Rewatching Death Note while I clean (we have friends staying over this weekend and our whole apartment is a depression pit fml) and had a thought

Do they ever explain how they got Lind L Tailor to play the part of L on TV? I’m 90% sure they don’t in the anime (i paused it to type this) and its been a long ass time since I read the manga so i don’t remember shit.

But like. I need to know. Because its hard to believe that not only did they find a criminal that looks somewhat like L who’s arrest and sentencing was never made public, they managed to convince him to act on TV and possible be killed by a heart attack instead of whatever they do on death row in Japan.

I know what you’re thinking, “Cinnamon this is a fictional show about a teenager with a notebook that kills people this show isn’t exactly know for being realistic” but!!! I’m curious now

Did they bribe him with freedom? Like “hey if we don’t find Kira then you can leave”? Was he unaware of Kira’s existence and lied to? “We’ll probably do multiple takes for funsies”? What if he was doing it to keep his fellow criminals safe??
