Fine lines make for interesting times Pt. 2
Fine lines expose the “scientific” swines
Before we begin, I’d strongly recommend playing this soundtrack in the background; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=imtPF2b2Q4M. I believe that it will enhance your experience as a reader.
Science. It can be said that our scientific beliefs which are largely responsible for knitting together nearly all of the critical threads that form the fabric of our society. With medicine, engineering, space exploration and more, we’re progressing at an astonishing rate – and yet although we’re making progress, a large part of me feels that our “manipulation” of scientific facts is responsible for regression in other areas of our understanding. Yes, I am a flat earther. And yes, I know what you’re probably thinking right now; “Wow, another crazy person with no belief or respect for science”. And quite frankly, that’s what I would expect people’s interpretation of my beliefs today. There is massive disregard for alternative facts concerning the world’s shape, and we’re brought up being taught specific scientific “facts”, while disregarding a breadth of other knowledge at the same time. Thus, while you’re reading this, I ask one thing of you. And that is to keep your mind open – no matter how absurd you may think me upon first impression.

For people unfamiliar with what “flat-earthers” are, we believe that the earth is shaped like a disc, with an Artic circle in the middle, and Antarctica at the at the edge of this disc. Although there is a bit of differentiation around the views on the exact shape and layout, that is the general philosophy. And I believe that any rational being willing to gauge the scientific evidence thoroughly and thoughtfully behind flat-earther philosophies would be astonished.

My piece today is not meant as one to give you the entire argumentative basis behind our beliefs. Firstly, the research and theory underlying flat-earther belief is available to the public. If you’re reading this, that means you have the capability to Google it. Secondly and more importantly, looking at the basis for our view will be useless if you’re not willing to open your mind towards new possibilities. Regardless of how valid, creative, or proof-based a theory is, without a willingness to seriously consider an alternative theory to one that you’ve grown up believing in, you will find no real fruits from your search.

Hence, I am writing today to encourage everyone reading to open your mind to new possibilities. And yes, I want you to understand that despite what your teachers may tell you in school, there is a scientific backing and rationale behind our beliefs. If we look at the inverse case, when Eratosthenes the Aristotle released his theory that the earth was round, it was met with skepticism, censorship and violence at points. Initially, his theory seemed crazy and stupid – and I firmly believe that inversely, despite the enormous abouts of research being conducted, the flat-earther society is met with a similar reaction. Hence, I would urge you to open your mind to encompass new and unexpected possibilities – and at the end of it even if you still disagree, you’ll find yourself having gained valuable insight and understanding into general knowledge about the earth and the basis behind our theories. Who knows, maybe the next time you come across a flat-earther your first impression might even change.
