Genuine question, how did you manage to get around geoff's voice in order to enjoy Thursday? Or have you always liked his voice? I just can't,, see the appeal from what I've tried to listen to, which sucks especially bc I recently thrifted two Thursday cds on a whim (waiting and kill the house lights bc it came with a dvd LMAO 😫)-- and I just can't mcfuckin do it with his voice, like am I missing something???
haha i mean honestly that's a fair question! i never hated geoff's voice but i definitely had to get used to it, especially since i started with full collapse (and did not get into thursday right away because of it lol).
if you're trying to get into thursday listening to waiting and kill the house lights i can see how that would make things difficult!! those are two of their less accessible records imo (i mean i love them so much and dying in new brunswick was my most listened song of 2022 but. yeah). i always recommend not listening to waiting until you actually like geoff's voice LMAO it's not very um. polished there. but when waiting (and also full collapse) came out, thursday was much more known for their live shows than for their music (& geoff had a reputation for not singing very good live).
if you're looking to learn to love geoff's voice i would recommend spending some time listening to some of their later records. no devolucion, their last record, was the one that actually first captured my attention and made me love thursday. besides no dev being a masterpiece, geoff's vocals are a little more clean and obscured there (which is what makes it accessible to people who aren't that acquainted with the rougher edges of post-hardcore). if that works, i'd recommend listening to city by the light divided or common existence next!
(you could also try listening to one million geoff podcasts and form an unhealthy attachment to his voice?)
anyways don't feel like you have to love thursday! it's not for everyone for sure. you can definitely appreciate thursday's contributions to post hardcore etc without listening to them all the time!
