7 countries that voted against the rome statute specifically because, "the action of transferring population into occupied territory" was included in the list of war crimes
#i'm seeing people talk about how on the list of things that needs to happen is the icc prosecuting israel#i don't know how effective that would be. if u'll recall the icc issued an arrest warrant for putin in march#not only is russia not a party to the rome statute but the us isn't either and is hesitant to even say#that the icc should have jurisdiction over putin a non member state citizen#what do u think us officials would say about the icc issuing arrest warrants for israeli officials#technically even if u aren't a member the unsc can refer a case to the prosecutor and that would compel you legally to comply#but it wouldn't compel you in practice! especially seeing as how the unsc has. u know. the us in it#so that would never actually happen#in fact blinken wrote a press statement in 2021 saying that he was deeply disappointed in the icc's investigation into#the 'palestinian situation' and that the palestinians don't count as a sovereign state#so not only in the us's and current admin's view do palestinians not qualify for membership but in the current admin's view the icc has no#jurisdiction over israel/israeli officials#anyway the conclusion of all this is. the icc would only issue arrest warrants for a handful of israeli officials#and that won't get to the root problem of israel being a genocidal ethnostate
