I do love the Wyll we got, don't get it twisted. I Love Wyll. As I've said he's up there with Astarion and Gort for me. (Minthy, Orin and Lae'zel are my favorite fem characters btw. If you even CARE!!!!!!) That said, he's missing content + too much of his edge was polished away. The true Wyll lies somewhere between early access and full release Wyll… my Wylliam dollars as it were…
My ideal Wyll, I think, is one that retains some key traits from early access.
1) His immaturity! EA Wyll was temperamental, and spoiled, but most of all he was young- his temper and lack of worldliness was tied to this directly. I really like The Blade shtick and I like that Wyll is trying to do good, but let him be naive about it! Let him see things in black and white, no nuance. Let him grow out of this. He's inexperienced. He'll learn!
2) His racism. I like the idea of him being a hero, and maybe he's even one accepting of traditionally more marginalized and villainized races, but NOT goblins. He has a personal grudge against goblins for entirely selfish reasons that he should eventually struggle to overcome throughout the narrative.
3) His edge when he was a boy. He was a loser! A petty criminal, a troublemaker. I would love that to still be that case! Contrast that with the Wyll he's become, and the Wyll he'll continue to be as he grows. Have other characters bring it up in act 3 a bunch. Wyll was an asshole; so he forged the identity of the blade of frontiers to be the 'hero' worthy of idolizing he always wanted to be, but he's struggling to make it a reality.
I had more to say but you get the picture, yeah-?
