Royal Enfield has a strong grasp of the 350cc segment with bestsellers like Classic 350, Bullet 350, Hunter 350 and Super Meteor 350.Coming soon is the Goan Classic 350 that will further strengthen Royal Enfield’s entry-level portfolio.

Goan Classic 350 name is likely to be used for the bobber-style motorcycle that has been spotted on road tests multiple times in recent months.
The name seems to have been inspired by the party capital of India – Goa, which also sits well with the bike maker as Royal Enfield has its Garage Cafe in Goa, and celebrates its annual motorcycle festival, Motoverse aka Rider Mania, in the state as well.
How is Goan Classic 350 different from Classic 350?
Spy images of the 350cc bobber have revealed that while the bike will carry traditional Royal Enfield design cues, critical changes will lead to very different ergonomics from the rest of the 350cc models.
For instance, the forward-set foot pegs will be complemented by taller handlebars twisted towards the rider. This will lend the bike an appearance of a traditional American chopper.

Taller handlebars can contribute to improved back posture, better control on challenging terrains, and increased stability.
Goan Classic 350 could also see changes in the seat design and seat height. A test mule spotted recently was seen with a rear pillion seat. This could be made available via a separate variant or as an accessory.
The bobber 350 could also have slightly forward set footpegs. Test mule sightings also reveal that Goan Classic 350 will have a different exhaust tip. As a result, it is likely that the exhaust note will also be distinct.

Goan Classic 350 specs, performance
Most of the hardware for the bobber version will be the same as Classic 350. Typical bobber motorcycles have a longer wheelbase. But that’s not the case with the Goan Classic 350. Royal Enfield has favoured a mild bobber look and feel, instead of going for a full-fledged makeover. The latter could have necessitated major tweaks to the platform, which in turn will increase development and production cost. Goan Classic 350 will have the same 1,390 mm of wheelbase as Classic 350.
Since we expect the Goan Classic 350 to be a special edition model, the underpinnings and engine might remain unchanged. So, the motorcycle will use a 349cc, air/oil-cooled motor that will make 20.2bhp at 6,100rpm and 27Nm at 4,000rpm. The engine will come paired with a five-speed gearbox.

The take care of the Dubai-based Worldwide Cricket Council comes days after UK-headquartered Shell introduced an eight-year partnership with British Biking, the game’s governing physique within the UK, which drew sharp criticism from environmental teams. 12 Feb 2019: Tesco delivery robots go live, Ocado fire, charging electric vehicles, regulating bad design
Hello, this is the Co-op Digital newsletter - it looks at what's happening in the internet/digital world and how it's relevant to the Co-op, to retail businesses, and most importantly to people, communities and society. Thank you for reading and please do send ideas, questions, corrections etc to @rod on Twitter. If you have enjoyed reading please consider telling a friend about it!
Tumblr media
[Image: Gizmodo/Ocado]
Tesco delivery robots go live
Changes at Tesco. In the stores, it’s removing meat, fish and deli counters and 9,000 jobs.
“Generationally - customers at the younger end of the spectrum are even less likely to visit counters, the age of the smartphone, self service checkouts and actively avoiding contact with a real human being means counters are a challenge for the longer term.” (On the other hand some (older?) shoppers “won’t use self scan / scan/go handsets as they link it with checkout operators losing their jobs”.
That piece is good on the zero-sum game of winning customers back from discounters and then keeping them in the store.
Outside its stores: Tesco trialled customer delivery with robots a couple of years ago, and is now going live with robot delivery for £1 to homes in in Milton Keynes. (“Co-op has been trialling the Starship Technologies service since April 2018, extending it to hundreds more households due to strong demand.”)
Related and ancient news: the newsletter on Starship and Amazon’s Starship-like deliverybots. Tesco was talking about robots in the shopping aisles in 2015.
Ocado robots burn
Fire destroyed one of Ocado’s robot-staffed distribution centres. No-one was hurt thankfully, but the building’s internal structure made it hard for firefighters to control: “This building is not meant for humans to be interacting with the racking and the storage - it has robots moving racking on to loading bays, so for firefighters trying to get in that high and to make an effective fire-fighting strategy, it has been very difficult.” Ocado’s warehouses are three dimensional grids of racked products designed for robots to traverse rather than humans to walk:
“Forget the conveyors, forget the shelves - and instead imagine a grid system. Densely packed under each grid square are stacks of standardised totes on top of each other. There are no aisles between them for staff to retrieve stock, because there is no need: these totes are instead picked out from above by robots. The totes can be stacked up to 21 deep.”
There were rumours that a robot started the fire, or that some of the 1,100 robots were still moving, which hampered firefighters (denied). These stories may say more about how we feel about robots and jobs.
Charging electric vehicles
EO Charging, green energyco Bulb and Suffolk county council have launched the UK's first open charging network for electric vehicles. Pay As You go instead of memberships etc. The economics: locations pay £2/charger/day and keep 90% of the charging revenue - drivers pay about £2/hour.
Electric vehicles need to charge more often and charging is slower, so as car use starts to shift to electric, charging infrastructure probably means “adding charging to parking spaces” more than “converting existing petrol stations to electric”.
There will be retail opportunities where the charging happens. Retail that can offer plenty of parking with charging (or even free/subsidised charging) will attract footfall. So schemes like EO/Bulb’s might be an easy way for town centres, car parks and retail locations to start adding in charging infrastructure.
Regulating bad design
Six large hotel booking sites have agreed to display prices more clearly, avoid hiding charges, stop misleading comparisons and stop implying room scarcity. These tactics have all been effective pricing and design approaches, albeit very user-unfriendly ones, so this is a step forward. And it is interesting to see the Competition and Markets Authority regulating bad design.
Numbers
Mobile devices (including tablets) now account for 77% of UK time online, up from 73% a year ago. And 32% of the UK online adult population use *only* mobile devices, up from 25% last year. This is why many modern services are being designed as “mobile first” or even “mobile only”.
Global Data say that the UK click and collect market will grow 46% to 9.8bn by 2023.
Other news
“I’ve worked in Parliament for two years and yesterday I learnt about a steering group and board of directors that apparently influence our projects :exploding_head: It’s so hard to know what you don’t know! Who’s been feeding back to them on my behalf? How do I find out what they care about?!” - organisational opacity :(
Amazon forced to pull products in India as new rules bite - new competition laws to support smaller business prevent Amazon and local rival Flipkart from having exclusive listing deals and from selling products through vendors in which they hold an equity stake.
“Every recaptcha I see is training data for AV’s. Spot the car, traffic signs, bikes and crosswalks.” - these days the most valuable user effort doesn’t go into visible content but into invisible training data.
