Some days I come into work and hear you had to put your pet down. Some days I hear you discovered your daughter is an addict. Some days you found out your husband is cheating on you. Some days I hear your mother is dying of cancer. Some days I cry with you and am thankful that you feel close enough to me to open up your life to me as a friend.

Other days I come into work and hear you just got engaged. Others I’II hear you and your husband are finally taking that vacation you’ve always wanted. I hear that the adoption is finally going through and you’re going to be a Dad! I hear you were approved for your house and can’t wait to move in. I hear only one more semester and you’re getting your degree. I get to cry with you when you show me your ultrasound pics after trying for 5 years.

One thing I’ve never done, is go to work and just “do hair.” And I wouldn’t trade it for the world. Thank you to each and every client I have that let’s me be so much more than a hairstylist!
