Princess Arete is so good & fun. A locked up little princess who yearns to learn & do useful things is controlled by her father & his councillors and ends up kidnapped by an evil wizar ; she escapes from him & realizes the wizard has big time self-loathing problems.

#princess arete #the take on magic is so good #love works in which magic is present & fascinating but also #magic is also in the hands of the common people #learning a craft #having human hands capable of making something useful is magic #and the parallels made between arete and the wizard are incredible #they're both “useless” arete has been sheltered from practical knowldge #and the wizard is reliant on old existing magic and can't do much otherwise #also love a world that subtly mixes magic/fantasy and science fiction #it's clearly implied the wizard's civilisation was technologically advanced and it was all lost except for remnants
