jon has always thought themselves to be right --- just. fair. honorable. they always tried to do the right thing. always tried to keep their conscience clean. their heart pure. a lifetime of unreasonable guilt and shame always motivated them to be good, despite the darkness that lurks in every corner of king’s landing. jon has begged the starks to keep them from being implicated, a promise they’ve made good on. and they’ve lived a relatively normal life, free from the sinful blood and the deceit as much as they could be. they see themselves as a neutral player in this game; a piece from an entirely different game placed on a chess board. but life, like a child with a resourceful imagination, finds a way to play with them.
but jon being jon makes the choice of dealing with this manila envelope easy. they offer the choice of lyanna, their relationship perpetually rocky, but in this moment was on the mend after the stunt of a wedding, and jon believes if they tell her, it’ll be out of their hands. it’s their best option. jon doesn’t know the intricacies of the families, doesn’t know the consequences, doesn’t know what the envelope implies. jon just knows --- thinks that this is information the starks deserve to know in order to save them.
they texted her first that they were going to be dropping by, one hand raised to knock on the door and the other clutching at the envelope. jon raps their knuckles on the wood and fidgets with the edges of the paper, a little nervous despite their conviction.

If there was one thing that could be said about her ( in reality she knew that there’d be many ) it was that she didn’t really care what people thought about her. So long as their opinions did no damage to her family she never much had cared for pleasing others or abiding by what was deemed socially acceptable. Her entire life had been filled with breaking laws, why would she begin to concern herself with breaking social norms? There would be some that might have thought that her going out so soon after her sister’s death was inappropriate, not that she would ever really listen to them. Instead she had taken the loss of Lysa as a reminder that life was short and she would be damned if she let other people’s opinions make it all pass her by.
Almost empty glass of wine in her hand, she’d been putting the world to rights before she quickly drained it and signalled for another one. The pause in her speech gave her a moment to truly appreciate the time that they were spending together and she leaned in towards her sister in law. “I missed this.” Even though the two had kept in touch having Lyanna back in King’s Landing was infinitely better than having to their catch ups over the phone.
