Could you do reading about mark lee future spouse?
i’m using cards of the GOLDEN WHEEL tarot for this one. (wheels = pentacles) ♡
tarot/astro m.list
Tumblr media
how do they come across?
QUEEN OF CUPS — lucky mark. this card signifies a gorgeous woman of status or a remarkably beautiful man. granted, he is also re-mark-able by virtue of the word itself, pun intended. the feminine energy is off the charts here, though. i’m seeing dark hair in a long braid and very dainty hands on this person. extremely swan-like, gentle, very well-dressed, especially the color blue. large eyes, cherry lips. this person scores flippin’ mark lee, but mark definitely wins, too. this person has an enormous energy and good, loving character. cups represent empathy, he is well-taken care of.
where are they from?
FIVE OF CUPS — the predominant colors of the card in my particular deck are blue, white, and red so those might be a hint for the country's flag, e.g. france, usa, uk, cuba, croatia, thailand, puerto rico...
what is their vocation?
FIVE OF SWORDS — sports, communications, competition of any kind. it tends to be a challenging job for them as the card carries the topic of defeat and win-lose situations. martial arts come to mind. they might not be satisfied with their profession since the card has a more negative tone.
how do they meet mark?
TWO OF WHEELS — likely through anything that has to do with finances/economics. they collaborate in some type of way.
when will they link up?
EIGHT OF CUPS — once mark leaves the company or the group in the far future. this card is the quintessential "walking away" stereotype. they link up at the end of his career. he leaves behind a lot for this person. it could be voluntary leaving or mark quitting, whether it's when the contract ends or not is not 100% sure, but i tend towards the latter, even. he might trade one for the other. a third interpretation may be that mark marries his rebound from a broken prior relationship.
what kind of relationship is it?
TEMPERANCE — contradicting the last card essentially. this might be the ultimate work-life balance romance? it's not a whirlwind crush nor a teenage dream puppy love. this is a major arcana card, they will stay in their bubble of perfect equilibrium for a long time.
will there be kids/a kid involved or not?
KING OF WANDS — this is neither a direct yes or no. maybe fatherhood is important to mark, but this card rather indicates the positive influence of his own dad on any family decisions. he would ask him first, as the king of wands shows the presence of a trusted authority figure.

A Global Perspective: How Different Countries Approach Carbon Auditing and Reporting
In a global effort to cohesively combat climate change, the process of gaining carbon audits and reports serves as crucial mechanisms in the reduction and tracking of GHG emissions. When nations strive to meet climate targets internationally, like that in the Paris Agreement, the frameworks and strategies employed in auditing and reporting can also vary significantly.
European Union
The EU is seen as a leader in climate regulation, where the ETS or EU’s Emission Trading Systems is the cornerstone of Europe’s policy to be combating climate change. It is a cost-effective tool for the reduction of successful greenhouse gas emissions. Covering over 11000 manufacturing plants and power stations in 27 member states in the EU, and emissions from airlines that fly between the countries. EU mandates large companies to publish regular social and environmental reports, including detailed accounts of carbon emissions. This need promotes transparency and encourages organizations to develop processes for reducing carbon footprints. The “Green Deal from EU” will aim to make Europe the first climate-neutral continent by 2050, thereby tightening expectations and regulations for carbon audits.
The United States
The United States has a less centralized process for carbon auditing or reporting than the EU. There is no mandatory scheme of carbon trading or national carbon tax, but some states like California pioneer aggressive climactic policies. For instance, the “California Cap-and Trade” 2013 program, has been one of the largest carbon trading programs worldwide. It covered 85% of the total GHG emissions of the state. The EPA or “Environmental Protection Agency” needs to report GHG emissions from large suppliers and sources in the USA through the GHG reporting program. However, this is a more decentralized approach with unique variations on how individual states can report and manage emissions.
India
India strongly focuses on increasing the capacity for renewable energy and overall energy efficiency. The NAPCC or “National Action Plan on Climate Change” displays eight national missions that run through 2017-20, focusing on the promotion of sustainable development. Although India does not possess a mandatory GHG emissions report system across all industries, it operates a PAT scheme (called Perform, Achieve & Trade) under the national mission for enhanced energy efficiency. The market-based PAT scheme enhances cost-effectiveness as well as energy efficiency across sectors. Third-party audits and voluntary reporting should be encouraged, where an increased number of Indian organizations participate in projects of global carbon disclosure.
China
China has been the world’s largest emitter of CO2 but has made considerable strides in carbon audits and reports in recent years. In 2021 the country had launched a national trading scheme, focusing on the sector of power generation. The scheme has the expected expansion to include more industries to peak emissions before 2030 while achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. China shows heavy investment in technologies around renewable energy which reduces its rapidly growing economy’s carbon intensity. The government mandates GHG emissions and energy audits which report for key industries, thus integrating collated efforts into a national framework that would support long-term objectives of the climate.
Conclusion
The Carbon audit and report reflect diverse political wills, economic priorities, as well as environmental challenges. The trading schemes of the EU to the decentralized strategies of the USA, and the emerging frameworks in China and India, every country contributes uniquely to the collected effort of reducing global greenhouse gas emissions. The national strategies not only aim to meet international climate commitments but also foster innovation, and encourage private and public sectors to participate actively in global climate change. As the world continues to face and evolve new environmental challenges, the effectiveness and adaptability of the carbon auditing and reporting frameworks will shape a sustainable future.

Vietnam top 10 exports
Tumblr media
Vietnam has emerged as a reliable and rapidly developing hub for international commerce and investment, boasting one of Asia's fastest-growing economies. With an impressive annual GDP growth rate of 6.5%, coupled with stable population growth and rising incomes, Vietnam presents a promising long-term market for global investors. In the financial year 2023-24, Vietnam's total exports are projected to reach a remarkable US$123.64 billion. In this article, we will delve into the top 10 exports from Vietnam, explore the country's key export products, provide a list of major exporters, and offer updated Vietnam export data.
Current Trends in Vietnam's Exports
Vietnam's export landscape has seen significant evolution over recent years. Analysis of Vietnam export data reveals several noteworthy trends. One prominent trend is the shift towards higher-value manufacturing sectors, such as electronics, which have rapidly expanded. Despite this shift, traditional industries like agriculture and textiles continue to thrive, showcasing Vietnam's diverse export portfolio.
As an export-driven economy, Vietnam benefits from over 90 bilateral trade agreements and approximately 60 bilateral investment promotion and protection contracts.
Key Export Trends:
Overall Growth: Vietnam's exports totaled $371.3 billion in 2022, marking a 10.5% increase from the previous year. This represents a substantial rise from $236 billion in 2017.
Shifting Manufacturing Hub: Vietnam is increasingly viewed as a cost-effective alternative to China, attracting global companies looking to relocate their manufacturing operations.
Trade Agreements: Free trade agreements, including the RCEP, EVFTA, and UKVFTA, have opened new markets for Vietnamese goods and simplified export processes.
The fastest-growing export sectors in Vietnam include electronics (notably phones and computers), machinery, textiles, footwear, and agricultural products. The overall export economy shows no signs of slowing down, driven by robust growth across key industries.
Vietnam Export Data: 2023-24
Between January and April 2024, total trade amounted to $238.88 billion, a 15.2% increase year-over-year. Vietnam's exports for this period reached an estimated $123.64 billion, up 15% from the previous year. The trade surplus in goods stood at $8.4 billion for the first four months of 2024. This strong performance indicates a recovery from the previous year's decline, where total foreign trade fell by 6.6% and exports dropped by 4.4%.
Top 10 Exports from Vietnam (2024)
Vietnam exports a wide range of products, from semi-finished to final goods. Here are the top 10 export products that dominate the country's export landscape:
Phones and Accessories: $57.99 billion
Computers and Electronic Products: $55.54 billion
Machinery and Equipment: $45.75 billion
Textiles and Garments: $37.57 billion
Footwear: $23.90 billion
Wood and Wooden Products: $16.01 billion
Vehicles and Spare Parts: $11.99 billion
Seafood and Fishery Products: $10.92 billion
Iron and Steel: $7.99 billion
Cameras, Camcorders, and Accessories: $6.37 billion
Phones and accessories lead the list, with exports valued at $57.99 billion, followed closely by computers and electronic products. Other significant export items include textiles, garments, and footwear.
Vietnam's Top Export Partners
Vietnam's export partners play a crucial role in its trade dynamics. Here is an updated list of the top export partners:
China: $175.57 billion
USA: $123.86 billion
Korea: $86.38 billion
Japan: $47.61 billion
Netherlands: $3.99 billion
Hong Kong: $3.389 billion
India: $3.309 billion
Germany: $3.104 billion
Thailand: $2.975 billion
United Kingdom: $2.359 billion
China remains Vietnam's top trading partner, with a two-way trade turnover of $175.57 billion, followed by the USA and Korea.
Future Projections for Vietnam's Foreign Trade
The anticipated growth in Vietnam's foreign trade is largely attributed to key export markets controlling inflation, thereby boosting demand for Vietnamese goods. Additionally, Vietnam's free trade agreements, particularly the EVFTA, are expected to enhance export performance in the coming months further. The ongoing efforts of Western corporations to diversify supply chains away from China will likely continue to benefit Vietnam's manufacturing sector and drive long-term economic growth.

How IPTV Works: A Technical Guide To The Best IPTV Service
Tumblr media
The primary system used for acquiring, encoding, and managing content before consumer distribution is known as the IPTV head-end. It entails gathering different TV shows and media, which are subsequently encoded and digitalized into formats appropriate for IP transmission. Compressing the audio and video streams is one step in this process that lowers bandwidth utilization without sacrificing quality. To guarantee a dependable and seamless viewing experience, the head-end also oversees user access and content delivery.
To guarantee an enjoyable viewing experience, several criteria should be taken into account while choosing the best Indian IPTV service. First and first, content quality and diversity are crucial. An extensive VOD library and a broad selection of channels, both local and international, are hallmarks of the best IPTV Provider in USA. For a satisfying experience, the streaming quality—which includes compatibility for HD and 4K—is also essential. The service’s stability and dependability is another crucial factor. Seek suppliers who deliver low buffering and high uptime.

ALAICOIN Forecasts Bitcoin Price Surge Once Fed Tightening Ends
Considering the recent rate hikes in the US, Bitcoin (BTC) is “trading very well,” and once the Federal Reserve (Fed) pauses its tightening policies, Bitcoin prices will soar like “flying to the moon,” says Mike Novogratz, CEO of Galaxy Digital.
During a fireside chat with BTC advocate and investor Anthony “Pomp” Pompliano at the Bitcoin 2022 conference held in Miami on Wednesday, Novogratz expressed that, given the macroeconomic headwinds like the Fed’s rate hikes, Bitcoin’s recent performance has impressed him.
Tumblr media
“I think Bitcoin is trading very well,” said Novogratz.
He added that he believes Fed Chair Jerome Powell has “realized he’s behind the curve” and warned he might show a “very hawkish” stance for a while. Novogratz also said that Powell wants to maintain his reputation.
Moreover, Novogratz noted that Bitcoin is “much more important outside of the United States than inside.” He believes that while the dollar remains “relatively stable” in the long term, local currencies in places like Russia, Turkey, and others do not.
However, he pointed out that from his perspective, the goal is not to replace the dollar with Bitcoin. Instead, for investors, the focus should be on storing some of their wealth in Bitcoin, he said.
When asked how high Bitcoin could go, Novogratz answered, “One million dollars.”
As of April 6th, 15:59 GMT, BTC was trading at $44,138, down nearly 4% on the day. It has risen nearly 15% in a month, reducing its year-to-date loss to less than 25%.

European Royals own the world as hybrids of the fallen angels. They are modern nephilim behind international banking system together with Roman Church Vatican and almost all politicians from left to right are their puppets stealing our money by the taxes instead printing their own debt free money for all needs! They are behind human slave trade, ritual murders of children and pedophile rings doing all kind of perverted and sick things. This system is about to be annihilated by asteroid that’s gonna hit Earth in 2032 unless I take over all the Central banks World Bank and IMF. This is well known fact by European Royals who have recorded Angels from heaven that showed up to me in June 2017 in Wrocław in Poland warning about the coming threat 15 years ahead. Instead of cooperating with me for greater good of entire humankind they decided to kill me remotely by psychotronic weapon so I should be already dead in June 2017 but Angels who arrived to Earth are shielding me from certain death and showed spaceships from heaven made of light and interdimensional which they offer to humankind among many other technologies that would allow us to make ultra HIGH evolutionary jump and unite entire humanity in New Era but European Royals with Vatican & USA don’t want debt free nations and taxation abolishment don’t want technologies on terms by the Most HIGH and don’t want me to rule the world as God appointed me to do. Politicians who guide secret services ordered to kill me as European Royals want instead of to sacrifice Rothschilds banking dynasty in Rome for entire humankind to see live on CNN & BBC. God also wants Obama Rutte Soros & BIBI in jail for killing of children for 25 years til they die and will go to hell. Global elite covers them instead of working with me and recieving amazing technologies they have recorded. There is only 8 and a half years left til IMPACT! God also wants in jail in Poland for 25 years Tusk Sikorski Komorowski Kopacz Rostowski. It all has to be done so humanity will avoid IMPACT coming in 2032. As I’m not dying the elite should realize I am the only saviour of humankind from coming threat annointed ONE! I should recieve 20 INFINITY CARDS and gifts to Monopol hotel in Katowice with MI6 and SS guards and polish special forces protection as CHOSEN by GOD Apex Imperator of Universe.

50 Women Over 50 Podcast: Confidence Born Out Of Experience
In its brief history (2005? -- present) podcasting has been dominated by men. As podcasting has become more popular, women have engaged more with the medium, both as podcasters and as listeners. According to Podnews, women have started closing the gender gap in the last five years. In 2017, only 44 percent of U.S. 18+ monthly podcast listeners were female. In 2022, 48 percent are female, more closely mirroring the U.S. population.
In their report, Podnews reported that over half of women listeners say they would listen to more podcasts if there were more that included female stories and perspectives (55 percent). And 52 percent say they would listen to more podcasts if there were more hosted by women.
So with that background of growing female representation in making, hosting, and listening to podcasts, it's no surprise that a podcast like 50 Women Over 50 would thrive in today's crowded podcast marketplace.
50 Women Over 50 ismarketed as: "A podcast for women whose personal confidence is borne of experience. Interviews with 50 women to learn how they see the world; what lessons they've learned; what advice they have for the listeners."
Creator and host Sherilynne Starkie has plenty of experience in media in a number of roles. She has worked in marketing and PR agencies for more than 20 years in Canada, Britain, and the USA (including running her own agency).
Starkie started out as a writer, then became an editor and a publication manager. She then moved into media relations, internal communications, and other marketing communications, such as direct mail and email marketing.
Blogging since 2004, Starkie admits, "I've developed a deep understanding of Internet marketing and social networks. I built a reputation as a social media ‘guru’ back when that was the fashion, and today digital communications is at the center of my work."
Starkie continues: "Lately, I’ve been helping organizations deal with some big challenges–everything from dealing with market disruption (think Uber) to aging workforces (think trade unions) to reputation management (think citizen engagement)."
Started in October 2022, the podcast began fittingly with Anna Epps, a professional portrait photographer who had a similar goal as Starkie. In Epps's case, she wanted to photograph 50 women over 50 before her 50th birthday. She's now photographed over 300 women, and her profile made for a terrific first episode that set the tone for the podcast going forward.
One of my favorite episodes is a recent one. Marjorie Turner Hollman celebrated turning 50 by getting married to a younger man.  She has written four best-selling Easy Walks books and has recently released her fifth book, a personal memoir entitled, My Liturgy of Easy Walks: Reclaiming Hope in a World Turned Upside Down.
Tullman is a fascinating guest, evincing a strength of character and vulnerability that is captivating. In the episode, she tells Starkie that her husband convinced her to use these ski poles to help her hike and navigate trails. She admits that she resisted that suggestion because she dislikes change, which is an attribute we can all understand.
Since life-saving surgery left her paralyzed on her right side almost 30 years ago, Tullman has been on, what she calls, "a healing journey." That journey included walking outdoor trails throughout New England. Her books focus on helping others, especially those with mobility challenges, get out and enjoy the outdoors.
In the episode, Starkie shows her strong hosting skills. Podcast hosting is difficult enough, but when you have to interview a guest every episode, the degree of difficulty approaches that of a quadruple jump in figure skating. Starkie is definitely up to the task. She knows how to help her guests unfold their stories gradually and not blurt out everything at once.
Starkie is prepared and not afraid to blend her opinions, experiences, and insights into the interview. That is extremely difficult to do. She does it well, like a perfect martini with three olives, of course. As the producer, Starkie brings solid production values to the podcast, and the background music handles its role perfectly -- as an intro, an outro, and a transition signal. Another episode of note welcomed award-winning newscaster Rita Rich from Westwood One, who describes her grief at suddenly becoming a widow. As she entered her fifth decade, Rita became the primary caregiver for her aged parents-in-law. A short time after they both passed, Rita also lost the love of her life. Her husband Chuck died suddenly, and she found herself on her own for the first time ever.
“You go into a sense of shock. You'll always love them, but it takes a while to fall out of love,” explains Rita. “It’s one of those stages of mourning that I think people don't get until they're in it.”
Grief is a raw emotion that can paralyze a podcast, but Starkie as the interviewer, and Rich as the guest are superb at relating the trauma of grief and its aftermath.
Perhaps my favorite episode was about "Grandma." If you haven't noticed, Baby Boomer grandparents have gone to great lengths to avoid being called Grandpa and Grandma. Today, we have MiMi, Nona, PopPop, and Geepa, and even G-Ma. There are endless permutations floating around.
In this episode, award-winning author and media personality Kathy Buckworth shares her mission to change the narrative about grandparenting. Her goal is to break the stereotypical view of the older generation as past it, doddering or old-fashioned. Today’s grandparents are healthy, active and living life to the fullest.
Buckworth has expertise in this area, since she hosts the “Go to Grandma” show on Zoomer Radio, and she syncs well with Starkie and the listeners due to her media experience.
Tumblr media
There is a balance and sense of distance that provides clarity to these stories of women over 50. Whatever a person's gender or gender identification, our life stories are only in the first few chapters in our 20s and early 30s.
What Starkie has done is offer her audience that sense of perspective and retrospective. Her subjects include a woman who was once a welfare mom and is now a successful author. Or a former police officer who experienced the horror of sexual assault twice in her life and started an advocacy organization called Silent No Longer Tennessee to help and support others.
For many of these women on the podcast, life is just getting better. What we learn from Starkie is that these women have the grit, intelligence, and perseverance to construct a life in which they are set the rules, determine their path, and give back to the world.
Check out 50 Women Over 50 podcast.

Sound Judgment podcast talks hostiness with Speakers HOFer Elaine Appleton Grant, the creator and host of the Sound Judgment podcast tells this story: " National Speakers Association Hall of Famer Jay Baer told me something recently about the financial value of a story that had never occurred to me. "And made me glad that I'm a huge believer in lifelong learning." "He said this: 'A good keynote speaker tells the same story many, many different times a year, often for several years running.'" "As a result, this signature story is often worth millions and millions of dollars." Grant knows that also means speakers / hosts don’t know how to improve their performance. Grant has been on a quest to identify the universal skills of a host that she calls "hostiness.&q

BuzzFeed India Launches New Original Podcast, Misunderstood The Assignment
Hollywood is still accepted as the movie capital around the world. Do you know there is a country that actually makes more movies than Hollywood? It's India and its "Bollywood" film industry.  But India isn't just known for movie-making. It is becoming a hub for making podcasts and listening to them. Consider this.  India’s podcast industry has amassed millions of new listeners over the past 12 months, with 81 percent of them having heard their first podcasts during the period, according to a recent survey by IVM Podcasts. Even during the pandemic lockdown, podcast consumption didn’t dip; if anything, it grew. The overdose of screen time meant podcasts were a good way to break away yet stay entertained or informed. So it's not a surprise that BuzzFeed India has launched a new original podcast called Misunderstood The Assignment, exploring the ups and downs of life as a twenty-something in India. The podcast is hosted by Shreya Shetty and features a mix of BuzzFeed

SMART BOMB
The completely unnecessary news analysis
by Christopher Smart
Jan. 3, 2023
UTAH'S 10 BEST NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS
1 – Sen. Mike Lee: Pretend not to know Trump's chief of staff, Mark Meadows.
2 – Sen. Mitt Romney: Pretend not to know Mike Lee.
3 – Rep. Burgess Owens: Concoct new ways Democrats are destroying America's soul.
4 – Mayor Erin Mendenhall: Ignore mayoral challenger Rocky Anderson.
5 – Former Mayor Rocky Anderson: Don't let Erin Mendenhall ignore you.
6 – Gov. Spencer Cox: Stop talking trash about the Outdoor Retailer trade show now that they're coming back to Utah despite Republican opposition to Bears Ears etc.
7 – A.G. Sean Reyes: Get invited to more international soccer matches. Say you're looking for trafficked women.
8 – Utah Senate President Stuart Adams: Go to more soccer matches with Reyes. Say it's for international trade.
9 – Utah Football Coach Kyle Wittingham: Ask for another raise, $6 million isn't nearly enough.
10 – LDS President Russell Nelson: Get a revelation that it's OK to say “Mormon” again.
ONLY LITTLE PEOPLE PAY TAXES
The cat's out of the bag: In 2016 and again in 2017, Donald Trump paid $750 in federal income taxes. Trump paid zero taxes in 10 of the previous 15 years. That's one helluva cat. As Leona Helmsley once said: “Only little people pay taxes.” Yes Wilson, you and the band are little people. For 2008 and 2009, Trump declared $1 billion in loses and got a $72.9 million refund from previous taxes. It's all on the up and up — or is it. Trump's taxes are such a can of worms that the IRS couldn't (or wouldn't) figure them out. One thing is for sure, tax accountants can be worth their weight in gold — yes, literally. According to the news organization, ProPublica, the 25 top American billionaires increased their wealth by $401 billion from 2014 to 2018, but paid a federal income tax rate of only 3.4 percent. The median American household earned about $70,000 annually and paid 14 percent in federal taxes. Jeff Bezos paid no federal income taxes for the years 2007 and 2011. His wealth increased by $127 billion from 2006 to 2018, while he paid a tax rate of 1.1 percent. Not only does Congress not care that the richest of the rich pay little to no taxes but they want to hang the dirty S.O.B. who leaked to ProPublica. Poor billionaires getting their dirty laundry aired out like that. What is the world coming to.
IT'S A BIRD, IT'S A PLANE — NO IT'S AN OLIGARCH
The weirdest thing, Russian elites just keep falling out of windows. That they were all critics of Vladimir Putin's war in Ukraine is just coincidental. And we thought Trump was mean. Imagine this headline: “Tragic coincidence, Mark Zuckerberg, Warren Buffett, Michael Bloomberg and Elon Musk all fell out of windows to their deaths.” Hmmm. Oh well, what are you going to do. That seems to be the attitude in Russia where at least a dozen big shots have died since the Ukraine incursion in March. The Dutch news network NOS described the coincidences as "a grim series of Russian billionaires, many from the oil and gas industries, who have been found dead in unusual circumstances...” In Putin's Russia, “unusual” is not so unusual. USA Today concluded that 38 Russian businessmen died mysteriously between 2014 and 2017. Darn the luck. Maybe it was Covid. Remember U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions, who recused himself from investigating Russian interference into the 2016 election. A furious Trump called him a “dumb Southerner” and “mentally retarded.” But Sessions didn't die mysteriously, although Trump did kill his career. Our politics may be blood sport, but in Putin's Russia there is little blood and no fingerprints but many coincidences.
Post script — That's it for another wonderful year here at Smart Bomb where we keep track of Donald Trump's legal problems so you don't have to. Let's see, there were all those top secret documents he spirited away to Mar-A-Lago; there's the little matter of Trump leading a coup to remain in power; in a recorded call he demanded the  Georgia secretary of state “find” enough votes to win that state; Trump still faces the possibility of criminal charges against him personally as part of the Manhattan D.A.'s Office investigation into fraud allegations. We could go on but there's only so much time in a day. Happy New Year, Mr. Trump. BREAKING NEWS! It rained in California and when it rains, it pours. Ain't it the truth. Last weekend's storm brought 70 inches of snow to Alta, Utah. From our “Stinkers”-file: George Santos, the recently elected Republican congressman from Long Island, has been caught lying — not just lying, but lying and lying and lying. You're right Wilson, we not sure that's news, either. And finally this from the letters to The Salt Lake Tribune: “In what universe does any rational life-form care about what is happening to the cast of the show 'The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City'? For the love of all that is holy, please stop reporting on their pathetic lives.”
Well Wilson, what do you think, is this year going to be better than 2022? Some good things did happen last year, it's just that the staff here at Smart Bomb can't think of any. You and the guys in the band usually have a pretty good attitude, like you're high on life... or something. So take us out with hopeful song for 2023:
What would you think if I sang out of tune Would you stand up and walk out on me? Lend me your ears and I'll sing you a song And I'll try not to sing out of key Oh I get by with a little help from my friends Mm I get high with a little help from my friends Mm gonna try with a little help from my friends What do I do when my love is away? Does it worry you to be alone? How do I feel by the end of the day? Are you sad because you're on your own? No I get by with a little help from my friends Mm I get high with a little help from my friends Mm gonna try with a little help from my friends Do you need anybody? I need somebody to love Could it be anybody? I want somebody to love Would you believe in a love at first sight? Yes I'm certain that it happens all the time What do you see when you turn out the light? I can't tell you, but I know it's mine Oh I get by with a little help from my friends Mm I get high with a little help from my friends Oh I'm gonna try with a little help from my friends (With A Little Help From My Friends — The Beatles)

That may not matter if the laws of intestacy match your wishes, but often the two diverge considerably, leaving difficult issues for your dependants. If you don’t have a will, you have no say in how your estate is distributed. And they could provide long term benefits:ġ. They need only one-off actions, so they should be easier to stick to. Here are four simple financial New Year’s resolutions. And to try to look beyond the short-term goals to longer term outcomes to boost the likelihood of sticking to them. Some people prefer to talk about intentions rather than resolutions. The problem is they all require you to make a change to your lifestyle, which is never easy, particularly in the dark days of mid-winter. Have your New Year resolutions fallen by the wayside yet? You know, the ones about eating better, drinking less and exercising more. When it began, the charge started at over £7,500 above the then threshold. That means that for 2019/20 the trigger matches the UK higher rate threshold. The income trigger for the HICBC remains at £50,000. It may be hoping to avoid a flood of letters from those affected. Unusually for HMRC, it is not looking for the taxpayer to provide a “reasonable excuse” before considering a refund. That was when HMRC announced it would be reviewing ‘Failure to Notify” penalties for 2013/14, 2014//16 “to customers who did not register for the High Income Child Benefit Charge” and therefore did not pay the HICBC tax. If proof were needed of the flaws in HICBC, it arrived in November 2018. Its introduction was poorly publicised, leaving many people – particularly PAYE earners – unaware of their potential liability. The HICBC represented an attempt to use the income tax system to withdraw child benefit from parent(s) (married or not) where one had income exceeding £50,000. It was, and remains, a classic example of the type of tax system tweaking beloved of Chancellors and disliked by those who have to deal with the consequences. The High Income Child Benefit Charge (HICBC), to give child benefit tax its correct name, was introduced in a rush by George Osborne – so much so that it began three months before the start of the 2013/14 tax year. These trials will involve a range of trade bodies and financial services organisations, including the main government initiated auto-enrolment scheme, NEST, which now has over seven million members.ħ January marked the fifth anniversary of the tax on child benefits, an imposition that is still not widely understood. In December the DWP announced that it would be running a programme of trials aimed at encouraging the self-employed to start saving. The DWP has calculated that in 2016/17, only about 1 in 7 of the self-employed were saving into a pension. Private pension coverage in this sector is low, despite the tax benefits on offer. According to the DWP, the self-employed account for about 15% of the UK workforce – 4.7 5 million people. However, there is one group of people that the automatic enrolment regime completely misses: the self-employed. Take-up rates have been much higher than some pundits had forecast – the latest calculation from the DWP showed that in 2016/17 the overall opt out rate was just 9%. Pension automatic enrolment has become a major success since it was launched nearly seven years ago, with almost 10 million people joining a workplace pension arrangement. The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is aiming to expand pension coverage among the self-employed. The Brexit-battered pound was weak during 2018, which flattered overseas returns.įilling the pensions hole for the self-employed Strip that out and the MSCI World Index ex-USA was down 11.2% in sterling terms, only marginally less than the main UK indices.Ģ. The US stockmarket, which forms about half of the World Index, was relatively strong. In sterling terms, the MSCI World Index was down 4.9%, much less than the main UK indices. However, whereas in 2017 stock markets seemed relatively unphased by events, the opposite was true in 2018. Both years had their fair share of dramas, with Brexit and Donald Trump sources of concern across the 24 months. During that year, the share markets generally produced positive returns with very little volatility. The world’s share markets mostly saw falls in 2018.Ģ018 was a very different year for investors from 2017. Wealth Management & Growth - Independent Financial Advisors, Sheffield

Experian doxes the world (again)
Tumblr media
The nonconsensually compiled dossiers of personal information that Experian assembled on the entire population of the USA may currently be exposed via dozens, perhaps hundreds, of sites, thanks to a grossly negligent security defect in Experian's API.
The breach was detected by Bill Demirkapi, a security researcher and RIT sophomore, and reported on by Brian Krebs, the excellent independent security reporter.
https://krebsonsecurity.com/2021/04/experian-api-exposed-credit-scores-of-most-americans/
Experian, like Equifax, has unilaterally arrogated to itself the right to collect, store and disseminate our personal information, and, like Equifax, it faces little regulation, including obligations not to harm us or penalties when it does.
Experian's API allows criminals to retrieve your credit info by supplying your name and address, information that is typically easy to find, especially in the wake of multiple other breaches, such as Doordash's 5m-person 2019 breach and Drizzly's 2.5m-person 2020 breach.
Demirkapi explains that the API is implemented by many, many sites across the internet, and while Experian assured Krebs that this bug only affected a single site, it did not explain how it came to that conclusion.
Demirkapi discovered the defect while he was searching for a student loan vendor. There is a way to defend yourself against this attack: freeze your credit report. Credit freezes were made free (but opt-in only) in 2018, after the Equifax breach.
https://krebsonsecurity.com/2018/09/credit-freezes-are-free-let-the-ice-age-begin/
Indeed, you may have already been thinking about the Equifax breach as you read this. In many ways, that breach was a wasted opportunity to seriously re-examine the indefensible practices of the credit-reporting industry, which had not been seriously scrutinized since 1976.
1976 was the year that Congress amended the Equal Credit Opportunity Act after hearing testimony about the abuses of the Retail Credit Company - a company that swiftly changed its name to "Equifax" to distance itself from the damning facts those hearings brought to light.
Retail Credit/Equifax invented credit reporting when it was founded in Atlanta in 1899. For more than half a century, it served as a free market Stasi to whom neighbors could quietly report each other for violating social norms.
Retail Credit's permanent, secret files recorded who was suspected of being gay, a "race-mixer" or a political dissident so that banks and insurance companies could discriminate against them.
https://www.jacobinmag.com/2017/09/equifax-retail-credit-company-discrimination-loans
This practice was only curbed when a coalition of white, straight conservative men discovered that they'd been misidentified as queers and commies and demanded action, whereupon Congress gave Americans limited rights to see and contest their secret files.
But these controls were never more than symbolic. Congress couldn't truly blunt the power of these private-sector spooks, because the US government depends on them to determine eligibility for Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
It's a public-private partnership from hell. Credit reporting bureaux collect data the government is not legally allowed to collect on its own, then sells that data to the government (Equifax makes $200m/year doing this).
https://web.archive.org/web/20171004200823/http://www.cetusnews.com/business/Equifax-Work-for-Government-Shows-Company%E2%80%99s-Broad-Reach.HkexS6JAq-.html
These millions are recycled into lobbying efforts to ensure that the credit reporting bureaux can continue to spy on us, smear us, and recklessly endanger us by failing to safeguard the files they assemble on us.
This is bad for America, but it's great for the credit reporting industry. The Big Three bureaux (Equifax, Experian and Transunion) have been on a decade-long buying spree, gobbling up hundreds of smaller companies.
These acquisitions lead directly to breaches: a Big Three company that buys a startup inherits its baling-wire-and-spit IT system, built in haste while the company pursued growth and acquisition.
These IT systems have to be tied into the giant acquiring company's own databases, adding to the dozens of other systems that have been cobbled together from previous acquisitions.
This became painfully apparent after the Equifax breach, so much so that even GOP Congressional Committee chairs called the breach "entirely preventable" and the result of "aggressive growth." But they refused to put any curbs on future acquisitions.
https://thehill.com/policy/technology/420582-house-panel-issues-scathing-report-on-entirely-preventable-equifax-data
A lot has happened since Equifax, so you may have forgotten just how fucked up that situation was. Equifax's IT was so chaotic that they couldn't even encrypt the data they'd installed. Two months later, they "weren't sure" if it had been encrypted.
https://searchsecurity.techtarget.com/news/450429891/Following-Equifax-breach-CEO-doesnt-know-if-data-is-encrypted
*Six months* before the breach, outside experts began warning Equifax that they were exposing our data:
https://www.vice.com/en/article/ne3bv7/equifax-breach-social-security-numbers-researcher-warning
The *only* action Equifax execs took? They sold off a shit-ton of stock:
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2018-03-14/sec-says-former-equifax-executive-engaged-in-insider-trading
The Equifax breach exposed the arrogance and impunity of the Big Three. Afterward, Equifax offered "free" credit monitoring to the people they'd harmed. One catch: it was free for a year; after that, they'd automatically bill you, annually, forever.
https://web.archive.org/web/20170911025943/https://therealnews.com/t2/story:19960:Equifax-Data-Breach-is-a-10-out-of-10-Scandal
And you'd pay in another way if you signed up for that "free" service: the fine print took away your right to sue Equifax, forever, no matter how they harmed you:
https://www.ibtimes.com/political-capital/equifax-lobbied-kill-rule-protecting-victims-data-breaches-2587929
The credit bureaux bill themselves as arbiters of the public's ability to take responsibility for their choices, but after the breach, the CEO blamed the entire affair on a single "forgetful" flunky:
https://www.engadget.com/2017-10-03-former-equifax-ceo-blames-breach-on-one-it-employee.html
Then he stepped down and pocketed a $90m salary that his board voted in favor of:
https://fortune.com/2017/09/26/equifax-ceo-richard-smith-net-worth/
Of course they did! His actions made the company so big that even after the breach, the IRS  picked it to run its anti-fraud. Equifax got $7.5m from Uncle Sucker, and would have kept it except that its anti-fraud site was *serving malware*:
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/equifax-irs-data-breach-malware-discovered/
Equifax eventually settled all the claims against it for $700m in 2019:
https://nypost.com/2019/07/19/equifax-agrees-to-pay-700m-after-massive-data-breach/
But it continued to average five errors per credit report:
https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2019/02/11/rep-alexandria-ocasio-cortez-takes-aim-equifax-credit-scoring/
And it continued to store sensitive user-data in an unencrypted database whose login and password were "admin" and "admin":
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/equifax-password-username-admin-lawsuit-201118316.html
Congress introduced multiple bills to force Equifax, Experian and Transunion to clean up their act.
None of those bills passed.
https://www.axios.com/after-equifaxs-mega-breach-nothing-changed-1536241622-baf8e0cf-d727-43db-b4d4-77c7599fff1e.html
The IRS shrugged its shoulders at America, telling the victims of Equifax's breach that their information had probably already leaked before Equifax doxed them, so no biggie:
https://thehill.com/policy/cybersecurity/355862-irs-significant-number-of-equifax-victims-already-had-info-accessed-by
Since then there have been other mass breaches, most recently the Facebook breach that exposed 500m people's sensitive data. That data can be merged with data from other breaches and even from "anonymized" data-sets that were deliberately released:
https://pluralistic.net/2021/04/21/re-identification/#pseudonymity
And while you can theoretically prevent your data from being stolen using the current Experian vulnerability by freezing your account, that's not as secure as it sounds.
Back in 2017, Brian Krebs reported that Experian's services were so insecure that anyone could retreive the PIN to unlock a frozen credit report by ticking a box on a website:
https://krebsonsecurity.com/2017/09/experian-site-can-give-anyone-your-credit-freeze-pin/
That was just table-stakes - it turned out that ALL the credit bureaux had an arrangement with AT&T's telecoms credit agency that was so insecure that *anyone* could unlock your locked credit report:
https://krebsonsecurity.com/2018/05/another-credit-freeze-target-nctue-com/
These companies came into existence to spy on Americans in order to facilitate mass-scale, racist, ideological and sexual discrimination. They gather data of enormous import and sensitivity - data no one should be gathering, much less retaining and sharing.
They handle this data in cavalier ways, secure in the knowledge that their integration with the US government wins them powerful stakeholders who will ensure that the penalties for the harm they inflict add up to less than profits those harms generate for their shareholders.
This is why America needs a federal privacy law with a "private right of action" - the ability to sue companies that harm you, rather than hoping that federal prosecutors or regulators will decide to enforce the law.
https://pluralistic.net/2021/04/16/where-it-hurts/#sue-facebook
Experian promises that this breach only affects one company that mis-implemented its API. We would be suckers to take it at its word. It didn't know about this breach until a college sophomore sent in a bug report - how would it know if there were others?

Fatima Shbair wins the Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award
© photo: Fatima Shbair / text: IWMF
Tumblr media
Brazilian and Iranian-Canadian women photographers also recognized
[September 29, 2021 – WASHINGTON, DC] – Today, the International Women’s Media Foundation presented Palestinian freelance photojournalist Fatima Shbair with the seventh annual Anja Niedringhaus Courage in Photojournalism Award. Since 2015, the international award has honored women photojournalists who take risks to capture humanity in dire circumstances, illuminating underreported and sometimes silenced stories. The prestigious award was created in honor of German Associated Press photojournalist Anja Niedringhaus, who was killed in Afghanistan in 2014.
Shbair’s portfolio rose above more than 100 applications that represented women photojournalists from more than 40 countries. At 24 years old, Shbair is the youngest winner of the ‘Anja Award’ to-date and is a self-taught, freelance photojournalist. Her portfolio, “11 Days of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict,” includes unique moments of tension, violence, devastation, and hope all captured from Gaza City in May 2021.
“Life here is different, and I had to find a way to [show] what was happening,” says Shbair from Gaza. “Despite successive wars and tragedies, people here dig deep in search of hope, and their lives matter – it’s my responsibility to convey their voices to the world.” Shbair continued: “Anja’s work gives us the determination to continue on the path despite the difficulties. I can’t find the words to describe how honored I feel to receive this award.”
The IWMF also recognized two other women photojournalists with honorable mentions in the competition: Brazilian photojournalist Adriana Zehbrauskas, currently working in Phoenix, Arizona, and Iranian-Canadian photographer Kiana Hayeri, who is based in Kabul, Afghanistan. Zehbrauskas’ portfolio included energetic yet sensitive portrayals of migration and the toll of COVID-19 in Latin America, while Hayeri’s work spotlighted the rising conflict and looming crisis in Afghanistan from an alternative perspective.
“Within the past two years so many communities worldwide have been pushed to the brink in order to survive,” says the IWMF’s Executive Director Elisa Lees Muñoz. “Anja’s focus on resilience, hope and the intimate struggles people face in times of crisis is a legacy we turn to now more than ever. The IWMF is thrilled to recognize this year’s winner, Fatima Shbair, as well as Kiana Hayeri and Adriana Zehbrauskas in Anja’s name.”
This year’s jury included Corinne Dufka, Jacqueline Larma, Robert Nickelsberg, Tara Pixley, and Bernadette Tuazon. Together, the committee issued the following statement on this year’s Anja Award selection: “The portfolios from this year’s winner and honorees draw in the viewer and continue to grow with impact and intimacy. Each photojournalist demonstrated remarkable tenacity and developed clear and close bonds with her subject, accessing what few photographers can convey. We congratulate Fatima, Adriana and Kiana on their remarkable work; Anja would be proud to recognize each of you.”
Anja Niedringhaus was a recipient of the IWMF Courage in Journalism Award in 2005. The winner’s $20,000 prize is made possible by the Howard G. Buffett Foundation. Honorees’ images and captions, biographies and headshots are available for media use with proper attribution; to inquire further, please contact Charlotte Fox ([email protected]).
Courage in Photojournalism Award Winner
This year’s winner, Fatima Shbair, is a Palestinian freelance photojournalist from Gaza City.
After studying business administration for three years at Al-Azhar University in Gaza, Shbair switched to study journalism and began concentrating on photojournalism in 2019 through independent study and working in the field.
In 2020, Shbair began to receive assignments from several international agencies, including Getty Images and The New York Times, to cover her hometown as tensions continued between Israel and Palestine. Her assignments increased in 2021 but came with the challenge of working during a global pandemic, which also strained and ravaged her own community. Shbair is currently a contributor to Everyday Middle East and continues her work with Getty Images. Her work has been exhibited in Palestine, the UAE, London, and Paris.
As a women photojournalist, Shbair’s gender and line of work are challenged daily, due to the conservative nature of society in Gaza, and the prevenance of male photojournalists in the industry.
Juror Dufka noted, “Fatima’s stunning photo essay is one of the strongest entries the jury had the pleasure of reviewing these past several years. Her work with light, angles, and composition is remarkable as she weaves through a forest of destruction in her own backyard.”
Juror Larma continued, “She clearly spent a great deal of time with her subjects and pursued what’s beyond obvious for most photojournalists. Within these 11 days, Fatima took the time to pursue intimate storytelling, showing us both the physical and emotional toll on her subjects while operating in extreme danger.”
From Gaza, Shbair further remarked: “Courage is not just about taking risks; being human first is the true courage of a photojournalist. It is a great honor to receive this award, especially in Anja’s image, as we are all still learning from her creativity, journey, and pursuit of the truth.”

Courage in Photojournalism Honorees
Honoree Kiana Hayeri was born and partially raised in Iran and was first introduced to photography in high school after her family moved to Canada. Hayeri left Toronto during her final year of university and traveled to Afghanistan on assignment in 2013, where she’s remained.
In 2021, Hayeri received the Robert Capa Gold Medal for her photographic series, “Where Prison is Kind of a Freedom,” documenting the lives of Afghan women in Herat Prison. In 2020, she received the Tim Hetherington Visionary award and was named as the 6th recipient of the James Foley Award for Conflict Reporting.
Hayeri was an IAAB fellow in 2011 and completed a CIS artist residency at MIT University in 2012. In 2014, she was named as one of the emerging photographers by PDN 30 Under 30. In 2016, she was selected for the IWMF’s cross-border reporting fellowship to work on her proposed story in Rwanda and DRC and was selected as the recipient of Chris Hondros Fund Award as an emerging photographer. In 2017, Hayeri received a grant from European Journalism Center to do a series of reporting on gender equality out of Afghanistan and received Stern Grant in 2018 to continue her work on the state of mental health among Afghan women.
Hayeri is a Senior TED fellow, and her work has appeared in The New York Times, Le Monde, Harper’s Magazine, Washington Post, NPR, Monocle Magazine, Wall Street Journal, Marie Clare, Glamour, The Globe and Mail, Al Jazeera America, and CBC, among others.
When reviewing Hayeri’s portfolio, Tuazon noted that, “These images can only be captured by a woman with her specific access and lens. Every single day in this portfolio demonstrates unbelievable courage as the women and children she illuminates convey a harrowing narrative.”

Adriana Zehbrauskas is a Brazilian documentary photographer based in Phoenix, Arizona. Her work is largely focused on issues related to migration, religion, human rights, underrepresented communities, and the violence resulting from the drug trade in Mexico, Central and South America.
Zehbrauskas contributes regularly to The New York Times, UNICEF and BuzzFeed News and her work has been widely published in outlets such as The New Yorker, The Washington Post, The Guardian, Stern, Le Monde and El País, among others.
She is the recipient of a 2021 Maria Moors Cabot Prize, a New York Press Club Award in Feature-Science Medicine and Technology in the Newspaper category for the article “Zika’s Legacy: Catastrophic Consequences of a Continuing Crisis (NY-2018) and a POY International (2019). She was a finalist for the Premio Gabo (2018) and received two Honorable Mentions at the Julia Margaret Cameron Award (2018).
Zehbrauskas is one of the three photographers profiled in the documentary “Beyond Assignment” (USA, 2011, produced by The Knight Center for International Media and the University of Miami. She’s a recipient of the first Getty Images Instagram Grant and was awarded Best Female Photojournalist -Troféu Mulher Imprensa (Brazil). Her mobile photography work was selected by Time Magazine for the “29 Instagrams That Defined the World in 2014″ and her project on Faith in Brazil and Mexico was awarded an Art & Worship World Prize by the Niavaran Artistic Creation Foundation.
She’s an instructor with the International Center of Photography (ICP- NY), the World Press Photo Foundation, Gabriel García Márquez’s Fundación Gabo, the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop and serves as a jury member to dozens of grants and awards worldwide.
Commenting on Zehbrauskas’ portfolio, juror Pixley said, “The strength of her images is indicative of a lengthy time occupying difficult spaces despite both health and safety concerns. Her consistency across countries, issues and movements reveals the same, unique human connection.”
