3x08, part 2.

The first thing I notice? Jamie. :) That boy can't sit straight or stand still. <3 (Also Jan, heh.) And Jamie's so fond of Henry. Surprisingly good with kids, yeah, and it's wonderful that Jamie pays him so much attention while being Henry's fav player.

All the boys are smiling and cheering for the kid, this so incredibly wholesome. Even the ones that aren't exactly participating are still smiling. I love this show, man. I rewatched this moment at least 7 times. I would like to be Henry in that moment, please.

I also can't get over the "I got that all covered" line and the cut to the boys just being boys and having the time of their life out on the pitch with Henry. Perfect training & Rebecca being more than ok with that. :') I need gifs of this. I need a cut of this scene only so I can have it on my blog with the boys cheering. I love EVERYTHING about this moment.

Yeah, I'm definitely still in love with her. Queen. Also, the line of this ep so far, "getting engaged".

I know there's no other way to say it, but when characters are on a first name basis with each other instead of their usual nicknames, you know something is up.

I finally finished Inside No. 9 after not watching an episode for ages. I had stopped in the middle of S7... Anyway, I took some notes about the episodes which are possibly interesting for a rewatch. They're pretty vague, but I'll hide them under the read more link just in case. ^^

Kid/Nap: Not my fave episode, but the double twist was kind of intriguing. Although I guess it would've been possible to expect it.

Wise Owl: Wow, I didn't expect this to get so dark towards the end. I mean, it wasn't a happy episode to begin with, but that 'come upstairs with me' bit... But I liked that he freed himself from the influence of 'Wise Owl' at the end.

Bones of St Nicholas: Didn't like this one too much tbh. It was a nice spooky story I guess, but not really what I'd expect from IN9 idk

Mother's Ruin: I'm glad I didn't watch this while I was eating something, lol. Idk, but I did quite like it. Lots of surprises (although I knew that it wasn't their mothers ghost talking lol)

Friday 13 (no, I can't remember that title and I'm not sorry xD): The first part was pretty funny, although really anxiety-inducing. That stuff about various annoying things happening when you just quickly need to do something happens in my dreams all the time and I hate it, lol. Well, the reveal of what it really was about was alright too. But I KNEW that something would happen in the end after all. I knew it.

Love is a Stranger: looking back it was so obvious what was going on, but it was a great misdirection, so I was nevertheless shocked when I realises the truth. Probably tells a story about prejudice and how it makes you perceive things and people

3 by 3: idk why, but this one made me really uncomfortable, even though I knew it was an ep of IN9 and not a quizshow. But I thought the twist was a bit too late, too small and if you knew what it was it was easy to pick up on the hints beforehand. I assume the effect would've been greater if watching it blind, but then I would've turned off long before the end of the episode because that was one lame quizshow :D

Last Weekend: HOLY FUCKING SHIT THAT ENDING, I think this is the first episode I definitely won't ever rewatch, lol.

Boo to a goose: this one made a big impression on me when I watched it and the social criticism is really important, but I think it loses a bit of its effect the more I think about it. It really is an interesting watch though and I kind of want to rewatch it to pick up on more hints like the ads on the windows etc.

Trolley Problem: I didn't expect the story to take this turn and I found it thrilling to watch (the mind game episodes are always the best ones tbh), but I can't really say much about it. Of course there's the moral thing that 'just doing nothing' doesn't mean you're free of any guilt.

Mulberry Close: I found this one oddly funny? The twist wasn't even that big, but the ending was just great black humour, I'd say.

CTRL ALT ESC: I actually really liked the metaphor, even though I didn't understand it at first. And I didn't expect that he'd actually made his 'escape', so the last minutes were pretty tense. Oh, and the title…I initially confused it with the command used to open the task manager, but that's Ctrl+Shift+Esc. The combination in the title is used to force a switch between the active and a background programmes (iirc), so in a sense…someone needed to use that key combination on him to get his programme aka consciousness to the surface again. Kinda clever, and yet you don't realise it immediately :O

Curse of the Ninth: Oh, I loved the classical music theme! The ending with that use of music (and the way he tricked her lol)! And Reece's character constantly getting Devonshire's name wrong was kinda hilarious to me…maybe because it didn't seem to fit the tone of the episode at all, haha.

Plodding On: They might as well have called this episode 'Steve and Reece say: RPF is fine' lol. It was an unusual episode, but idk, I kinda liked it. That fucking 'Time to say goodbye' clip collage tho…that song always almost makes me cry for some reason, haha.

Would it be ok to start my path to the trigun hell hole with trigun stampede? I just KNOW that this show would consume and hurt me in many ways so any advice would help. Thank you.

👀👀!! Oh yes, absolutely you can - because for many newcomers who never got the chance 20+ yrs ago, Stampede was their first introduction to the series! So you wouldn't be alone there. :3 (I grew up with the 98 anime however, so that one was my first.) Stampede's also likely the shortest time-investment too, at a speedier 12eps for the current season vs the 98 anime's longer 26eps. So you're very welcome to try that when braving your first Trigun plunge~

Just note that every iteration available (old anime, new anime, manga) is different, with regards to their own plotlines and modified characterizations, so you'll gain something new out of all of them on each watch or (re)read.

For example, Stampede draws its lore/inspiration from the completed Trimax manga (but does not follow the exact same plotline; Stampede is its own separate retelling, not a 1:1 adaptation), which was not possible when the 98 anime was made, as the manga had not been completed yet. So the 98 anime adapts the first few manga vols (along with inserting many fun/silly slower character building eps, before switching to darker/heavier content in the later half) and has its own unique anime-original lore & ending (kinda like how the first fma did it), but the themes it presents are still quite solid and universal, so it's very worth a watch too! Even though yes, some parts are noticeably dated with 90s tropes (which you can 100% safely ignore, as both Stampede & Trimax Vash are not like that), just so you're aware.

I recommend at least watching the 98 anime before tackling the harder manga though, as the manga greatly expands into territory the 98 anime could never do or show at the time, so if you go say, from the manga to 98 in reverse order, there's a chance you may not enjoy the older anime as much? (Your mileage may vary.) In my experience, I went 98 -> Trimax manga -> Stampede (basically in release order), and since Stampede is very much a love letter + passion project for both new/older fans alike to enjoy, it's full of references to spot if you're already familiar with the series. I had lots of fun catching those (ep12 alone is like AAAA!!! *____* with so many Trimax elements thrown in) So you can start with it AND rewatch Stampede a 2nd time after completing the manga too, to get the most out of it! :D (Plus, the Stampede story isn't even over yet; it was more like a deliberately planned prelude, with plenty more endgame Trimax material to possibly explore in future seasons. You'll see when you get there~)

As for the manga, it begins with 2 volumes titled Trigun, before switching genres/publications to a darker/heavier seinen retitled Trigun Maximum (abbreviated as Trimax), which continues the same story right where the other vols left off, and for many fans, is considered to be the definitive Trigun ~experience~ (that'll change your life~)

It can be a difficult read, with regards to the serious subject matter presented and even for comprehending the vaguer 'up to reader interpretation' scenes (bc you can't speed-read this; there are times you may have to pace yourself with breaks to process if needed, and bc the expressive artwork itself does much of the talking through strong vibes and impression, which requires your full attention to grasp what's happening.) And since Nightow, the author, rarely draws speech bubbles with directional tails to indicate who's talking - cues which instead are understood thru context and the characters' unique accents/speech patterns, which while obvious in Japanese, is a much harder challenge when translated into english. So if you ever feel lost/confused by what's happening with the need for clarification, there's many bookclub fans here, including the main fan translator, who'll gladly help you out!

Be prepared for much mental trauma, emotional damage, character death(s), morality/reality checks and pain and suffering abound....but it's done in a very cathartic, soulful, healing way...where you suffer and heal in the same boat along with Vash instead of leaving you permanently hurt, it may leave you coming out of it feeling quite changed and enlightened refreshed and comforted by its messages instead. :')) (I've seen plenty who consider it their comfort manga bc of this, as well.) The enduring good faith Vash has in humanity, pursuing kindness as a choice for a better future (where things are not doomed when there's always a second chance to continue), and the ability to survive and recover from almost impossible, terribly hopeless (to downright suicidal) odds are what resonate strongly with me. :'3 Again, it's an ~experience~ you just have to feel to decide for yourself how it impacts you. But for some extra reassurance, the ending is not a tragic one, but something more bittersweet leaving off on a positive note, which is most importantly, hopeful. I hope you enjoy it!

And just fyi, after personally reading and comparing both the official Darkhorse and the Overhaul fan translations, I highly recommend the Overhaul manga over the official one for a much better time (since the official tl unfortunately has many mistakes, missed line callbacks, and misplaced speech bubbles, etc leading to more confusion, so yeah!) You can find the nicely accessible Overhaul manga translation (plus it seems there's plans for an improved ver2.0 fan translation in the works), along with their online reader too, right over here~

''Botann!'' You whisper-yell at her, glaring. ''Hehehehe~'' She just giggled and you just pulled your hands back focusing on the fight.

As soon as your gaze felt to the stadium you were shocked to see Kurama laying on the ground...in pain

Suddenly lots of smoke surrounded the stadium and you(and everyone else) couldn't see inside...

Now you were actually starting to worry.....

''K-Kurama....'' You whisper out his name and suddenly you felt a hug wave of powerful demon energy from the stadium....

''Beautiful...'' You couldn't help but whisper out, it seem like the demon fox heard you because he looked straight at you with a slight smirk present on his face.

You blush and excuse yourself to Botan and the other girls.

''Wait where you going!?'' Botan yelled through the crowd, ''J-Just gonna get some fresh air!'' You yell back at her pushing through the crowd, all the while trying to hide your red face.

Botan huffed and went back to Shizuru, Yukina and Keiko

''Hm...his probably flustered seeing Kurama's demon form'' Shizuru said smirking a bit.

''Oh I knew he loved Kurama!'' Botan yelled happily. All the while Keiko and Yukina were just a tad confused.

Back to you, you were now inside of your teams locker room, and you were hiding your face in your hands while thinking of ways to calm your beating heart down, when suddenly the door opened.

You looked by the door and widened your eyes with panic, there was Yoko standing there proudly and....smirking?

''Y-Yoko! Ah...are you injured?'' You ask the fox demon standing from the bench you were sitting on.

''S-Sorry....'' You mumbled out still looking away from him, ''You know...I don't know what Shuichi saw in you that he was smitten by you..'' Yoko said as he walked closer to you.

Your eyes widened in shocked at this and you looked at him with a blush, ''W-What...?'' You ask unsure of what to respond.

Yoko chuckled and rest his hand on the wall beside you, successfully trapping you in his gaze, looking at you with something present in his eyes you can't quite understand.

Yoko then chuckled and started to speak again ''Now I know why he was so smitten by you...'' He said with a smirk.

You at him confused yet flustered as he spoke again ''Your beautiful for a guy...'' He said grabbing your chin.

You were at a lost for words and very much red faced by now, you never expected your long time crush(Well now Yoko) likes you...

Oh the things this man makes you feel....

You were broken away from your thoughts as Yoko started leaning more closer at your face.....was he gonna kiss you??

You freeze at the spot as Yoko captured your lips....

You coughed out ad cleared the smoke away calling out Yoko's name multiple times. ''I'm afraid Yoko's time has expire'' You heard a familiar voice say.

Your Vision soon cleared out and you saw Shuichi in all his glory smiling at you. ''Y-Your back!'' You yell happily.

He chuckled and held your hands looking at you lovingly, ''I apologize for not confessing sooner...I wanted to wait for the right time until Yoko took control of course...'' He said with a sigh.

You just smile and held his hands tighter, ''Its fine...I'm just happy to know you like me ahahahaha...'' You say with a laugh.

''Then...would you accept me as your boyfriend, and you as my boyfriend?'' He asked the question you were waiting for.

You smiled happily and hugged him tightly while yelling lots yeses~

You soon let go of him and you both walked back to the arena, ''I promise after this tournament I'll take you on a proper date'' Shuichi said with a smile.

You smile back him and kissed him on the cheek.....

''I'll be waiting then''

''Whats taking Kurama so long? We have a tournament to win!'' Kuwabara yelled angrily, Botan heard this(Somehow) and yelled from the crowd.

''LET KURAMA AND Y/N TAKE THEIR TIME!'' She yelled making the girls(Expect Shizuru) sweat drop at this..

Why BelialVamdemon was the final enemy:

As many people know i do not like Vamdemon as the final enemy in 02, though i started to understand the said decision in some recent rewatches.

Short answer: it's because of Daisuke's backstory. Vamdemon is Daisuke's nemesis.

Long answer: It's a bit more complicated than you think.

Many people love to claim Daisuke had no development in 02, or that his development is limited… But as my friend Shiha had written before in her 02 metas, 02's development is not by individuals and yes by relationships. Which means you only realize Daisuke's growth by watching how he interacts with the kids.

As for the statement of "wanting Daisuke to not change" -- this does not mean no progress, but rather his personality would still be the same. He does change through 02 and 02 material, and if you try to claim he didn't, please rewatch the series with caution.

Anyway, one of the three peaks of Daisuke's character arc in 02 material is ep 49-50 -- in which we learn the enemy is Vamdemon and the kids have to fight him in order to save everyone. While the others seem to lose their hopes, Daisuke keeps in front of them and also does not force the others to fight (Daisuke tells Ken the jogress won't work if he loses his nerve, on ep 48.) so yeah this seems like a single solo battle against the final enemy.

As Daisuke and XV-mon gain strength to fight Vamdemon, and Daisuke notices his whole optimism and faith in themselves is turning XV-mon's attacks stronger… Well, this is where Daisuke learns the gist of that bizarre place.

But what does this have to do with Vamdemon, you may ask. Well, it's related to a certain track released in 2003, in which reveals more details of the digimon event Daisuke was involved before becoming a Chosen Child:

If you wear goggles… do you become strong?

Not really… but when I wear them, I guess it’s like, my feelings become stronger…

I…want to be stronger.

Eh?

I want to become stronger and protect my sister, my Mom, and my Dad! I want to beat the bad guys!

“Bad guys”…?

Like… the light, white ones, or the big, scary ones! The black bad guys that are hidden in the shadows!

Are you talking about… Digimon?

They rounded everyone up, and threatened us. Then they made us go to sleep…

That was from… three years ago… when Taichi-san and the others were the first Chosen Ones. Vamdemon was attacking Odaiba back then. I was captured along with my dad and the others…

I wasn’t enough to stop them myself. But… I saw him. A person wearing goggles and riding something that looked like a huge dinosaur! I saw him beat the bad guys!

You saw that? I… by the time I woke up, it was already dark. But you’re right. In that night sky—

These big, shadowy, bad guys were all spread out across the sky! But the person wearing goggles… and his friends… they combined their powers and defeated them all!

I forgot about that. Yeah, I did see that. Dad, Mom, and Sis don’t really remember much about that time… and I only have faint memories of it myself…

If I have that kind of power, I can protect everyone. With power, I wouldn’t have allowed us to be captured in the first place. I would have stopped the tears!

To sum up this whole dialogue: Daisuke meets with his past self, a very different Daisuke before 02 events. Without audio you might not get it, but it's a whole track with Kiuchi Reiko voicing both present Daisuke and past Daisuke.

Well, this whole dialogue points out a few things: One, Daisuke definitely witnessed Taichi and his group on Aug 3, but possibly did not recognize them for some reason (the novel has Daisuke himself cameoing in the third novel's version of those events, in which Taichi has to distract Daisuke to not see the digimon, and later a scene of Jun comforting Daisuke, being witnessed by Mimi who comments "it must be nice to have a sibling")

Two, Daisuke wanted to protect the others. He complains about not being strong enough to protect his own family and the victims of Vamdemon's invasion. So Daisuke from 1999 was seeking for a way to become stronger in order to protect his family.

And what is what Daisuke says when everyone breaks their illusions? Ah yes, "I need to get stronger" huh?

So, okay, now we know all of this... I can finally go straight to the point: Vamdemon is the only digimon enemy suitable for Daisuke's character arc closure. It starts with Adv's Tokyo arc setting, and ends in 02 48-50. As many people would love, say, Daemon or Millenniummon as the final enemy... We have to at least realize those wouldn't have a strong impact on Daisuke's character and his message in ep 49-50.

Because... I don't think if this was planned since 02 got greeenlighted at the end of Tokyo arc but, what's cooler than having one of the kidnapped kids from Vamdemon's invasion be the one to beat Vamdemon alongside his friends and the whole Chosen Children network, including the girl who witnessed Wizarmon die for her and Tailmon? And also with the power of the Dark Seed kids, the recent victims of Vamdemon, who got their power of dream and made them true restored by those six kids?

Really, at least i can see the meaning behind this.

random jdrama rewatches: Dr. Rintaro, Psychiatrist ep 1

I think I watched this for the first time...maybe during the pandemic? Definitely after Legal High S2 and Hanzawa S1.

Either way, it's an interesting drama with Sakai Masato and one where I do remember crying a lot. Some episodes I remember were a bit "therapeutic" in their own way (episode 1 left me crying at the end. Again. :'D). While his approach is "unorthodox" in some parts to me, (this might the fansubs' quality too) his demeanour is what my aunt, a retired Psychologist, believes is sorely lacking in many medical professionals now. There's a cute little light-hearted arc with the Press Secretary and the drama shedding some light on how even the professionals need their own therapists is incredibly true based on convos I've had with my aunt.

(I never ask about her old patients and that would breach Code, just what "WWYD" type questions or "what happens if x or y happens? do you refer them for other stuff? come up with a plan??" or "but I thought [condition] was treated with [x-treatment] because [of something in the news recently]")

I finished episode 1 and just like the first time, I'm left with a new realization about something about myself, but feeling drained. OTL...

Not even sure if I should move on to episode 2 or start rewatching Hanzawa S2. or sleep

smallville. a name i haven't heard in a long time. i remember watching it as a teenager, i recognise the faces of the actors but i have no clue as to what's going on in the show. the only thing i know is it's about superman (am i sure? not really) as for riverdale, the only thing i've watched are the yt video edits/the memes. some of the videos are kind of funny. especially when you know nothing about the show hahaha

oh wow congrats on actually keeping your promise of watching kdramas 👏👏👏 so revenge of others is a thriller mixed with a little bit of detective stories? (i don't remember the name of the genre lol) i hope the k*ll*r (just in case tumblr wants to flag this post) is not the person you're suspecting because then it ruins the story :/ at least in my opinion ^^ i mean, it's nice if you guess who it is while collecting clues during the first few episodes but if you already guessed by episode 2 then it's a bummer :( but again maybe the story is not entirely focused on finding the culprit and more about how the main character reacts and what will happen to the culprit? i'm sorry those are just random guesses >3< and i'm sure you've got the right answer. you're smart, very smart!

anime ive watched in 2022, ranked least to most favourite:

12: overlord (2015-)

listen. its a bad show. anyone who tells you is good is marvelpilled to see action=good. the world setup and characters had a lot of potential in season 1, but with each season it got progressively worse. the show spends a lot of time developing side characters, and then kills them off just to show how strong the protagonist is. said protagonist goes through little to no character development over 4 entire seasons. even the action and fights arent well done theyre just fights. everything’s a curbstomp and it sucks. idk man even fic cant fix this one.

11: tales of phantasia (2004)

pros: seeing the characters animated instead of in little pixeled sprites. cons: everything else. its a bad adaptation.

10: chainsaw man (2022-)

this one’s also not for me! i think its a really good show, between the pacing, interpersonal relationships, and animation (plus a different ending per ep is god tier). but it makes me feel bad to watch and not even in a cathartic way.

9: spy x family (2022-)

its a fun show! the animation’s great and its funny. but it doesnt stand out to me as much as its hyped. definitely recommend, but doesnt compare to my other faves.

8. black butler (2008)

the story? WACK. the characters? WACK. made me laugh though and it was really fun to watch as like, something id only heard about back in middle school. would not recommend but i had fun watching it. plus, its one of the few shows (ok first seasons) that actively keeps its word and doesnt try to pull a deus ex to save the protag at the end. we need more of this.

7. the case study of vanitas (2022-)

the way this show deals with unreliable narrators and complex interpersonal relationships and still manages to have incredible worldbuilding… the characters are all so well done and i NEED to have more of it animated.

6. demon slayer (entertainment district arc) (2022-)

i dont care what anyone says i love this show. best quality animation of the decade. super compelling cast of characters. i watched the rest of the show last year, but this one gets included bc its new and it made me rewatch the entire show twice. that fight at the end had me truly speechless

4. komi cant communicate (2021-)

i laughed until i cried several times while watching this and that alone puts any show near the top for me

3. fabiniku (2022-)

see above. every ep had me in tears. best ending song of the year (hiii most played song). plus its gender.

2. mairimashita! iruma-kun (2019-)

life changing show. to me. like i dont even know what to say about it. character designs rule. op/ed AND musical songs are good. first anime to make me pick up its manga in a literal decade. theres nonbinary characters. its an isekai. every character makes me go :D when they come up on screen. 11/10

show of all time TRULY. nothing i can add that hasnt been lauded on here before. soundtrack, animation, character designs, writing, attention to detail, humour, it has EVERYTHING. has a (new) favourite character of anything ever (ritsu). ive rewatched it three times in 3 months (incredibly high praise from me)

Lucifer Rewatch Liveblog: Ep 1.01

Oh god the NERVES I have over doing this. It’s so stupid. Anyway before hitting play, let’s give a little backstory about how I stumbled ass-backwards into watching Lucifer.

It was September 2021 and the sixth and final season was about to drop on Netflix. Both my spouse and my mother were rewatching the series in preparation of this and both had reached S3 when we were visiting my parents for my mom’s birthday. So Lucifer became the de facto show playing in the background of the visit. All I knew about the show going in was a) it was about the Devil, b) he ran a nightclub in LA, and c) it had at one point been canceled by a traditional network and then ‘saved’ by Netflix. Oh and d) I had absolutely no interest in ever watching it.

But circumstances change don’t they? Because between the time that I first heard about Lucifer and the time when it was playing in front of my face while I visited with my family, the following events happened:

the COVID-19 pandemic swept through the world

Anxiety and depression set in making new shows feel like too much work to watch

both my spouse and I rewatched old favorites instead

I got a shih tzu puppy which confined me to the living room for months until she was fully potty trained.

Now, for my spouse, these go to TV rewatches included The Originals and Frasier. And friends, I got hooked on both. Two shows I never had any interest in watching. Two shows my spouse played in the living room so we could still be in the same room while I raised a puppy. TWO SHOWS I GOT FUCKING HOOKED ON AND HAD TO WATCH ALL THE WAY THROUGH TO THE END.

So of course the same thing happened when they played Lucifer right in front of my face. And like The Originals and Frasier, I merely picked up where my spouse was in the rewatch and refused to go backwards. ‘You should really watch it from the beginning--’ NOPE! We’re starting here. Just fill me in on backstory when it’s relevant.

Which is how my first experience with Lucifer was scattered S3 episodes and then S4-6 straight through. I loved it! It was fab! But it was months before I got the itch to go back and watch S1-2 and when I did oh boy.... OH BOY.

Well, I’ll share those thoughts live. :P

OMG this little text intro they do during S1 is so trying to be edgy but is instead just cheesy.

I hate this opening scene. I mean I understand it. It does it’s job. Lucifer hates rules but enjoys punishing people! He can pull out people’s desires! Cops aren’t here to protect anyone! Just take money from the rich and terrorize the rest! Oh wait they probably didn’t mean that last one.

Weird move then to open with a dirty cop in a cop propaganda show

I am too asexual for this show in general but I’m especially too asexual for S1

I do love how Amenadiel is nearly always introduced in S1 with time slowing down. It’s a fucking awesome power! Shame he stopped using it.

Though I cannot take early Amenadiel seriously because he is so I’m Super Serious and I have seen S4-6 okay? This version of Amenadiel is a total hilarious lie.

I do love Delilah. Also I lose my mind every time that like 8 minutes into the pilot, they foreshadow the show’s end game of Lucifer helping the souls trapped in Hell to confront their guilt when he calls in his favor with Delilah to tell her to get her life together. It means nothing with the pilot alone, but when boosted by the next six seasons, it becomes a nugget of gold.

And RIP Delilah :( You should absolutely not think about how the poor thing was definitely stuck in Hell until Lucifer had his series finale revelation. :( Definitely don’t think about that.

Cool trick to pull back a very recently deceased soul to talk to it. I understand why that never really happened again (because he wasn’t usually there when future murder victims died) but since I’m a sucker for all kinds of ghost/afterlife stories, I kind of wish it had been utilized again.

~Ooo~ narrative mystery. What’s Palmetto Street????? What’s the deal with these two cops????? I wouldn’t actually care if this was my first experience with the show. Oops.

Now, they did not show that Lucifer’s supernatural charisma draws everyone to him before introducing Chloe but that’s okay. It’s the pilot. In general, they’re doing well with the plot and characters.

And by well, I mean I only like S1 because it’s hysterical after knowing where they all end up. Don’t get me wrong! I completely agree that this is the cast’s starting places. But who they all are before meeting each other and growing together is repulsive to me so in that sense S1 is terrible.

Ooph the anti-black racism in this scene with 2 Vile. I mean it goes hand in hand with cop propaganda but WOW. The rap bashing and pretending that liking blues music means you’re not racist. Wow.

I do love Chloe’s backstory of being an actress who had a nude scene in a movie because that’s the kind of thing that is so far outside my lived experience that I never would’ve thought of that for a character in a million years. But it works absurdly well in the context of this show. So kudos to the writers there.

Okay now we’re starting with the real Lucifer and Chloe banter that we know and love. I had nothing to say during their intro scene because I kept seeing all the fanvids who splice it with the series finale callback to it but here’s the actual good stuff.

“I just threatened his life. He would’ve said, trust me.” *long blink of disbelief* “You did what?” -- Oh Chloe you have no idea what a headache the next six years are going to be for you. (And also the rest of your life because I met Rory, okay. That girl is not going to be easy to raise. Trixie is your easy child.)

“Yeah, isn’t that illegal?” -- “Uh, little bit, yeah.” Finally! Chloe has an excuse to arrest Lucifer for being an ass!

Which lasts all of 0.2 seconds because Lucifer can get out of handcuffs. Which Chloe for some reason was not expecting.

Like I know through internet osmosis that sex handcuffs and police handcuffs are two different things, but c’mon Chloe. Does this not strike you as the kind of guy who would experiment with police handcuffs too? Even not believing that he’s the Devil, I feel like you should’ve seen that one coming.

Ah here we go! The mojo demonstration again... that utterly falls flat because Chloe is a gift from God.

Heh heh heh. That may be the first time Lucifer forgets Chloe is a trained actress and falls for her playing him, but it won’t be the last! lol

Lucifer calling picking up her daughter an ‘errand’ is like the 4th time Chloe pictured herself shooting him.

Why is this fifth grader bullying a first grader? I just feel like fifth graders have better things to do like pick on each other in preparation for the ruthless ‘every child for themselves’ warzone that is sixth grade.

Dan really does earn his douche title in S1. RIP Dan.

The cynical part of me that’s bought into purity culture is dismissing Lucifer defending Chloe as dumb hetero ‘This is the couple you’re supposed to ship!’ nonsense, but the rest of me that’s remembering it’s okay to like boy-led shows and junk food can actually analyze it and see that this is just him keying into behavior that isn’t justified and therefore should be punished. It’s not special to Chloe just yet. He does already like her. He is already intrigued by her, and he’s even already slightly charmed by her daughter. But he genuinely cared about Delilah too and wanted to see her turn her life around. The whole pilot is driven by him wanting to punish those that took that opportunity away from her, and I really like that. Again, it’s set up for the S6 end game of saving the souls in Hell.

“Isn’t he funny, Daddy?” followed swiftly by asking Chloe “What’s a hooker?” is some dichotomy. LOL

Oh, Chloe. Just wait until Trixie befriends Maze. ;)

(Just wait until Dan meets Maze ROTFL Okay I will definitely have to keep liveblogging so I can rewatch that ep. OMG it’s hysterical.)

“Daddy will tell you. :)” Oh this separation is not going well. I mean that’s been pretty obvious from every scene that Chloe and Dan have shared so far, but that line really cements that. lol

Chloe and Dan both being different shades of shocked that Trixie likes Lucifer is fab. Chloe is just ‘huh’ about it and Dan is like ‘I want to kill this guy so bad’ x2.

OH I LOVE THIS EXCHANGE OUTSIDE OF LINDA’S OFFICE!

“Planned... sort of.” -- Dude you can’t say that kind of shit to me. I wouldn’t ordinarily care, but this show is already bonkers so now I want the gossip. The full story. What do you mean by ‘sort of’ in this sentence? I *will* pry.

“Did my father send you?” -- !!!!!! NOPE! DEFINITELY DIDN’T! DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU’RE TALKING ABOUT! CHLOE IS DEFINITELY NOT A GIFT FROM GOD!

(Did the writers know already? I mean, presumably they did if they’re dropping giant anvils like that. But writers also sometimes write characteristics like ‘is immune to Lucifer’s desire power’ without having the explanation ready to go in the pilot because it gives them freedom to flesh things out later. But this really feels like they had that explanation formed from the beginning.)

LINDA! LINDA! LINDA! LINDA!

I’m excited for her. I am not excited for this scene. This scene where Linda nearly jumps Lucifer is where I would’ve walked out on the pilot episode. If you had even convinced me to sit through more than that intro scene, that is. This pilot and I are very different people who live very different lives :S

However, it is hilarious in retrospect. Utterly ridiculous LOL

“Oh no he’s horrible! So square jawed, so handsome, so vanilla” -- THEN WHY THE FUCK DID YOU LET ME SUFFER THROUGH CHLOE AND CAIN IN S3! YOU COULD’VE STOPPED IT, LUCIFER! YOU COULD’VE SAVED US ALLLLLL THAT PAIN!

I mean it wouldn’t have made the Devil revelation any less shocking to Chloe and so S4 would mostly be unchanged BUT STILL! MY EYEBALLS! PLEASE THINK OF MY EYEBALLS!!!

Lucifer really doesn’t understand how a movie set works, does he? Just walks right into the middle of a massive and expensive practical stunt and then gets confused why the lead actor isn’t doing the stunt.

“You know you’re gonna have to get much better at lying if you’re going to be President?” -- “I know, right?”

“Why else do you think I’ve been sleeping with Bobby?” -- This marital fight is hilarious, I’m not gonna lie. They do not have a healthy relationship!

“Despite your proclaimed revulsion, you can’t deny that there’s a connection between us.” -- Because she can see that spark of genuineness in you which doesn’t make sense with your everything else, and she’s trying to figure out why that contrast isn’t as conflicting as it should be. You’re both puzzles the other is trying to figure out.

(You two are also a walking, talking soulmate AU which is a quickfire way to make me feral -- but that’s a conversation for a different season.)

It’s always about the money. :/

“I told you, it’s fine. I’m immortal.” -- But that poor band member isn’t, Lucifer! Dumbass.

PFFFTTTT! A fan vid cut Delilah being shot side by side with Chloe being shot here in the pilot and I LOST MY MIND ABOUT IT! I never realized that was a full proper parallel with the falling back onto shattered glass and everything until I saw that fanvid. So good!

This show LOVES using parallels and by god they do it well.

(Except S3. That’s still a hot mess, but I think they were trying for a foil there and not a parallel. Keyword is *trying*.)

TRIXIE! And then Lucifer drops her right on top of Chloe’s wounded side. Good move, Lucifer. A+ lol

“Look forward to seeing you soon, Chloe.” -- “I don’t.” Adorable.

“Glad you’re not dead.” -- my GOD when people splice that with Chloe’s S5 death in fanvids, it makes me tear out my hair. I love it!

And once again, I cannot take Amenadiel or this ‘tense brotherly stand off’ seriously. They’re just babies squabbling in comparison to where they end up. It’s nothing but comedy to me.

Bad news, Maze. Humanity is about to rub off on you too. *Jean-Ralphio voice* You’re gonna get a SO-OUL! :D

And we close with Lucifer going back to hold up his end of the deal with Linda and strike a new one with her: sex for therapy. Which thankfully, she switches to ‘money for therapy’ like a normal person at some point in S1. I mean, sex for therapy -- that’s the kind of thing that can get your license revoked. *glances at S2*

In conclusion, this was fun! I think the act of liveblogging helped my enjoyment of the show. It certainly got me to watch a full episode again. I did keep pausing to write things down which interrupted the flow. Fine for my third viewing of the pilot, but that’s going to bug me for later episodes. I’ll have to either be less wordy or take the bare minimum notes of what I want to say and then go back after the episode and flesh everything out.

bee and puppycat fan here too , the reason it got popular on tumblr again is cause of them recently releasing lazy in space (the second season) on netflix. (lazy in space has actually been around for a While cause it got leaked but only has been Officially released recently) watch order id say definitely watch the original youtube series and THEN the netflix series, the first three eps of the netflix series r optional tbh cause they do add some stuff lorewise but otherwise are just a more lackluster and rushed version of the much longer and more developed youtube series. not ragging on the creators they did what they could with the time they had to retell what already happened but the youtube series is just better to watch than those three eps

Bnha episode 37 commentary

“Bakugou Katsuki: Origin”   

HOOOOOOOOO BOIIIII, I’ve been highly anticipating this episode for a long while (manga reader here), and JUST finished watching it once – completely tense, transfixed, and holding my breath the entire time while internally screaming. :O Just…holy shit, I need to watch it AGAIN, IMMEDIATELY (probably countless times aha). So I can actually pause and break down all the glorious meta within. I’M PERFECTLY CALM! 8D (no I’m not) Hours later, I end up just under 3000 words, as there is a LOT to talk about. So HERE WE GO: my in-depth commentary on probably my most awaited bnha episode:  

Alright, so first up, the anime reformatted the manga’s final exam battles to happen consecutively instead of concurrently, to save the best for last uninterrupted (THIS fight, Deku and Kacchan vs All Might). So anime-onlys missed this bus ride scene of them going to the test site (ch61), with awkward Dad Might trying (and failing) to diffuse the nervous tension between them. :’) 

Now, the anime immediately starts where the last ep left off: right inside the gate without any of All Might’s pre-battle briefing. (Yup, in the manga he explained all the rules right there before they began.) With a brief recap reminding us just how tense and coiled Bakugou’s irritation has been since before the exam even started.

A big thing to note is that before this point in the story, most watchers/readers alike still hadn’t seen the full picture behind Bakugou’s actions or understood the reasons for his way of thinking. Because the story is presented in Deku’s pov, we’ve only been allowed scattered pieces of Bakugou’s pov to put together so far, so a big part of THIS episode’s purpose is finally revealing what it is that drives his character to push so hard. To be a hero (and definitely not a villain). Just like the episode’s title states, this is about his origin point. His past, present and future; his turning point from here on out as well!  

So, the thoughts he recollects at the start of the ep are the set up: comparing their internships where he felt he wasted his time while Deku improved faster than him (rubbing that fact in while mimicking his moves on top of that!), the sports festival where he felt his ‘win’ was hollowly earned since Todoroki essentially gave up the final match to him. AND! Not mentioned, but his loss to Deku at the heroes vs villains exercise back in season one. This WHOLE TIME, Bakugou has not achieved any worthwhile results or milestones that he holds to the standard of his self-imposed perfectionism. Which has made him incredibly insecure in his position/progress and on edge to push himself (masked by outward anger, aggression and irritation). So right now, this final exam is where he’s hinging it all to finally prove himself as the indisputable best. He knows that position is what he should be, so he can’t afford to lose, idle by, or achieve a half-assed win again. So! He marches forward headfirst and resolute, right into the arena ahead of Deku’s hesitance and indecision. 

Meanwhile, Deku knows this is supposed to be a team exercise, so he has to get through to him somehow and communicate how they need to work together to win. …So he runs up to him and info-dumps everything Bakugou already knows (not the best approach). Visibly, it’s incredibly tense to see how hard Bakugou is holding back just tolerating his jabbering. Deku’s demanding him to wait and listen, yet Bakugou warns him to stop. Deku tries to reason they should run (that they’re no match against All Might), yet Bakugou has already decided they have no choice but to face All Might. Remember, Bakugou is one of the smartest and strongest of their class, so this is not just hot air speaking here, despite how it may appear. Unfortunately, Deku misreads this and further exclaims, “who do you think All might is?!” (uhoh, Bakugou knows precisely who he is; he’s his idol too) And even a further low blow against his drive, “you can’t win against him!” RIGHT at Bakugou’s sore spot.

*braces myself* OH GAWD. Yeah, the backswipe to the face. It’s horrible and painful to watch, yes. (I think the manga’s direct impact panel felt harsher tho) But it’s important to understand it did not come out of nowhere. Bakugou warned him to stop, yet Deku kept on pushing. And while reacting with violence should never be condoned or be a proper response to anger, it’s also important to note that this marks the first time Bakugou has actually raised a hand against him (outside of battle), since before their middle school days.

That’s right: this is the only time Bakugou has been shown to hit him like this in the story’s present narrative. Which is also remarkably consistent with his behavior: Bakugou will not actively instigate confrontations against Deku unless Deku pushes him, shoves in his space, or gets in his way first. Most often, Bakugou will stay in his lane, despite how it may appear the opposite. This is consistently within Bakugou’s way of telling Deku to ‘stay down, back in his place’ and to stop bothering him. (His words: “Don’t say another word. Just because things are going better for you doesn’t mean you should talk. It’s pissing me off.”) Because to Bakugou, Deku’s genuine persistence and concern for him read as overblown arrogance/conceit while condescendingly looking down on him and his established strengths, which Bakugou cannot stand (cuz to have such a similar assuredness thrown back at him by someone he deems to be the weakest is absolutely not tolerated). As the audience, we know this misread intent from Deku is not true, plus as we all know, Deku can’t stop following him; he’ll always get back up (to fight if he must), regardless of Bakugou’s attempts to push him back.

Whew, ok. Now that I got that elephant out of the room, I can continue with the main threat: All Might, who plays his part as the villain spectacularly. (I love how both their thoughts perfectly synchronize on assessing All Might’s intimidation!) Despite how Deku’s first instinct is to run, he can’t leave Bakugou (Kacchan) behind either, who immediately engages the target. Note Bakugou’s words, “your power isn’t needed to pass.” So he’s determined to push himself until he proves just that: using his own power to win without having to rely on Deku. Even All Might notes his tenacity when Bakugou doesn’t even back down from getting grabbed in the face. Bakugou’s SERIOUS, but still cautious with his opening moves against him. Again, All Might is his idol too, so Bakugou’s calculating what moves he can use to effectively stun him and draw him out. Not fast or strong enough though, as All Might quickly overpowers him.    

All Might shifts to Deku (who’s been staring like a deer in the headlights), and even goads him with the insinuation that Deku would run and leave his teammate behind. Ohh!! Flashback to Stain, a battle with mortal peril where it may have been wiser to pick everyone up and run. And…Deku’s similarly intimidated to do just that! But…his leap backwards collides with Bakugou’s incoming next assault. :’) Man, I actually really like how Bakugou delivers his warning before impact, with genuine shock? Worry? Damn it’s a good reaction. 

Recovery Girl’s commentary on Deku’s admiration for All Might is spot-on. He sees him as that of a god: all-powerful, invincible, and the bearer of his own quirk, One for All. Admiring him too much such that Deku can’t even fathom how he could ever fight against him and win; against All Might would be a hopeless struggle. So Deku’s not even trying to oppose him. However…he’s not alone against him here either. ;) Neither Recovery Girl nor All Might (and at this point, most of the audience too) know what really drives Bakugou. Yet here we see a glimpse of it: to him, to win is what it means to be a hero.

THIS incites Deku’s memories of their childhood, when they BOTH equally looked up to All Might. To young Deku, All Might is the coolest hero because he saves everyone with a smile, but to young Kacchan, All Might is the coolest hero because he always wins. Even when overpowered or outnumbered. No matter what. (note how little Deku would rather watch Kacchan, instead of the All Might video) 

But shit, before they can make their next move, All Might blitzes them both: a guard rail trapping Deku’s insistence to run, and a brutal punch of reality so hard it blows Bakugou’s guts out (yeah I had to brace myself for this too). Damn, Deku’s cry over his peril is so gooood. He knows Bakugou is a jerk, but…he can’t help admiring him because Bakugou has always tried his hardest to win, and always ensured his victories by walking the talk. Ever since they were young.

But WAIT?! All Might’s reprimand to him and his anger is not what Bakugou needs to hear right now. Because he already knows this. Right now, Bakugou is coiled so tightly against his own insecurities and expectations (against himself), that he’s unrealistically pressured himself into achieving an impossible goal: he MUST win against All Might on his own. An imperative all-or-nothing, 0 or 100, option. Because as he sees it now, if he relents in any way by using the power of another (Deku), it would be admitting to himself he’s not strong enough to win with his own power. Acknowledging weakness, while simultaneously forced to use underhanded, half-assed, and heck – the weakest (or so he believes about Deku) means to win. Which to him, would be the same as losing (anything less than an indisputable, perfect 100 is 0). And if he had to resort to that, he’d rather lose altogether.

HOOOOOOOOO there! *red sirens blazing* DEKU WILL NOT STAND FOR THIS IMMINENT, CHARACTER BREAKING SELF-DESTRUCTION! Nuh-uh, not from his childhood friend whom he admired precisely for his traits to never give up and lose!! Deku will not allow Kacchan to betray himself and lose the image of what he’s always stood for (victory)! So BAM! Instead of All Might delivering the final blow, Deku gains the strength to punch some much-needed common sense and encouragement back into him! YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!      

OH DAMN, we get an extended anime scene of Deku carrying him off to safety into an alleyway!! For the pep talk, “before you give up, at least try using me!” (In the manga this all happened while he carried him off, heck even the grip on him changed 8D) “YOU’RE YOU BECAUSE YOU NEVER GIVE UP ON WINNING, RIGHT?” (holy shit, added anime lines of encouragement) PLUS THAT FLASHBACK, AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! Deku’s honest and innocent crush admiration for him!!! ;A; This whole time! Deku has viewed Kacchan this way! (yet Kacchan himself still doesn’t know… :’D) 

Also HOLY FUCK!? An anime-only, fucking explosive KABEDON!?!?! (I’m dead :’D) Ok, but here Kacchan finally explains his reasoning for his approach to the fight: against All Might’s crazy speed and power, there’s nowhere to run, and no way a confrontation can be avoided. He learned this as he attacked All Might earlier with his opening move. They have to face him to get through.

SOOOOOOOOOOOO…what do we get!? Kacchan (begrudgingly) AS THE DECOY, while Deku attacks using a full-powered blast from his gauntlet!!! YOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Moment I love: when Deku injures his shoulder from the blow-back, feeling firsthand the amount of strain Kacchan’s under when he uses his quirk. (really, Kacchan’s arms are fucking jacked to withstand the recoil from his explosions) Deku, distracted by that revelation, admires his strength even more!! ;D (promptly reminded by him to get his ass into gear and run too, aha!)

DAD MIGHT’S MONOLOGUE!!! HE HAS ABSOLUTE FAITH IN THEIR FUTURE COOPERATION AND RECONCILIATION AS A PAIR! Perhaps not resolved now, but undoubtedly, this is just a first step towards them achieving greatness together. ;A;

In the manga’s official translations, those emotions paired over Deku and Kacchan were listed as ‘envy, disgust, inferiority’ vs ‘awe, rejection, conceit.’ ‘Hate’ hadn’t been used.

Hooo, they even manage some light banter as they escape towards the gate. D: ‘It doesn’t look like (he’s) chasing us, don’t tell me we knocked him out…?’ K: ‘Bastard, didn’t you keep saying there was no way we’d beat him, you idiot?!’ XDXD Ahhh precisely, Deku’s still blinded with hope/admiration because of him. :’))) Kacchan knows that wasn’t enough to take All Might out, already telling Deku what their next steps will be when he catches up…

OH FUCK, TOO SOON! All Might blitzes them again!! D8 Instantly destroying their strongest means of attack (both gauntlets) and….oh fuck…bodily slamming them against each other in a whirling display of raw, overwhelming power. (even the spectating students back with Recovery Girl are aghast in shock at the brutality) Chastising them that their cooperation together was only a prerequisite to passing the exam. WHAT ELSE CAN THEY DO?!

Ayyyy, Kacchan’s inner monologue where he’s reminded just how insurmountable the power of the Greatest Hero is: ‘this man is the highest wall in the world.’ :’) But in proper, classic ‘Kacchan’ fashion (revived!! thanks to a certain Deku ;D), he doesn’t give up here. Firing a point-blank retaliation blast right where he’s pinned underneath All Might! 8D 

HIS PAIN from the rebound!! ;A; And…ohohoho? An up close and personal warning (whoa there! ;D in the manga he just grabbed his forearm one-handed) that’s he’s gonna fling him to the exit, with his trademark ‘Die!’ attack phrase. :P Buahahah! Classic.    

THE PAIN…THE PAINNNN!!!! Both in Kacchan’s overworked arms and in Deku’s poor breaking back from All Might’s retaliating New Hampshire Smash almost snapping him in two! D8 FFFUUUU!!! Hell, even Kacchan reacts to that! (Deku slamming onto the ground and ricocheting off the bus is really…yike. D8)

But SHIIIIIIT!!!!! MY BOYYYYYY!!! He goes to Deku’s aid! 8’D And FUUUUUU how I love how the anime emphasizes the sharp, throbbing pain pulsing from all the stress his arms are under – his gauntlets allowed him to fire at full power without risk to himself, but NOW… He has to go above and beyond (quite literally, ‘plus ultra’), to ensure Deku secures their win. ;A;

AND HOW!! (Added my fav manga panel for comparison) Unleashing the same full-power, stadium wide blast he used in sports festival – twice here, Deku notes!! (ahhhh Kacchan rearing back, clutching his arms :’DD) Urging Deku to move for the gate! His comment here is telling: “I can still move more than you, with your cobbled-together power!” He knows Deku is a recent study with his quirk, so Kacchan has to be the one who must engage the enemy with what limited firepower they have left. THIS decision…he chooses to become the protective decoy covering for Deku to make it through! (despite all the pain) :’D But that’s not all!! Once All Might slips through the smoke aiming for Deku…Kacchan’s RIGHT THERE! Sacrificing himself as a shield for him!!!! HOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! ;A; Like how Deku borrowed some of his power earlier in this fight (sharing the gauntlet), Kacchan now demonstrates some of that same noble quality inherent to Deku: the power of heroic self-sacrifice. (which All Might admonishes, as it’s a self-destructive, traumatic trait he’s all-too familiar with…) And YET…!

Even after a blow meant to knock him out of that destructive habit, Kacchan still keeps fighting!! (ohhhh my god his broken voice here..!! ;A; heck, even All Might stops smiling) Uwaaaah my boyyy!!!! ;.;

Deku’s reaction is the same as mine: ‘KACCHAAAAN!!!!’ But he’s driven to act with what he does best: to SAVE him despite all odds (with a smile!), JUST like when he ran in to rescue him from the sludge villain all the way back at the start of the story. Because if Kacchan’s ever in danger, Deku will ALWAYS be there for him. :’33 And what does he do!? Punch All Might (is idol, alike that of a god) in the FACE for Kacchan! It’s been pointed out here before, but it’s doubtful if Deku could be driven to react to the same extent – punching All Might, if it was any other teammate paired with him. Because as the story will continue to prove, only Kacchan can get Deku to react with such emotional extremes. :’)  

Taking one from Kacchan’s page again, Deku’s not one to leave this as a ‘half-assed’ win either! So he carries him with him through the gate!! (Kacchan’s long unconscious by now) Deku cannot leave him or secure the ‘indisputable’ win without both of them achieving it together. :’))))) OOOHHHHHHH!!!! ‘That’s just the kind of person (Deku) has always been,’ indeed!

Aftermath: (uwaaaah my boys!!!!!)

All Might acknowledges both Deku’s growth AND the fact that Bakugou, too, always smiles in response to facing an insurmountable wall. THIS is a trait both boys share, which is also a trait inherent to All Might. Here we see a glimpse of the fact that both boys form the two halves of All Might: his quality to win (Bakugou), and his quality to save (Deku). Respectively representing the traits they also happen to admire most from him, ever since their childhood together. And by learning to work together appropriately, after proving in the exam they can cooperate when it matters most, together they have the potential to become the best heroes in the future. All Might recognizes this, and proudly envisions both of them continually growing much stronger from here! :D  

(Villain scheming tease with Shigaraki’s foreboding preview at the end. Ohhhhh damn, how I sincerely hope for a season 3! The events that escalate from here on out I consider some of the strongest in the story. Their adaptation will surely be a huge treat!)

To finalize:

Where Deku needs to learn how to control his quirk without suffering irreversible damage to his body, Bakugou needs room to grow and understand that compromising to work for less than a personal 100% best, and conceding help from others, does not mean the same as a compromised win. Nor does it mean he’s weak for accepting the cooperation from others either. (In many cases, inspiring teamwork and camaraderie is a beneficial strength.) He needs to learn how to meet people half-way, and from THIS episode, we see both his origin and turning point revealing the depths of what he’s capable of. Depths that had always been there, but have been brought out into the light thanks to Deku’s positive intervention. :’3 Despite what they may feel about one another (mostly thanks to misunderstandings and a lack of proper communication), they remain each other’s strongest driving force for positive development in the narrative. Which will remain a consistent, and most rewarding dynamic to see grow throughout the rest of the series.

Hello! I hope you’re doing well!! I stumbled upon your great account last year when i was looking for My Mister meta & analyses along with the givemeslippers fansite, it was the first time i watched this drama and i believe it will keep a special place in my heart! I decided last week would be a good time to watch it again and it wretched my heart then healed it again, as if it was the first time haha!

If this doesn’t bother you, i wanted to ask you something: what were your thoughts on the last scene of DJY/PDH’s confrontation in ep. 14, when Dong Hoon punches him as he says he wasn’t the only one ‘vulgar’, and right after the flashback plays (‘if nobody knows, then it is nothing’)?

I would say it was a gut reaction to what was said previously, since his breathing picked up right after the innuendo and i didn’t notice the close-up on his face, maybe threatening him to admit their relationship is not ‘nothing’, & his face contorted in panic/shock right after, his mind elsewhere, even though he felt relieved to take all this, whatever it is, out on DJY.

And also, maybe unconsciously, the flashback confirmed par a contrario DJY's question: if somebody knows (about their relationship), then it is a big deal? I find it interesting that all this 'if nobody knows, then it is nothing' is the whole theme of this scene: i believe it was also what made PDH leave on purpose his cell phone outside of this confrontation, to reassure Ji An this wasn't a big deal to him to prevent her from fleeing out of shame and guilt (as he said in this whole flashback) and that he only wants to contact her again.

I don’t believe it is out of frustration at the whole wiretapping issue, as some people have said, because the scenes just before took the time to show how moved DH was to learn Ji An took her side despite it all, and she fled for him, contrary to what she said to him during the phone booth call (she was getting sick of being judged). That her support by his side made even more sense (and mattered much more) since he learnt she knew everything.

But I can’t wrap my head around this scene!

I wish there were a specials for this series, like other dramas, how Ji An and Dong Hoon’s dinner reunion went, how the Hoogye district is doing ...? but i guess that’s some wishful thinking haha! Anyway, i’ll keep on hoping a tiny little bit and i’ll draw something to show how grateful i was this series came into my life one day! The final scene was too short, but it was overwhelmingly emotional aaaaa

hey hi anon, long is fine (i love it!), English not being your first language is more than fine (it’s not mine either! i don’t know if you noticed but i think most kdrama fans in general are non-native English speakers, and honestly, who cares?) - what matters is someone wants to talk My Mister to me, and it’s always great to have My Mister back in my life! i haven’t rewatched it in a while, mostly because i always want to give it my full attention and that has been a problem lately 

that scene... well. you are absolutely right, it’s definitely not about the wiretapping - wiretapping is a non-issue by now. Dong Hoon cries twice in the last, what? ten? minutes of this episode, and it’s not because he’s angry. and never after does he say anything with a slightest hint of judgment about this. Ji An mentions she doesn’t listen anymore now that she knows that he knows and  later that she will uninstall the app, and he just believes her, never bringing it up again, never asking her if she did in fact uninstall it. i mean, i probably would.

back to that scene, though. i think that here we have Park Dong Hoon who wouldn’t even admit to himself that maybe what he feels for Ji An is something more than... whatever he tells himself it is: desire to protect someone who needs protection, friendly affection for someone who seems to know and understand him like no one else, just basic human decency, etc. etc. etc. and not only does this weasel spit out a label (something the creators of the drama carefully avoid, making the secondary characters make these assumptions), but says that Dong Hoon and Ji An’s relationship is the same as his and Dong Hoon’s wife’s, calls Dong Hoon vulgar/sleazy. does it echo what he very secretly might think of himself? i wouldn’t be surprised. he must be disgusted by the idea of being just like Joon Young, probably the only person he truly hates in this world. or maybe he is just disgusted that Joon Young cheapens this precious affinity with this comparison. maybe it’s all of the above. 

and that ties into the flashback, which is certainly there for a reason. it’s a recurrent DH theme, isn’t it. “if no one knows, it’s not a big deal”. and now someone knows - and says it out loud. and he will somehow have to deal with it, because it is now a big deal. no wonder he takes all of it out on Joon Young, who conveniently deserves it.

X-men Evolution; the great 2021 rewatch liveblog

exactly what it says on the tin, about halfway through the show I had TOO MANY FEELINGS and had to start writing some of them out haha (gets quite gambit & rogue/gambit heavy in the latter half, Because of Who I Am as a Person)

- this is my childhood’s x-men, my formative experience with them, and I’m happy to report that still seems like a good thing. the little eleven year old within me gets to geek out and have a good time with the characters and the surprisingly good animation and writing, adult me gets to CACKLE at regular intervals at the fashion/technology/absolute bonkers hot garbage comic book nonsense they use to justify a storyline every now and then, it’s been a good time 

- I was like ‘ah well it is super dated it probably won’t be quite the same now’ and then rogue’s HAIR did the THING in the opening and ‘it’s all coming back to me now’ started playing in the background... the little baby queer in me swooning across time and space

- such a good beast, both his design and the writing, my heart aches for him all the time. he’s just so passionate! about being a teacher! helping young humans learn the stuff they’ll need in life! the most wonderful nerd man, just let good things happen for him

- I’m going to go ahead and assume that rogue’s ‘crush’ on scott is more of a deeply complex psychological process about desiring normalcy and intimacy and trying to figure out if she’s queer and dealing with her emerging sexuality and latching on to the first and best safely unavailable and nonthreatening older boy to project these issues onto rather than actually being a real thing, because I respect her so much as a person and I cannot bring myself to imagine she’s honestly attracted to a man who has POSTERS OF CARS on his bedroom wall. (I’ll give jean a break just because she seems to have a longer deeper history with him that might counteract some of that libido-kill, and also she’s a jock so lol)

like I am very sorry but can u imagine being a teenage girl with any interest in a boy with model cars in his bedroom when gambit’s swanning around being a much, much, much worse choice on almost every possible level but in a teen girl kryptonite kind of way? inconceivable  

(I drag scott quite a few times in this and it’s not because I don’t love him, it’s just his tragedy to be the most draggable man in the world)

to be fair by the time gambit shows up that whole Situation has mostly played itself out I suppose but still  

- toad’s design is so ineffably brilliant, I can’t quite tell you why but that ugly cute charm has really stuck with me, he’s one of the characters I remembered the best to this day just visually

- poor evan... he truly never had a chance, did he, they just saddled him with the most 90s teen bullshit they could come up with like he’s some kind of ‘what adult writers think teens like’ frankenstein’s monster ;______; it’s not your fault honey

- poor poor POOR storm, she gets one focus episode and they were like ‘we’re going to make an episode so racist -- ‘

I’m still STUNNED at how bad it was, but undeniably I laughed hysterically to the point that my neighbours were probably worried when that dude was earnestly like ‘He [stunningly breathlessly racist caricature of a ‘witch doctor’ guy] has stolen her powers, and he’s going to use them to take over Africa!!!’ fhajsdlfhsakjldfh oh really? tell me more, like how the fUCK this could be on television within my life time fasdlfhsdkjfhsad f  just... fahjksdfh

- it’s a testament to gambit’s appeal as a character that his charm can survive what they’ve done with his hair and beard choices in this one fajskfhs regrettable but true I still fuckn LOVE him and in my highly biased yet Correct opinion he should have been around much more. get you a man who manages to stay hot through sheer Vibes even with a bowl cut

- aw scott/jean is kind of sweet in this show even if it’s taking them forEVER to get there, I like it 

- it’s very nice of rogue to not mention magneto’s romantic daydreams and nostalgic memories about charles xavier after touching his face that one time... or maybe her brain did her a service and repressed it, there’s some stuff you shouldn’t have to know about your father figure   

- the danger room is the very definition of ‘why do we even have that lever’ and I wonder what the fuck prof x does to have enough money to replace everything that gets busted all the time

- I’d say that a lot of the writing holds up surprisingly well! (but some of it is also incredibly inexcusably racist in ways that beggar belief, so... not full marks here) the characters have distinct voices and their arcs are set up and delivered on solidly for the most part, and there’s a lot of love showing through in small moments that are just there to have a funny/interesting thing to say about the characters and how their powers work separately and in combination. listen, sometimes I get so thirsty for like. basic goddamn competency in storytelling, let me have this

- ugggggh why is there captain america in my x-men have I not suffered enough... very very funny when prof x goes ‘sounds like you knew rogers personally’ and logan is like ‘I did ;)’ *all the students ganging up on steve rogers* “did you fuck our teacher, captain america?!”

- fskadfhas WHY are you showing me hot young-ified magneto’s ass fksjahfskj charles is not even here to see it, what a tragic waste erik 

- ...I was sort of kidding before but uh I think logan genuinely did fuck captain america (or at least wishes very much that he did lol)

- wanda can have a little watching the world burn. as a treat for the way every single adult in her life has fucking failed her (’aren’t they treating you well here’ professor x she’s in a straightjacket)  

- poor rogue tho can you imagine finding out after your biggest crush on a girl yet that she’s your fucking MOM in disguise... I would break out in cold sweat every time I thought about a boob forever after

- well seems like they really just had all that homoerotic rivalry stuff between quicksilver and spyke in their first ep only to never do anything with that again ever?? I mean even without the gay undertone that seems like a dynamic you spent most of an episode setting up writers what the hell haha

- dslhfkasjlh GAMBIT THERE HE IS MY BOY IS ON THE SCENE THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!! I don’t even care about his awful hair situation or the fact that his eyes are wrong here (coloured contact lenses, maybe, for a watsonian explanation? though he’d probably have to get them made special, considering he needs the sclera and the iris covered up in different ways, I’ve seen some comic panels indicating he has been known to?)

(cute little detail: when he shuffles the cards the first time we see him he ends with removing the top card to show the ace of hearts beneath <3 foreshadowing baBEY he’s a... good-ish boy deep down. hey he tries okay shit gets complicated sometimes lol) 

- cracking UP at gambit perched cheerily on the edge of a crate dispensing cards in the middle of the battle... he’s like ‘eh it’s a livin’ sfsajkhf remy stop working for supervillains just because you had nothing to do on a thursday afternoon and they said they’d pay you

- I’m guessing magneto must have imposed a strict order of silence on these guys or something because I cannot imagine any other reason for him to shut up, especially once he notices rogue is a QTE (or, far more likely, they hadn’t settled on any voice actors for the new characters until next season haha. it is kind of odd that they’re all keeping up near monastic silence, though, even sabertooth lol) 

- WHAT an epic first meeting for us rogue/gambit fans here... first his shadow like there’s fireworks going off behind him lighting him up and then he gives her the fuckn king of hearts and she’s so enchanted by his dumb handsome face she doesn’t even notice it’s about to blow up in her hands and it all happens in heavily meaningful silence afjsdfjashjk no wonder this ship ingrained itself in my hindbrain  

yeah look smug while you can remy she’s gonna have you on your knees one day and you’ll be happy about it lol

- god storm is so COOL, everything just fading out of focus when she really gets going... give her more screen time, show!!

- holy fuck I respect the hell out of the decision to just... blow up the entire status quo in a season ender, I only vaguely remembered that (actually in general I appreciate how good the continuity is -- buildings and places that get damaged in battles need to be repaired or rebuilt, it makes the consequences feel more real even when no one gets seriously hurt. where they get the money to restore scott’s car and logan’s motorbikes every time they go cablooie is still an open question tho lol is it credit card fraud, professor? is it telepathically acquired blackmail???) 

- I first watched this when I was nine or so, so it’s a real experience to go from my starry eyed intrigued ‘oh my god... they’re teenagers’ to my horrified adult perspective of ‘oh my god... they’re TEENAGERS D:’

that goes double for the brotherhood boys honestly, I’m here with tears in my eyes like ‘I’m sorry the system has failed you so badly you’re all just a bunch of dumb kids whose caretakers clearly fucked up spectacularly’  

like lance is always waiting for mystique to come back because she’s the closest thing he has to a safe parental figure, may we speak about how crushingly depressing that is 

- rogue is so ready to throw hands at literally any moment and for that I love and treasure her immensely (I think getting to see her be so surly and unreasonable and sometimes difficult and jealous, like any teenager, meant a lot to me as a kid who was not really allowed to be any of these things, this version of the character has stayed with me so deeply. she holds on so fiercely to her right to feel what she feels and be what she is even when it’s ‘ugly’ or unreasonable, which I think plays in really interestingly with how her powers involve getting invaded by other people’s thoughts and memories to the point of overwhelming her own sense of self and the fact that she clearly has a lot of self-loathing and self-consciousness and confusion about her identity as well. I love her so much)  

- oooof this is the ‘the gang experience a microaggression’ episode huh (well more like macroagressions really)

hits a bit different with adult eyes and perspective huh

- hearing jean sound almost like a child when she says ‘that’s so unfair!’ somehow has me like ;______; -- she has to be so adult and responsible all the time, and having her be reduced to the kid she still is and should get to be in front of this awful awful man she could squash like a bug with the flick of a thought... ugh I’m Big Sad (it is funny that jean seemingly plays Every Sport tho djfhaskj)

- MY BOY IS BACK!!! this time with the duster coat and his eyes the right colour, im so happy (too bad about the subdued colour scheme tho; I adore his dumb bright pink getup with my whole heart)

it’s kind of adorable that he takes the time to take the bullies aside and go ‘I know these guys can’t wreck you without getting expelled, but I think you’ll find no law set down by god or man would stop me from doing so whenever I wanted to. so piss off and leave them alone’ lol he’s looking out for them, in his own way

- in this episode: remy lebeau wrangles some kids while looking bored yet mildly amused the whole time. what the fuck does magneto have on you for you to agree to this level of babysitting duty buddy

- fun detail I noticed b/c when I get a fave I hyperfixate: he gave rogue the king of hearts before, but he ‘introduces’ himself to the brotherhood here (lol) with the jack of hearts, probably to symbolize he’s here as someone who works for magneto in this setting and not as his own man? it’s a demotion he’s given himself there, anyway, might be he’s not very pleased about his current position huh 

- I like it when rogue and kitty team up, they’re not very effective together but their squabbling is so cute and non-aggressive 

- pietro is what draco malfoy would be if I ever found malfoy interesting to watch for even one moment, every time quicksilver talks I’m like ‘what wonderfully insufferable thing is going to come out of your mouth this time you little shit :’)’

- a) why are scott and logan shirtless for this scene? I am not complaining on the logan side of things at least but why and b) I laughed so hard I almost fell off my couch when scott asked logan if he’d ever been in love and he was like ‘once. she was the most beautiful bike I ever saw’ falsdfhaskjfhsakjlfhasklhjfd THE BEST VERSION OF WOLVERINE EVER, ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES 

- mystique’s sheer dedication to being a petty bitch is kind of inspirational tbh, almost makes me want to go on a completely bonkers and extra crusade of personal revenge myself  

- oooh they’re doing some genuinely cool things with vision/lack of vision in this one (it’s the scott left on his own in the desert without glasses one btw) even visually, dang! I’m so sad this show didn’t get more seasons than it did, honestly, it deserved it

- there’s some very interesting and quite subtle subtext about the people she’s morphing into and what that says about her mental state/how it shows off some of her emotional baggage with the rest of the team. it’s like she’s switching between people/powers that fit the purpose as if she’s going through cycles of fight/flight (and then bursts of freeze where she’s herself, which is... so sad)

- this whole episode is hurting my heart but rogue at full power is undeniably epic

(I love that when magneto moves by he looks startled and has to quickly move his head out of the way to avoid getting kicked in the temple too that’s a fun detail)

I’m so INTO how this sequence shows off that his greatest strength isn’t even his powers (which are pretty straightforward, really, he makes go boom, longer time and bigger thing bigger boom) but that he’s clever and creative and always extremely ready to be the most harebrained-bananapants-extra-in-a-deceptively-laidback-sort-of-way person in the room (I actually have some genuinely Deep Thoughts about how his whole character does a really interesting thing with having the straightforwardly destructive nature of his powers yield to what his nature as a person is, and how using the playing cards play (heh) into it, maybe I’ll write it out some day. just the fact that he could use anything, but he deliberately chose something that adds style and playfulness and corny charm to it and that also limits the damage of the explosions compared to if he habitually used something with more mass... I find it fascinating how much he’s made a story around himself with it and how deeply it shows he does have a good heart, at the end of the day, in almost a metatextual way. he doesn’t want to destroy things or people, he’s at worst (and best lol) a thief.)

- I honestly have literally no memory of white nick fury (which seems so weird now isn’t it funny) in this series from when I was a kid, he clearly did not make an impression on me lol

- mr wolverine ‘assigned canadian at birth’ x-men 

- oh man I dig the androgynity of x-23′s outfit (even tho they had to compensate with the long hair, which... kind of doesn’t make sense in-universe but does on a design level because it’s a crucial thing that she’s a female clone of logan so yeah okay fine whatever have your arbitrary gender markers if you must haha)

ooooooh that’s actually really clever, they make her gender gradually more obvious as she unravels through the episode and her outfit changes -- first the mask coming off, and then her jacket opening to show her silhouette more clearly, that’s cool!  

- my god what really sets this show apart is how much it invests in little character and relationship moments, it’s just so fucking GOOD! it gives laura looking in on those moments such depth and weight because it’s new to her but established to us as an audience, this is how you make found family devastating people (storm growing bonsai trees is so charming too haha)

- the first time I watched this it was of course dubbed into norwegian, so I had no idea either of these characters were southern lol (though to be fair I probably wouldn’t have had much context for what it meant exactly either, I was like ten at the time and not too interested in america) I seem to dimly remember the norwegian voice actor did a little more of a ‘french’-tinged accent for gambit all over tho haha

- fun detail: when the x-men team are on the shore and logan is sniffing around scott is stepping in something and trying to wipe it off his boots in the background

- when he wakes up after passing out from the touch he’s smiling even though she’s standing over him looking like the rage of god outlined by the moon fsajfsa well the last time he passed out like that it was from a kiss, maybe he still has some hopes and dreams in that direction lol (also he recovers from the tumble down the hill first and is checking on her before accidentally brushing her cheek with his hand, which I thought was sweet) 

and it was in that moment he knew he fucked up *passes out*

- did it ever even occur to you to just. ask her. to help you. I mean I know it didn’t but like rogue’s always one second away from throwing hands with some bully and is stupidly ride or die, if you’d given her the puppydog eyes she would have crumbled immediately (fair enough I guess this entire episode is telling us he’s not from a background where he has much experience with people just helping him without a price haha) 

- his eyes glowing when he’s angry or upset or using a lot of his power is undeniably cool as all hell. I’m just saying it would be Big Sexy if they sort of flickered with light in moments of genuine vulnerability okay  

- his coat... his coat is what makes the Silhouette tm and I could not be happier about it 

- another parent of the year contestant enters the running lol “hey remy have you ever considered that you’re more of a walking bomb factory than a person? that’s certainly how I think of you hahaha c’mon kid let’s go” 

- the running joke of jean luc getting dollar signs in his eyes seeing the other mutant powers and gambit being like ‘nO!!!!’ and pulling him along is amazing haha

- from the way he looks when he touches rogue accidentally and the way he talks to his dad I’m sort of getting the feeling this gambit might actually be a bit younger than he looks?

here too -- idk why but it’s making the ‘wait is he baby???’ alarms go off in my head haha. very early twenties at most. 

- and we’ve officially seen him with all the face cards in the heart suit folks! (yes this is the sort of thing my brain notices no I don’t know either)

- poor logan running his ass off this whole episode in a panic and then she’s like ‘nah he’s fine (in several meanings of the word ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) ) please put him down’ hfaskfsda

- rogue without makeup!!! her eyes look so naked like this haha <3

- oooh here’s a really interesting thing that tickles my brain a bit in this specific part of the scene where gambit frees his dad -- the part where he’s leaning against the door frame waiting for jean luc, who’s about to suggest using the opportunity to ruin the rival gang from the inside rather than slipping away while they still can

from his expression here he knows what’s about to happen, what jean luc is about to say, and it’s clearly a ‘man who thought he’d lost all hope loses last additional bit of hope he didn’t even know he still had’ sort of situation. he KNOWS what jean luc is like, and it still hurts that he really, honestly can’t give him even this, can’t appreciate that remy’s already done all this shit for him when he extremely didn’t have to, without immediately (no really, it took him less than ten seconds to go there? jesus) demanding more.  

remy tells him “I’m just here for you” and jean luc does not understand it. remy seems to be sincere in this motivation -- rogue certainly thinks so, having experienced it second hand and found enough at least emotional merit in it to decide he was worth saving even after all his bullshit (lol a bit of a running theme maybe. I think it’s very telling that after she absorbed mystique she was like ‘what the FUCK you’re a fucking monster’, and after she absorbed gambit she went ‘you did the wrong thing for the right reasons’ after she got over the first wave of outrage) 

there’s also what he says as he stands there: “You don’t need me for that”, with the distinct implication that jean luc would only keep him around because he has a use for him and for no other reason -- and then jean luc shamelessly doubles down on that by specifying that it’s not even him he’s got a use for as such, just his powers. that’s some kicking puppies level of deliberately missing the point, it’s almost impressive in how cheerfully mean it is haha

this idea of using people is really important in this episode because remy’s doing basically exactly the same thing to rogue to begin with; it doesn’t really matter to his plan that it’s her that’s with him through this, just what her powers are. (I think it’s  p r e t t y  solidly implied that he does actually like her a lot outside of that too and maybe there is some comfort in having her around for this, but mostly he’s behind a smokescreen of lies through the whole thing sooo I doubt he’s even aware of it, honestly)     

but then it does matter that it’s her when she comes back for him, even after what he did. and unlike jean luc he understands what that means, that she did that for him, and that she didn’t have to. and instead of asking her for more, in return he gives her the thing it’s been established is what he considers the most valuable thing he has; his ‘last card’, the thing he’s credited with keeping him alive many a time, basically. it’s gone from using to mutuality, a tentative place of friendship, and at the end of the day he is a different man than his adoptive father, with a capacity for selflessness and love he lacks. which is of course some of the same stuff going on with rogue and mystique too, except rogue acted from a more fragile and unstable place and did something she regrets, or at least has a LOT of doubts about now, and she found some catharsis in helping someone make a different choice in a similar situation. man there’s some Stuff going on under the surface here haha

(by the way it’s a weirdly... meaningless yet intensely meaningful thing, the gifting of a symbol? of an idea? but he’s putting something very crucial of himself into her hands, is the subtext, and he expects her to understand, which she also does seem to do. at the beginning of the episode he’s proving that he’s seen something true about her -- “You’re such an unhappy girl”, knowing where she comes from, the way she’s mourning her lost confidence and autonomy with her abilities -- and here she’s proving she’s seen something true about him. :’) I wish this show had gone on long enough for this dynamic to progress, it’s really interesting and touching)

the only valid thing mystique has done in her entire life is be in love with destiny. literally everything else she gets up to is a travesty. like I know objectively she’s hot but my loathing for her stops me from even appreciating it. I do enjoy loathing her tho so please don’t change her haha

(a bit odd to have kurt’s attitude to her swing so much but I’m just going to assume he and rogue had a good long conversation after ‘cajun spice’ and that he understands what’s going on better now)

- this last part is such a cruel tease faskdfhsdaj ‘here are all the cool-ass things we had planned. sucks you never get to see it huh’ im devastated 

- magneto without his helmet and playing charmingly with children like charles is going ‘well at least I saved my marriage finally’ fsadkhfjsd (honestly tho I would be super interested in seeing how they’d redeem this magneto because he’s been a real bitch the whole time lol) 

there’s an interesting thing here where magneto looks down at wanda as the last thing he does on screen before this epilogue part (yeah I hope it fucking haunts you forever what you did to her erik you absolute piece of hot garbage) and the last thing charles does is look at jean b/c he knows what’s going to happen to her and it breaks his heart... Dramatic Parallells  

- just the hint of jean as the phoenix has me in full D:D:D: mode tho maybe I wouldn’t have survived it

- gambit in the last groupshot with his arm around rogue ;^) I mean I’m sure they’re headed for some turns and roundabouts along the way but what’s that thing she says as her wedding vow, that she’ll always find her way back? anyway that got me in my heart

- man I really wish this show had been given more seasons, we were barely even getting warmed up here :’(
