Black Adam Thoughts

Saw Black Adam today. It wasn’t the worst movie ever, but it wasn’t all too great either. To get the good things out of the way, I liked the JSA a lot, the fights were visually well done and fun to watch for the most part, and the post-credit scene was just fantastic. First off is the post-credit scene. Henry Cavill’s return as Superman was great, and it hopefully will set up his appearance in future DCEU content. Next is the fights, whether it was that awesome fight with Doctor Fate and Sabbac or the JSA vs Black Adam, the fights were action packed and entertaining. One of my favorite moments was when Doctor Fate was fighting Sabbac and every time one of his illusions would get destroyed it would transition into the helmet of another Doctor Fate illusion. The fight with the JSA and Black Adam was also nice because everyone was doing something instead of it just being Doctor Fate and Hawkman fighting. The final good thing about the movie was the JSA. The JSA was a surprise, as I expected to only like Doctor Fate, but the whole team worked well for me. I liked Atom Smasher’s comedic relief to the group, but it didn’t come off as annoying. Overall, my favorite character in the movie was Doctor Fate. He came off as a wise mentor to the younger members of the JSA, and the visuals with his powers was just spectacular. One of the moments that stuck out visually was when Kent put on the helmet and then disappeared with his sorcery. Now that the goods are out of the ways...there were a lot of things I didn’t like about this movie. The main flaws with it for me were Adrianna and Amon, Sabbac as a villain, the Rock’s performance, and all of the flashbacks. I didn’t care too much for Adrianna and Amon’s characters, and they didn’t seem to do much throughout the whole movie. Amon was just a kid who was in the movie for the sole purpose of being captured and bargained for so the villain can get the crown, while Adrianna was just boring. I also didn’t care for the Rock’s performance of Black Adam. His lines just always came off as bland and emotionless, and if they were going for that then fair enough, but it just didn’t work well with the movie. He is doing good things by going to save Amon, but he shows no emotion while doing it that it just doesn’t seem right. I also hated Sabbac as a villain. He was just a generic power-hungry villain that we’ve seen before that doesn’t do anything until the end of the movie. Finally, I think the flashbacks didn’t work at all in this movie. I always think showing instead of telling is better, but in this case I just wish they wouldn’t have shown it and had Black Adam explain his past. Overall, the movie was really just not good. I would watch the scenes with Doctor Fate and the JSA any day, but there isn’t much more to care about with this movie.

Wall Decoration Part 1…
This is a new comic series I’ll be working on. This will be about Echo’s time with being captured by the separatist and what lead to how he ended up in season 7 of clone wars. This will for sure not be a happy comic lol

Spider-Man No Way Home. I’m going to start off by saying this movie is not only my favorite Spider-Man movie of all time, but it was one of the greatest experiences I’ve had in a movie theater. This movie is amazing in so many ways, but before I talk about all of the good I’m going to get out my two problems with the movie. First off, I feel like the first third of the movie is underwhelming when compared to the rest. Everything before the Doctor Strange and Spider-Man duel was more relaxed and a lot slower pacing wise than the rest of the movie. When looking at the movie as a whole, I don’t think that’s a big problem, as it’s incredibly hard to have every bit of the movie be amazing, but that was one of my issues. Secondly, I feel as if though Sandman and the Lizard were underutilized in this movie. I think something that would’ve made the first third of the movie more interesting for me would’ve been if they would have shown the Lizard being captured. I felt it was odd we saw the other four villains get captured, but not the Lizard. Sandman was also underutilized in my opinion because I didn’t feel any motivation to his actions. During one scene he was saying how he just wants to get back to his daughter, while in a later scene he is completely fine with just not helping to get back to his dimension. While I was unsatisfied with Lizard and Sandman, I’m completely fine with that, as the Green Goblin was absolutely amazing in this movie. I loved how the entire time it was the goblin hiding behind Norman Osborn, lurking in the shadows. Then when he saw the opportunity he revealed himself and gave a heart-wrenching Aunt May death and a beautifully shot action sequence in the apartment. You really can feel how hopeless Peter is after. The final battle between the Green Goblin and Tom Holland’s Spider-Man was an emotional battle that showed how dark Peter can get, as he nearly kills the Green Goblin. You can really feel the impact that every hit has as Peter’s rage was being unleashed on Green Goblin. The music, fight choreography, and acting from both Holland and Dafoe made the scene a standout. The bridge battle was a fun one that gave some nice action to the Iron Spider suit and Doc Ock, and the battle between Strange and Spidey was full of breathtaking visuals and a unique setting for a battle in the mirror dimension. The reveal of Tobey and Andrew coming back as past Spider-Men was something that brought tears to my eyes, and I feel all three Spider-Men were done perfectly. Tom was broken, having just lost his aunt. Tobey gave off Uncle Ben vibes from his universe. Andrew was filled with quirky and funny moments, whether it be when he first enters the portal, or when he talks right before the final battle. He added a lot of humor that didn’t feel out of place in the movie. Their appearances made this movie one of the most fun movie experiences I’ve had, and it didn’t even feel like fan service, which I was happy with. The final 3v3 between the Spider-Men and Lizard, Electro, and Sandman was full of awesome callbacks and fun action. We got to see the three Spider-Men swing together and that moment where they land on the Statue of Liberty is something I’m sure will become iconic in future years. Doc Ock’s redemption didn’t feel out of place either, and I loved the moment between Tobey’s Spider-Man and Doc Ock. The callbacks were amazing all throughout. Finally, I think this movie gave Tom Holland’s Spider-Man a perfect end to his arc. He had to make one of the hardest decisions from getting everyone’s memories wiped, but it shows how truly selfless he can be and defines what kind of hero he is. Overall, I’d say Spider-Man No Way Home is an experience that any fan of Marvel or Spider-Man should watch and is a movie that has become a standout in the MCU.

Spoilers for Book of Boba Fett. Since Book of Boba Fett has just concluded, I have some thoughts on it. First off, I think the flashbacks were the best sequences of the show for the most part. They did some intriguing things for the Tuskens that I really enjoyed. It painted a different perspective to them that mirrored real life treatment of Indigenous groups and gave a new light to them, which I was fascinated by. However, the flashback for episode 4 didn’t do much for me, as it’s a part of Boba’s story I didn’t need to see. I wasn’t interested in seeing him meet Fennec and getting his ship back, but overall the flashbacks were a nice inclusion to the show. On the flip side, I think the present timeline was lacking. Characters like Boba, Fennec, and Krrsantan weren’t used to their greatest potential and I feel they didn’t exactly know what they were doing with it. I wish we got more character moments throughout the series instead of just primarily in the finale. The decision to spend episodes 5 and 6 with Mando was odd to me as it’s something I feel could have been saved for the Mandalorian season 3. Sure, it was nice seeing Grogu, Luke, Ahsoka, and the Mandalorians again, but it’s something that I feel was only in this series to explain why Grogu ends up with Mando again. I think they could’ve taken out the stuff that had to do with Grogu and find a better alternative, as it would’ve given us more of the titular character. Don’t get me wrong I loved the duel between Din and Paz, seeing some of Grogu’s training, and some nice callbacks with Ahsoka and Luke, but it didn’t feel like the right place for it. The villains weren’t intimidating enough, as we only first saw them attack in the penultimate episode. They could have sprinkled in parts of the Pykes being bad guys throughout the series, which would have made the final episode more impactful and raised the stakes. What we did get was cool, but it didn’t feel like the war that was being talked about towards the middle of the series. The finale did give some amazing moments though, as I loved seeing Boba stomp around on a Rancor, the battle in the streets with Din and Boba using their arsenals, and the reveal that the Pykes were the ones who killed Boba’s tribe. That was all stuff that the show really needed throughout, but while it was awesome to see, it didn’t have the buildup to make them satisfying enough. They were cool scenes, but it would have been more satisfying if we would have seen a buildup instead of just randomly getting it. Finally, the inclusion of Cad Bane is something I’m split on. While I love him as a character, his death felt underwhelming. For such a significant figure in the Star Wars universe, he died easier than what I expected. I do like how Boba uses what the Tuskens taught him to kill Bane and the amazing duel between Cobb Vanth and Cad Bane in the episode 6. Overall, I’m split between the Book of Boba Fett, as while I love a lot about it, I also felt that they could have utilized certain things better and it left me wanting more from its first season.
