Why excavator engineers are progressively moving their strides to littler digital forms of money
Tumblr media
There are two primary purposes behind Bara. One is that the general market estimation of digital forms of money has slowly expanded to make creation mining machines beneficial. The other is that the opposition for bitcoin mining machines has warmed up and it is hard to win bitcoin.
It tends to be seen from the outline that the mining income of Bitcoin is extremely poor contrasted with the mining income of contending monetary standards, for the most part in light of the fact that Bitcoin mining is increasingly fluid and generally stable contrasted with other contending monetary standards. Be that as it may, as a result of the generally safe of Innosilicon A10 ETHMaster mining machine they have been mass-delivered and gained, and their profits are a lot of lower than their rivals' coin mining machines.
What's more, in spite of the fact that the S9 digger has been changed a few times, the chip has still utilized the 16NM procedure for over a year, and the figuring power has not been enormously improved (from 11.5T to 14T).
Clearly, except if there is an achievement all the while, it will be hard to fundamentally build the registering power. By and large, the second-level mining machine producers will likewise think that its hard to create chips that can rival Bitmain at a cost-restricted state.

Will ASIC diggers assault the blockchain for DECRED cash
As far as the first province of SIA, we can unmistakably observe that Bitmain is still increasingly proficient as far as deals of innosilicon A10 ETHMaster mining machines. At any rate, they didn't uncover SIA's cryptographic money before the deal. This is one reason why the SIA group was eager to settle.
Shouldn't something be said about the DECRED group? At that point we will initially present the model of DECRED cash. He is a digital money that will never experience a hard fork since they are a blended model of POS + POW and excavators, holders, and improvement groups all reserve the privilege to decide on which updates to make.
So it doesn't occur that the SIA group needs to turn out and proclaim whether to fan out to secure the blockchain.
In any case, contrasted with Innosilicon A10 ETHMaster, other mining machine makers don't appear to have a higher good standard. We can see from the trouble of DECRED's processing power.
Tumblr media
Despite the fact that the digging machine explicitly utilized for mining DCR isn't accessible, the universally useful mining machine has been discharged available to be purchased in mid-January. We can likewise feel the expansion in the trouble of DCR processing power from the graph, however it despite everything can't clarify the mid-Walk Where is the reason for the start of the flood in figuring power? Barra theorizes that it might be on the grounds that some ASIC mining machines have started to be on the racks.
numerous organizations utilizing chain squares and other purported advanced security record would have been dispersed exchange records, and handle other information by means of the Web. For instance, a Google administration can be utilized to guarantee clients that their data is ensured when put away on a colossal system of PC server servers that force cloud administrations.
One individual said that Letters in order Inc. (the parent organization of Google) is building up its own decentralized advanced record that outsiders can use to distribute and confirm exchanges. In spite of the fact that the planning of the item dispatch is muddled, the organization intends to offer this support of separate its cloud administrations from contenders. It will likewise give white-mark forms that permit different organizations to work on their own servers.
Tumblr media
The Web goliath has likewise been securing and putting resources into new companies with specific information on decentralized record.
Numerous exchanges have not yet been reported. Regardless of this, as indicated by inquire about firm CB Experiences, Letter set outflanked Citigroup and Goldman Sachs' blockchain endeavor speculators a year ago.
A few representatives in Google's foundation division answered to Diane Greene, the head of distributed computing, that they have been adjusting the blockchain convention as of late. Other Google insiders as of late said that cloud business and blockchain-related administrations are smart.
Since Google isn't prepared to make a declaration, respondents asked not to uncover their personality:
In the same way as other new advancements, we have various groups that are investigating the potential employments of blockchain, yet we are too soon to figure any potential uses or plans.

The subordinates trade was established in mid 2019 and gives proficient subsidiary exchanging items remembering quarterly and interminable agreements for different crypto resources, influence tokens and over-the-counter (OTC) administrations.
Since its establishing, FTX has developed to process practically a large portion of a billion dollars in every day exchanged volume, as per Binance.
As a vital accomplice, FTX will likewise assist Binance with building out its current liquidity and institutional item contributions, including its lead trade and OTC exchanging work area.

Elon Musk’s threat to leave California could cost Tesla $1 billion — and be worth it

We all know that Elon Musk talks a lot — and loosely. But what would it take to back up his bluster about moving Tesla to Texas or Nevada?
The 48-year old CEO of Tesla has been bickering on social media with California and Alameda County officials about reopening Tesla’s Fremont, California electric car manufacturing plant, on which the electric carmaker is unusually dependent, since its only other auto manufacturing plant is the newly-opened Gigafactory outside Shanghai. Recently, Musk took to Twitter to threaten to take his company and go home, if by home, he means new digs in either Nevada, or locations where Tesla is reportedly scouting locations for a new Cybertruck plant, Austin, Texas and Tulsa, Oklahoma.
“The unelected & ignorant ‘Interim Health Officer’ of Alameda is acting contrary to the Governor, the President, our Constitutional freedoms & just plain common sense,” Musk tweeted. “Frankly, this is the final straw. Tesla will now move its HQ and future programs to Texas/Nevada immediately.”
Moving the company’s factory would cost at least $1 billion given the costs associated with building a new facility, and could take 12 months to 18 months, said Dan Ives, who follows Tesla for Wedbush Securities. More to the point, Tesla would have to relocate thousands of employees. The company had 48,000 workers when it completed its most recent annual 10-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, but doesn’t say how many work in the Fremont plant.
California is ‘not worried’
The bigger problem would be the same as the reason Musk is so worked up about Fremont being closed for coronavirus in the first place, says CFRA Research analyst Garrett Nelson: it’s the only U.S. factory Musk has, and makes virtually all of the company’s vehicles for the U.S. market, including the old Model S and X lines, as well as the higher-volume Model 3 and the newly introduced Model Y crossover. Closing it any time soon would leave Tesla with too few options to build its products and generate revenue.
“We just don’t see it,” Nelson said. “It’s too expensive and they’re too dependent on the Fremont factory.”
California Governor Gavin Newsom told CNBC he doesn’t see it, either. Speaking on CNBC’s “Fast Money” on Tuesday night, he said he is “not worried” about Tesla CEO Elon Musk moving the company’s operations out of the state “anytime soon.”
“We’re committed to the success and the innovation and the low-carbon, green growth economy that he’s been promoting for decades and the state of California is accelerating in,” Newsom said in the “Fast Money” interview.
Tesla did not respond to requests for comment.
The potential billion-dollar price tag for a move wouldn’t be the biggest problem. Tesla also would face potential manufacturing disruptions during the moving process. The right location, if Musk is serious about moving either headquarters or the Fremont plant,  would likely be next to the factory where the company builds its upcoming Cybertruck pickup. Tesla is reportedly sifting offers from Texas, Oklahoma, and potentially other states, to host the plant, which would also produce Model Y vehicles.
That decision is expected to come soon, with Texas holding the edge, offering sites in the Austin area, where Tesla already has an engineering office,  said a report in green-economy Web site Electrek.
“Texas is the biggest pickup market in the country, 50% bigger than California, which is No. 2,” Nelson said.
Tesla closed the first quarter with $8.1 billion in cash and short-term investments on its balance sheet, after a year in which it established itself as solidly cash-flow positive. It also raised more than $2 billion in a stock offering in February.
Tesla’s success scoring fat state incentives
The company is also known to be pitting states against each other to offer fat incentives for the Cybertruck plant, as it has done before, said Greg LeRoy, executive director of Good Jobs First, a nonprofit watchdog that tracks corporate incentive deals and believes many of them are wasteful. Good Jobs First says Tesla has taken $2.4 billion in state and local incentives for different projects, mostly in upstate New York where it built a large solar panel plant, and Nevada where its battery plant is located, and would likely seek subsidies to move headquarters or shift Fremont’s production elsewhere.
When Tesla picked Nevada for its gigafactory battery plant near Reno in 2014, the company committed to pick up only about $2 billion of the $4 billion to $5 billion capital cost, according to Tesla’s 2014 10-K filing.
Nevada gave the company $195 million in transferable tax credits in exchange for a commitment by Tesla and battery partner Panasonic to exchange at least $3.5 billion in the plant. If Tesla meets other targets, it can claim as much as $1.3 billion in state tax breaks over 20 years, most of it in sales and use tax abatements, according to Good Jobs First.
Some states may finally say, ‘enough, we’re looking at a fiscal cliff.’ Others will go  the other way, [thinking] there aren’t going to be many big expansions available so we’d better come loaded for bear.
Greg LeRoy
executive director of Good Jobs First
The Fremont factory itself was initially financed in part by a federal loan guarantee as part of the 2009 economic stimulus, which Tesla later repaid to prevent Washington from cashing in warrants to buy stock at less than 1% of today’s stock price.
Car factories are major employers whose owners usually get states to make generous offers, LeRoy said. In Tesla’s case, incentives could include credits against Texas’ gross receipts tax that could, over time, obliterate much or all of its investment.
Car companies can also often get sales tax breaks on materials or equipment used to build and outfit their factories, he added, and governments will often build infrastructure to suit them. Texas upgraded rail facilities to nab a Toyota pickup truck plant in San Antonio, which later helped the state convince Toyota to move its U.S. headquarters to suburban Dallas from California.
“There are two ways the pandemic may play out,” for state-sponsored incentives, LeRoy said. “Some states may finally say, ‘enough, we’re looking at a fiscal cliff.’ Others will go  the other way, [thinking] there aren’t going to be many big expansions available so we’d better come loaded for bear.”
Tesla could also make back its capital spend on lower operating costs, said Calandra Cruickshank, CEO of Statebook, a data provider to economic development organizations and private companies. Depending on how many jobs move, the company could capture hundreds of millions of dollars of operating savings, with big savings on production workers, who are 25% more expensive in Oakland than Austin, and electricity costs half as high,  she said in an analysis provided to CNBC.com.
“If 10,000 employees moved and the company saved $25,000 per worker in payroll and benefit costs (which is not unreasonable given there’s zero personal income tax in Texas and in most places a lower cost of living), that alone would be $250 million a year year in savings, exclusive of any government subsidies,” said Mike Grella, former economic development director for Amazon.com, who is now head of  consulting firm Grella Partnership Strategies.
Stock analysts think Musk is probably bluffing. Ives thinks that, if Musk is serious, the factory is likelier to move than the headquarters, partly because of the difficulty of replacing the white-collar workers at Tesla’s Palo Alto headquarters..
While Governor Newsom doesn’t think Tesla’s going anywhere soon as a corporation, Ives said given the high cost of manufacturing in northern California, he sees a business case.
“Texas gives them a significantly shorter supply chain,” Ives said. That includes proximity to other auto plants, such as Toyota’s pickup plant in San Antonio, and car manufacturing operations throughout the southern U.S. that rely on more closely located industry suppliers, from Mexico and elsewhere, as well as stronger transportation network links.  “The cost per vehicle could go down by 10% to 25%. The writing is on the wall that they are going to do more production in another U.S. facility,” he said.
Nelson thinks moving corporate would make more sense than auto manufacturing, mainly because of the cost to move a huge manufacturing facility or construct a new one, as well as productivity impacts, since Tesla may lose a number of trained workers in the process because workers and their families may not be willing to move. “We think Tesla will instead focus on building new factories in Germany and the U.S., and not tinker with disrupting operations at the plant which accounts for over 70% of their current vehicle production capacity,” Nelson said.

A Discussion of Some SEO Trends in 2020
In a rapidly evolving digital ecosystem, SEO or Search Engine Optimization plays a key role in driving traffic and in ensuring the relevance of a product or a service until it becomes a well-established and respected brand. While there are several search engines around, it is no doubt that Google is the giant in this market with a roughly 88% share of global search queries as of 2019.
So, what are the trends to expect in SEO in 2020? What factors are considered favorable and what will outweigh others? Let us look at these from the perspective of positioning a brand on Google search.
In a recent presentation, Google has identified some key areas of ranking for SEO. These are broadly categorized as Content, Popularity, Technical and User Experience. Of these, user experience drives the other three. Under content comes further divisions like text, video, interactive content, etc, popularity deals with links, mentions, brand search, etc, technical SEO deals with security, indexing structured data and finally, user experience deals with bounce rate, trust, search journey, etc.
While some of the above are quantifiable, others are not and need special tools and techniques to find the same and ensure a fair analysis and ranking. Below, we will discuss four important factors that will drive the SEO trends for 2020.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a key factor
Artificial intelligence is an area of computer science that deals with the development of intelligent machines. Thus, AI systems will be groomed to do tasks normally requiring human intelligence, like decision-making, object identification, and speech recognition, among others.
According to Alphabet's CEO Sundar Pichai, 'AI is more important than fire or electricity' and this shows the emphasis the company places on this concept. Given the explosive growth of the Internet, web pages and web traffic, the use of AI to classify, rank and sort web pages have been the norm at Google. This trend is expected to not only continue but evolve to higher levels, especially with the advent of other factors like voice search and machine learning.
Optimizing websites for voice search
Smart phones have become ubiquitous and the trend is only set to rise. Add to the mix voice assistants, wearable and the convenience experienced with the same. This is a classic case of user experience and convenience driving a change and this will affect how we look at SEO directly. Websites need to be optimized to help voice search if organic SEO rankings are to be achieved. The connotation of the search really matters to throw the right or expected result and content should really adapt to this emerging trend. Now that will move us to the next point.
Content... Content... Content
High quality, engaging and useful content is more important. Nay, most important! Simply lifting off stuff from the Internet will not work and Google has evolved to not only identify plagiarised content but also proceeding to blacklist such websites. Since the entire process is driven by artificial intelligence supported by a lot of factors, the days of manipulating search engines are long past. Content can also now take a variety of forms like blog posts, videos, ideographic and the like and this variety is what drives engagement as it makes things interesting for the reader to read. Millennials and Gen Z prefer videos as a medium of communication and the rise of Tiktok is an attestation to the same. To enhance SEO optimization through videos, one of the keys will be to a good headline, suitable keywords in the description and of course, ensuring that the video is itself engaging!
Delivering a memorable digital experience
The user interface created, and user experience communicated are the main factors defining a digital experience. Users have become increasingly impatient and not only want ready information but also one that is easy to digest and quick to reach. Hence, even if your website carries the best of content, if it is clumsy to navigate or takes aeons to load, you can wave an organic SEO placement goodbye. The importance of good user experience is explained beautifully in this article.
Overall, we can draw comfort from the fact that shortcuts and ways to game the system are slowly being eliminated, if not completely. Thus, proper methods of web development, especially one that cares for the audience, and websites developed with a fundamental understanding of user needs in mind are sure to emerge a winner.

Left Holding the Sand Bag
Who will Pay for the Damage Caused by Rising Sea Levels?
It Could be You.
San Jose Mercury News: "From Antioch to North Richmond to Redwood City, a gradually rising Bay could jeopardize the properties of upwards of 270,000 Bay Area inhabitants sand bags nz
Tumblr media
Be that as it may, shockingly, couple of urban areas are making a move" [1]
"November 5, 2008...In the occasion of anticipated flooding sandbags are accessible at the Benicia Corporation Yard 2400 East second Street and the East E Street parking garage (over the road from the Benicia Yacht Club). Some help might be accessible however inhabitants ought to carry scoops and plan to fill and load the sacks themselves." [2]
Flooding in urban communities in and around San Francisco Bay isn't simply negligible hypothesis. It has happened ordinarily previously and it will happen over and over if ocean levels keep on rising or a "flawless" storm gets together with typical elevated tides. It's anything but difficult to perceive any reason why. An intriguing outcome happens when you take a gander at forecasts of the principal regions around the straight that will flood if the ocean rises. What you find are those regions most inclined to flooding are the numerous areas where the cove was initially filled to make lodging and business advancements. These low-lying zones Redwood Shores, Alameda, Vallejo, Alviso and numerous others-were narrows base and tidelands only a couple of decades back. Presently there is lodging and the flood threat is self-evident.
What's more, a large number of new homes are anticipated for at least twelve significant improvements being proposed for extra tidelands and other low-lying areas around the straight. [3]
"In any event 12 significant improvements with upwards of 56,000 new homes are arranged at the edge of the Bay throughout the following 5 to 20 years...many are in low-lying zones specialists state are possibly helpless against flooding related with long haul ocean level ascent. A few urban communities and districts have techniques to manage that issue, others don't." [4]
In any case, what is distinctive today is that a considerable lot of these new improvements will be worked as network affiliations and a great part of the costly built offices important to shield these advancements from tempests, rising tides and ocean levels won't be possessed by urban communities and districts, however rather will be the duty of property holders.
We have seen the pattern in the course of recent years. Avenues, storm sewers, parks, parking garages, walkways, in more established improvements are possessed and kept up by neighborhood urban areas and provinces utilizing charge dollars raised from an a lot more extensive duty base. In more up to date extends these are rather the obligation of generally little proprietor's affiliations. The coming of the network affiliation was a help to impose starved nearby governments who considered them to be an approach to advance improvement and new duty dollars while staying away from its costs.
Also, the proposed new advancements around San Francisco Bay will entice neighborhood urban areas and provinces to vest a great part of the obligation the fundamental flood control upgrades to nearby network affiliations or little, unique locale. Duty regarding levees, embankments, siphons, riprap, and holding dividers worked by the engineers of these activities could in the long run end up kept up and fixed by property holder affiliations.
The beginnings of the move of obligation from governments to landowners, one that has just been utilized generally is the utilization of nearby improvement, levee, or recovery regions. A great part of the Sacramento delta, an arrangement of bogs and islands on which increasingly lodging is being assembled and proposed, is kept up by such "unique" evaluation regions, not the state or neighborhood urban areas or regions. The citizens inside those areas pay for all levee upkeep and fix work. Initially these areas were shaped to give landowners semi administrative authority over their properties, however it additionally moved financial duty away from bigger wards and their more extensive base of citizens.
A huge network affiliation works in a fundamentally the same as way responsibility for works is given to the affiliation when improvement is finished, and the proprietors, through appraisals, pay for the progressing upkeep and fix. Practically speaking, there isn't a lot of distinction between a network affiliation and an exceptional locale.
So urban areas and districts, which increase extensive tax breaks from new advancement, have had the option to move the long haul obligation regarding the expense of keeping up upgrades related with that improvement to property proprietors. This is finished with either extraordinary locale or network affiliations, contingent on whether the open enhancements serve one or various individual advancement activities.
Engineers additionally maintain a strategic distance from long haul obligation regarding such undertakings. The homes and structures inside the improvement are auctions off in the close to term. The designer takes the benefits and is shielded from long haul risk by both the appraisal systems that move the expense of fixes to proprietors, yet in addition by different resolutions of constraint that cut off lawful obligation in only a couple of years after the task is finished.
From that point onward, the property proprietors inside the affiliation, or inside the nearby exceptional locale, are individually. So similarly as the risk for finishing, lanes, parks, even schools and shaky slopes have been moved to neighborhood property holders as of late, there is no motivation behind why the flood control upgrades important to manufacture lodging on previous tidelands couldn't be comparably vested in the purchasers of the majority of this new lodging. The support and fix commitments start promptly, however after some time, these components may demonstrate lacking to hinder the unavoidable ascent in ocean level, leaving property proprietors on the snare for significantly more.
We have composed ordinarily about the approaching disappointment of network relationship to keep pace with the developing expense of keeping up even basic regular region segments however would you be able to envision what will occur if considerably more complex, also basic, upgrades are to be kept up exclusively by proprietor appraisals - that levees and holding dividers, fundamental to keeping the waters of San Francisco Bay from flooding hundreds or maybe a large number of homes, will be reliant upon the readiness of individual mortgage holders and their relationship to give satisfactory financing? It's one thing to release the arranging to seed or to enable chuckholes to exist in the parking area, however a disintegrating straight levee is at another danger level by and large. builders mix
Anybody worried about these new straight shore advancement recommendations ought to pose the city one basic inquiry: "Who will be liable for keeping these flood control enhancements working in the years to come?"
Try not to be astounded by the appropriate response.

Berkeley Lab Software to Optimize Ja magento webdesign  il Microgrid

Residents of northern California won’t have to worry about prisoners escaping from the Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail in the event of a major earthquake. This “mega-jail” has its own microgrid that is being optimized by scientists from the Berkeley Lab using software they developed called DER-CAM.
When the next “big one” hits northern California, chances are good that the power will be knocked out across large swaths of the Bay Area. But one place that is likely to stand unaffected is Alameda County’s Santa Rita Jail in Dublin, California, the third largest jail in the state and fifth largest in the country. If all goes according to plan, this “mega-jail,” housing about 4,000 inmates, will seamlessly disconnect itself from the electric grid and switch over to its own microgrid, powering itself for the duration.
Scientists at the Department of Energy’s Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (Berkeley Lab) are using software they developed called DER-CAM (Distributed Energy Resources-Customer Adoption Model), which looks at electricity and heat requirements, to help analyze and develop an optimal plan for the Jail to meet its needs at minimum cost.
“Microgrids have several promising advantages,” said Berkeley Lab scientist Chris Marnay. “Number one is that they can be tailored to local requirements, so in the case of the jail, the microgrid can help them achieve the extreme reliability their mission demands.”

This demonstration project—led by Chevron Energy Solutions and funded in part by a $6.9 million grant from the Department of Energy with additional funding from the California Energy Commission, the California Public Utilities Commission and others—is aimed at modernizing the nation’s electricity grid. Berkeley Lab is collaborating with a number of additional entities on the project, including Alameda County, Pacific Gas & Electric, the University of Wisconsin, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory. The microgrid at the jail became operational at the end of the last year and is to be unveiled on March 22.
As Hurricane Irene and other natural disasters have shown, blackouts can cause severe disruptions and major financi inhandnetworks al losses. “Without power you don’t have phones, transportation, water treatment and so on. And without communications other things don’t work,” said Marnay, who leads the jail project for Berkeley Lab. “The motivation for doing localized generation is in part to survive outages and improve local power quality.”
The Santa Rita Jail has intensive electricity needs, with peak demand reaching about 3.0 megawatts (MW), so energy efficiency has long been part of the Jail’s strategy. Various energy efficiency measures over the past 20 years have effectively lowered the jail’s electrical needs by 40 percent. To lower its reliance on the grid, the jail boasts a 1.2-MW rooftop solar system (which was the largest in the U.S. when installed in 2002), a 1-MW molten carbonate fuel cell, and five small wind generators.
The microgrid’s newly installed 2-MW lithium ferrous phosphate battery can carry the load during a power outage without turning on backup generators. During long outages, when the battery’s storage is depleted, the microgrid will turn on the generators at full speed, and effectively power the jail and simultaneously charge the batteries.
The DER-CAM software was used to come up with an optimal schedule for charging and discharging the battery so as to minimize costs. Based on this analysis and other research, DER-CAM is already being used to directly control the large solar thermal system in the Mechanical Engineering Building on the University of New Mexico campus. The same approach has also been selected by the U.S. Department of Defense to optimize charging of a fleet of plug-in electric vehicles to be deployed at the Los Angeles Air Force Base.
“We are excited to be hosting one of the first-of-its-kind, large-scale microgrids,” said Matt Muniz, Alameda County’s Energy Program Manager. “We believe that this demonstration project will successfully exhibit the numerous advantages of microgrids and will be a model for both public agencies and private companies to emulate.”
The batteries are also used to provide energy storage, allowing the jail to buy electric wastewater treatment  ity during less expensive off-peak times and minimize the jail’s energy consumption during the peak periods in the summer. When the fuel cell, solar panels, and wind turbines are operating, they will be integrated by the microgrid to maximize their utilization in powering the jail.
The technology that allows the microgrid to seamlessly disconnect itself from the grid and function as an island and then reconnect is the CERTS Microgrid, which was developed by the Consortium for Electric Reliability Technology Solutions at the University of Wisconsin under a decade-long research program managed by Berkeley Lab.
In future work funded by the California Energy Commission, Berkeley Lab’s Demand Response Research Center will explore options for the jail to control its loads to further lower costs and potentially provide support to the grid.
Of course, the microgrid can also function when it’s connected to the grid, allowing the Jail to reduce its electricity bill as well as lowering the load on the local electricity distribution network. “Part of this grant is to demonstrate the ability to lower the electrical load on the neighboring PG&E feeder, which is the part of the of the electricity distribution system from the substation to the meter,” Marnay said. “So the Jail can coordinate with nearby loads such that the overall peak load on that feeder is reduced, which is another way of saying that it provides a big financial benefit to the utility because it postpones them having to upgrade their equipment to increase capacity.”
Besides reliability, microgrids offer several other advantages. One is that they can be tailored to take advantage of local resources, such as the sun or wind. Integrating small and uncontrollable renewables into our legacy grid is tricky because of the requirement that supply and demand must constantly be in balance while these resources vary continuously.
“This thinking leads to the most controversial advantage, by far, which is that we may be able to live with a less reliable grid because highly sensitive loads, such as the Jail, are served in a more localized fashion,” Marnay said. “To me, that’s where the huge advantage lies, in unshackling the traditional grid. With our current system, the grid has no feasible way to differentiate and prioritize between a recharging iPhone and hospital life-saving equipment.”
Along with hospitals and university campuses, another sector very interested in microgrids is the military, for which energy security and reliability are paramount. Earlier last year, DOE announced new steps to enhance cooperation with the Department of Defense (DOD) on clean energy and energy security, including cost effective energy storage. Marnay’s next bi wireless m2m g project at the Los Angeles Air Force Base is only one of several current and planned DOD microgrid demonstrations.

10 TO WATCH/5 SPORTS TECH/POWER OF SPORTS: RICK HORROW’S TOP SPORTS/BIZ/TECH/PHILANTHROPY ISSUES FOR THE WEEK OF SEPT. 10: Mayors edition
with Tanner Simkins
With the 2018-2019 NFL season finally here, a few key questions are left to be answered this season. According to SportsBusiness Journal, the NFL has seen its TV viewership fall the past two seasons, leaving the league scrambling to buck that trend. Many in the industry noted that they expect declines for a third consecutive year, noting that it is uncertain “as to whether there is anything the league can do to fix the issue.” From a change in delivery, going from traditional broadcast to OTT and streaming services, to “increased competition for screen time,” some of the industry’s top executives are predicting a yearly decline in the “5-7%” range stemming from a multitude of factors, particularly those previously listed. Apart from TV ratings, the league is still dealing with problems related to head trauma and player safety, while also trying to combat the decline in youth participation. Unrest at the top of its broadcast partner companies likely doesn’t help NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell slumber either – most recently the ouster of CBS Chairman Les Moonves on Sunday.
The meaty main course of college football’s opening week has come and gone and now it’s time for dessert – across the U.S., top teams are being treated to pricey cupcakes. According to USA Today, roughly $175 million will exchange hands between college football’s haves and have nots to fill out nonconference menus in 2018, mostly during the first few weeks of September. In Week 2 alone, Arkansas State collected $1.7 million to travel to Tuscaloosa for a beat down by Alabama, and Western Michigan pocketed $1.2 million from No. 21 Michigan (out of a total $4.6 million the Wolverines will give away during their nonconference schedule). But the cupcake revenue wars may well be won by Kent State, which will pocket $3.65 million in appearance fees via treks to Illinois, Penn State, and Ole Miss. In the words of Jackie Gleason, how sweet is.
Group1001 and IndyCar rookie driver Zach Veach have announced a partnership with leading education technology company EVERFI, Inc that will bring hands-on STEM teaching to classrooms nationwide and inspire the next generation of engineers. The interactive STEM program, called Endeavor, introduces middle and high school students to exciting careers in technical fields and uses gamified lessons to encourage and prepare students for a career in STEM. As part of the course experience, students will virtually hear Veach talk about his passion for STEM education, the incredible amount of technology that he leverages while piloting his race car, and the critical role his engineering and pit crew teams play in powering his performance. Said Dan Towriss, CEO of Group1001, “We know that initiatives at the intersection of sports and education bring positive social change and can help the next generations of learners prepare to solve the challenges of tomorrow through STEM. As the first auto sports driver to join EVERFI’s impressive roster of athlete ambassadors, Zach is the perfect role model for kids. He has an unmatched passion and dedication to what he does and is now using his understanding of math and engineering to begin achieving his dreams as an Indy driver.” Interesting to note that 80% of the nation’s fastest-growing careers require skills from one or more STEM fields – both outside and inside of sports.
The Oakland Raiders could be leaving the Bay Area sooner than expected. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the Oakland City Council has “authorized a multimillion-dollar antitrust lawsuit against the NFL and the Raiders over the team’s impending move to Las Vegas.” Team executives have already stated that they will not sign any future lease agreement at the aging Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum should the lawsuit be filed. The lawsuit “will likely seek millions of dollars in damages for the team’s exit” to Las Vegas; Oakland Councilman Noel Gallo noted that the lawsuit could result in up to $500 million in damages being paid out by the NFL and the Raiders. The franchise is currently under a year-to-year lease with the Coliseum Authority, but is in a temporary bind pending the construction of its new stadium in Nevada. One possible alternative to staying in Oakland any longer could be playing home games at the San Francisco 49ers’ Levi’s Stadium, though Owner Mark Davis “can’t stand Levi’s Stadium.” Regardless of where the Raiders play next year, Oakland fans no doubt wish one Raiders fixture still called the Bay Area home: star pass rusher Khalil Mack, just dealt to the Chicago Bears for $141 million.
Despite failing to break back into the NFL, former San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick is the new face of Nike’s 30th anniversary “Just Do It” campaign. According to the New York Times, Kaepernick recently signed a new, multiyear deal with Nike as his previous one, signed back in 2011, was about to expire. Instead of dropping him from the company payroll, Nike re-signed the former NFLer, made him the star of the new campaign, and donated money to his “Know Your Rights” campaign. Nike elected to do so as a way to give the politically-outspoken icon a “larger platform”; his message of standing up for what he believes in still resonates with athletes and fans all around the country. The first ad shows a close-up black and white photo of his face and reads: “Believes in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything.” Since tweeting the photo on his account, the campaign has generated at least $43 million in free advertising for Nike. Research conducted by Edison Trends has also revealed that Nike’s online sales surged 31% Sunday-Tuesday – a noteworthy measure for any campaign.
A recent report from Nielsen boldly states that a fully mature U.S. sports gambling market could be worth as much as $2.3 billion to the NFL. According to ESPN.com, the report, commissioned by the American Gaming Association, assumes that following the Supreme Court’s decision to legalize sports betting in all 50 states, media rights fees, sponsorships by betting operators of teams, ancillary advertising, and the purchasing of official league data are all set to increase going forward. The report does not factor in “integrity fees,” where the league would receive a fixed percentage of the total amount bet on NFL games. The report projects that the annual purchasing of league data alone would contribute $30 million per year to the NFL’s top line. The AGA is not opposed to “the idea of betting operators purchasing the official league data,” but is opposed to the idea of operators being forced to do so. The sports gambling market is still in a state of infancy, with years to go until it fully matures, though the outlook is positive for the NFL here.
The Arizona Cardinals have a new naming rights sponsor: State Farm. According to SportsBusiness Journal, the Cardinals have signed State Farm to an 18-year deal, replacing the University of Phoenix as the stadium’s title sponsor. The value of State Farm’s new deal has not yet been disclosed, though the University of Phoenix was paying between $8-9 million per year since signing on in 2006. News of this deal comes less than a week after the Atlanta Hawks announced State Farm as their new naming rights partner, changing from Philips Arena to State Farm Arena for this coming season. The 20-year deal is reportedly worth $175 million over its lifetime, making it the fifth-largest naming rights deal in the NBA currently. “We think these give a far broader audience than we’ve ever had,” commented State Farm Exec Vice President and Chief Agency Sales & Marketing Officer Rand Harbert on the two deals. “In both cities, these will help us to connect, and not only fly the brand flag, but to do good.” Now, the 0-1 Cardinals need to win a few games before State Farm changes its mind.
A group from Seattle is set to present to the NFL’s executive committee next month regarding a potential expansion franchise. According to the Seattle Times, the meeting with take place on October 2, “and if the presentation meets approval, the full NHL BOG would vote in December in Florida on whether to award the city an expansion franchise.” If given a team, the ownership group would have to pay an expansion fee of $650 million before starting play. The ownership group, commonly known as NHL Seattle, comprises some of the area’s most successful businessmen, including MLS Sounders Owner Adrian Hanauer, Chris and Ted Ackerley — whose father was a longtime Sonics owner — Amazon Web Services CEO Andy Jassy, and BDA CEO Jay Deutsch. Boston Celtics minority Owner David Bonderman gives the potential franchise another touchpoint in professional sports, lending additional credibility to the group with the hope of impressing the executive committee next month.
Nashville’s MLS expansion team finally has concrete and approved plans to build a soccer-specific stadium. According to the Nashville Tennessean, it has been months in the making, but the city’s Metro Council gave “final approval to three ordinances and a resolution for a much-debated $275 million” stadium at the Fairgrounds Nashville, just south of downtown. The team’s MLS debut is set for 2020, with the stadium expected to be open by February 2021. The approval from the council now means that it can issue $225 million in “revenue improvement bonds for the stadium” — the ownership group, led by publishing magnate John Ingram, will pay $9 million per year over a 30-year period to repay the bonds. In addition to building the 27,500-seat stadium, construction plans call for a 10-acre mixed-use development with housing, retail, and a hotel built on the Fairgrounds site. Nashville over the last decade has developed quite the hipster reputation – an MLS franchise will only boost its appeal with millennials and their soccer-happy younger siblings.
David Beckham is one step closer to finally having his long-awaited MLS franchise in Miami after revealing the team’s name, colors, and crest. According to the Miami Herald, Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami is the official name of the expansion franchise, which still lacks a finalized stadium site to build on. The front and back pages of the Miami Herald were printed pink with the club’s logo in the center of the page, boldly announcing the team’s arrival. “This is such a proud day for myself and for the entire team,” team owner and president of operations David Beckham said. “It’s an honor to announce the new name and crest to our fans — we are taking another important step in establishing our Club and today marks an important moment in the history of Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami.” The team’s name is meant to pay homage to the diverse population that constitutes Miami and Southern Florida as a whole. Inter Miami CF, the club’s shortened name, is set to begin play in 2020. No doubt, the club will add to Miami’s long and colorful sports legacy, of which I have been proud to have played a part.

Want To Buy A Home Security Door? 4 Things To Consider
You want to keep your home & family safe in fact everyone want so. While there're many steps can be taken to enhance the security of your home, investing on a home security door is probably the most important one to consider. However, before you rush through & buy your first secure door, there are quite a few things you must take into account. Let's find out what are they:
Not all secure doors in Ireland are made equally:
You will wish to make your research prior to purchasing a door. Check out doors that are made from welded steel or iron doors that possesses tamper-resistant attributes, and also top-quality locks & strong hinges. You also have the option of considering a custom iron door that's specially engineered for your house. Not just buying a quality secure door in Ireland make your property more secure, but it will also discourage would-be intruders, who'll see that your house is well-secured.
You don't need to forfeit look for security:
When you think about security doors for your home, you may visualize ugly, clunky, or institutional-looking doors. But if you're in the market to buy a door, you've several choices when it is about style. In the current market, homeowners can have access to security doors in an extensive range of colors, designs and finishes. For a more appealing look, you can invest on a custom iron door that's engineered to ideally match the style of your home.
Don't solely depend on online research:
No doubt the web is a fine place to begin if you are planning to buy a new security door for your home. But it must not be your sole or even main form of research. After you have done a little online research & have a universal idea of what you wish in your would-be security door, check in a few local door firms. Have a glance at different available models, get a price quote and then make your choice. Even if you have made up your mind to purchase secure doors online, it is always useful to have a look at the doors in person so that you can get an idea of what you are getting.
Buy your security door from a firm that provides installation:
No doubt, you could possibly install a door yourself by checking a few YouTube videos, but you mayn't do it pretty well as a professional can do. And an inappropriately fitted door possibly won't do what it is believed to do. An expert will execute a better work of fitting your new door, making certain the frame is properly fitted & that the door fits comfortably in it. Hiring a professional will pay off in long run and not to say give you the peace of mind.
