the vibes on this one are...odd. or maybe it’s just that i haven’t written one of these in a while (which makes the prompt quite apt, doesn’t it). for the @drarrymicrofic prompt: back on the saddle. thank you @phoebedelia for the helpful beta!
Harry doesn't date, and it's fine.
It's fine because he spends his time cleaning up Grimmauld Place and learning recipes from Molly and having meandering conversations with Luna that leave him confused, yet oddly at peace.
And he hangs out with Malfoy.
He's been doing a lot of that lately. While his friends venture into lust and love and other sundry things, he has drinks with Malfoy.
It's on one such day that Malfoy lets slip about a disappointing date he had with some bloke named Mark.
"What?" Harry interrupts, head reeling. Since when has Malfoy started dating? They don't do that, the two of them. Or so Harry had thought.
"My reaction exactly," Malfoy agrees. "I can't possibly go out with someone who thinks bloody Puddlemere United stands any chance against the Wasps."
Harry's got a thousand and one thoughts hurtling through his brain, shocked insights leading off onto incomplete tangents, so of course, he doesn't take a minute or even a second to properly mull things over. He jumps right in, some base, instinctive part of his brain insisting that this feels right, so therefore it is.
"Would you like to have dinner with me?" he blurts out, heart racing.
Malfoy blinks. "We often have dinner together, Potter," he says carefully.
Harry shakes his head impatiently. "You know what I mean. Properly. I'll dress up and everything."
Malfoy smiles slowly at that, his whole face lighting up with it. "Now that I cannot pass up on," he says, warmth and amusement warring in pewter grey eyes.
Harry leans back, unconsciously mirroring Malfoy’s smile. He didn’t date and that was fine– but this, this feels better than fine. It feels good.
