i am on the impossible task of trying to figure out where the fuck this fucking picture came from

so far ive found these two instances of it from 2007 and 2005 respectively (both on two different forums as well) but that doesnt really tell me much ? is this image actually from something specific, or is it just some default option that these older forums had??

anyone with information pls reply

after a little more digging i wasn’t able to find more copies of this image/the original, but here’s what im starting to think based on what i’ve seen

so. the earliest known appearances of this image come from two different phpbb forums, which are old as shit (and therefore it’s really hard to find anything now).

despite this i was able to ascertain that “avatar packs” were a common commodity, most obviously to be used as a resource for forum users to find profile pictures for themselves. however it was also possible for forum admins to set custom default avatars with them as well

what i think could’ve happened is that this rabbit avatar had been included in one of these packs, and the users in the screenshots either downloaded the same pack and they incidentally chose the same image, and slash or the image had been included as a default avatar option on either forum

the relevance to the forum craze of the early 2000s brings somethingawful to mind, and we all ought to know the significance of that with regards to the slenderverse - it’s where it all started. and we know the emh guys were there too as they used it for their own series in the early days

given all of this, i think it’s very likely that the guys found this image through the forums they’d been around. i wouldn’t put it past somethingawful if this avatar had been among the default options also, although im not sure if that can be proved

as interesting as it it may be to make more sense of this thing, none of it actually gets to the heart of the original image in which the avatar was made from in the first place </3
